What's the current most recommended body/hair/overall character appearance mods?

There is too many to answer that. Most popular would be CBBE, CHSBHC and UNP I guess.

I like my own one but that is selfexplanatory.

The most popular is CBBE without a doubt, because it was one of the first and because since v.3 that body has more variety.

CBBE has the most support and a wide variety of options.

 

CHSBHC also has quite a bit of support and has jiggle physics. I believe the breasts get bigger than CBBE does as well.

 

I haven't seen much of UNP, but it's getting pretty popular despite not having much in the way of size difference on the slide bar.

I like CBBE so far, how about hair mods/face textures (unless CBBE is using its own)

I use CBBE body. There is another body I like better but there are no clothes option for it.
