Corrupted Saves

   Hello people. I have a very bad problem that no matter how much I try ( and I have been trying to find out whats causing it for a week now ) I can't solve it on my own. I am not very good at troubleshooting problems so I am asking for some help. 

 

   So the problem. Something is corrupting my save games. I can't find the mod responsible for this. Recently I have updated all the mods I am using to the newest versions. I have started multiple new games and the problem persists. I am playing on a heavily modded game. I try my best to keep my load order safe from conflicting mods. The problem started after I updated every mod. SKSE is also updated, so is FNIS and I get no errors from it and the consistency check is fine.

I am using LOOT, I am not an expert but good enough with TES5 Edit. So I have cleaned what needed cleaning.

I'm not very good with Wrye Bash but at least I know how to make the Bashed Patch properly.

 

   Recently I found a problem with Creature Framework and I made a post about it in its support topic. Basically every time I used the re-register all mods or the reset cloak function ( this was in order to fix a problem with their private parts missing ) the game will get corrupted at that point. I can keep playing but I can't load any of the saves after that. Even when opening the saves with the Save Game Cleaner, it was crushing that program. The mod author said it was a bad problem but he doubted that it was caused by Creature Framework.

 

   I also had the mod A forsworn story installed but after I got to some buggy quests I uninstalled it and the problem continued so I thought maybe that was the source so I started a new game again. CF works ok for now, but the corrupting started again. Now I have my doubts with the Autosave manager mod.

Usually when I save through the console the save is ok ( rarely its not ) but the saves from the mod are almost all corrupted. 

 

   Now the the bit where I am absolutely bad at is the papyrus log. I have the log reader thingy I open it up but I have no idea what I'm seeing.

There seem to be a lot of lines with warnings and errors but I can't figure out what is causing it.

Out of curiosity like. Can you go to console on load screen and type "load <whatever your first saved file name is>", (i.e. in your case at the alternate start prison). If that loads, try and load using the menu, (without staring the game again), the most recent save.

Yes I can load save games that are not corrupted. I had that problem before where I couldn't load save games that are made in places with to many NPCs, so what I used to do was make a save in a place with no NPCs usually one of the homes and it would load perfectly, then I will load any other save without CTD. This time I can't load those saves at all. Any way I try.

It's just that the Skyrim engine is a big pile of shit and sometimes loading a save which actually can be loaded and initialized - i.e.. your start save - can sometimes, (actually 90% I think is the official EU sponsored figure), allow you to load a supposedly corrupted save.

it could just be that you have too many heavy scripted mods running i had a problem recently like yours where i could play fine but eventually when i tried loading a recent save i made the day before i would check my papyrus log and see nothing but spam from mod in this case Devious devices so i removed all the DD mods and some other scripted ones and started over and my saves load without any problems now

 

so from my understanding  dd did not cause the issue it just seems to be like other people have said the skyrim engine just can't handle too many scripted mods there could

be other problems as well with other mods you are using but too many scripted mods is most likely one of the issues you are having hope that helps

I am using NMM. Planing to switch to MO once I get a new rig and have to reinstall Skyrim.

And no, I have not installed or uninstalled anything.

 

For example I was atm I am doing the Thieves Guild missions. I am at the point where u get to the flagon for the first time. Autosave manager made save there that was fine, after that I talked to brynjolf got the quest to extort the 3 npcs. Went to bee and barb talked to the aragonian. Shortly after the game crashed. When I tried to continue, I got CTD on load. There were 3 saves since I was at the flagon, all of them couldn't load. So I loaded the one in the flagon and did everything again this time it was fine. Then save started corrupting again when i was in the Goldenglow estate. Same thing. It's fine til some point then it gets corrupted. So I need to find at which point is fine and do everything again from that point, hoping its not gonna get corrupted again.

I will try removing all DD and DD related mods and try to see if that will help, since im not really using those.

also as spoonsinger mentioned before Mod Organiser is a much better tool in my Imo the nmm i would never go back to nmm now but i recommend a clean install of skyrim if you do that there is a step guide on how to do it properly here http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Skyrim_Installationfollow the guide and make sure to delete every trace of skyrim not just unistal there are some files you will have to hunt down but you should find everything in the guide

Yes I know MO is a lot better. I am using it for Fallout NV and it's on a whole different level than NMM. But I don't wanna do a reinstall of Skyrim til I get a new PC since it's really time consuming. 

 

About the problem. I have been playing for an hour now, no problems so far. Game runs a lot smother without those mods. I have better FPS and the memory usage is down by 600mb. I feel like something is missing without DD but I guess I will get used to it. Gonna play few more hours and see if the problem was caused just by the number of mods with scripts. Although I do suspect it had something to do with Cursed Loot mod.

 

I forgot to mention in the original post, but usually ( if not always I haven't actually tested this ) when the game gets corrupted during gameplay there are few.. symptoms. For example:

      - If I get my character to sleep, after waking up the screen is black. The HUD is there and I can move the camera ( I notice this since things come up on the HUD when I point at them ) and the game will eventually crash.

      - If I hire a carriage to travel somewhere, when I climb in back nothing happens. The char just sits there, I can get off and back on again, chose another place to go or the same one and nothing will work.

      - No menu pop ups. Like follower wheel or menu and things like that never show up.

 

This is what I found out so far. And I have a feeling it is caused by a specific mod rather than the amount of scripts. So if everything goes fine and game doesn't get corrupted for few more hours, I will post all the mods I uninstalled. Gonna try to install them one by one and see if I can find the bad one.

Do any earlier saves work from that game work? If so it might be a corrupted save issue. Check for any autosaves if you havnt manually saved within 10 or so turns.

I have been playing for few hours now and the problem is gone. Uninstalling those mods helped solve the issue. I will try to find out if any specific mod was at fault or not by installing and trying them out one by one. It will take some time tho. Not sure if I should mark it as solved or not before I finish going through the mods.
