Fallout Failing to Start

Just finished re-installing Fallout 4 after having not played for a few months, haven't done anything to it yet.  No mods, haven't prepped it for mods, etc.   I double click the desktop icon, I get the main menu that says "PLAY", "OPTIONS", "SUPPORT", "EDIT".  I click play, and the menu closes while the "preparing to launch Fallout 4" notification pops up.  Then the notification vanishes........and the menu reappears.  No game start-up, just back to the start-up menu.  Rinse and repeat.  What the heck is happening?
