Creation Kit ever actually work?

Finally forced myself to download the Creation kit cause I need to edit some mods for myself but almost every single fucking time I try to load a mod the fucking Creation kit crashes almost every fucking time part-way through loading Skyrim.esm. I need to edit (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=112439946) because the mod tagged (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Nilsine_Shatter-Shield) as essential when she is an optional kill for the Dark Brotherhood quest (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Mourning_Never_Comes). I got the creation Kit to load the mod one single time ever and managed to edit Nilsile and then never again. The way the mod currently was I had to turn it off to kill Nilsine before turning it back on and I think thats what screwed up my last character I had to delete. (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Gaius_Maro) for the Dark Brotherhood quest ( http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Breaching_Security) somehow became essential and could never remove the essential tag but according to the mod he's still tagged as just protected. For some reason (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Dragonborn:Ebony_Warrior) for the quest (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Dragonborn:The_Ebony_Warrior) was tagged as essential but the Creation Kit refuses to load the mod so I can't tell if it was just a bug or part of the mod.

I installed it through Steam so its installed to the Steam folder. Creation Kit opens fine. I click on the folder at the top to load then I set Skyrim.esm, Update.esm, Dragonborn.esm and the mod (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=197663703) as active. The Creation Kit gets to 78% of loading Skyrim.esm and I get a window titled Assertion in the window it says Assert

File: C:\_Skyrim/Code\TESV\TES Shared\misc\BGSLocalizedString.cpp

Line:2871

LOCALIZATION: Error Opening or reading Strings file.

Whether I click Abort, Retry or Ignore it brings up a new window Warning

MASTERFILE: LOCALIZATION: Zero entries or empty block size read from strings file STRINGS/Dragonborn_ENGLISH.STRINGS. Strings will be missing.

"Yes to all" will disable all Warnings for this context. And clicking yes, no and Yes to all will give me aa Creation Kit has stopped working window.

Easy fix :)

In SkyrimEditor.ini (Skyrim folder) under [General] set bAllowMultipleMasterLoads=1, if its not listed just add the line.

As well make sure that "Dragonborn.bsa" is added to the entries with the line "SResourceArchiveList2"

The line should read something like:

"SResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Update,bsa, Dawnguard.bsa, HearthFires.bsa, Dragonborn.bsa" (without quotes of course).

You only need to add HearthFire.BSA and Dragonborn.BSA if you own them.

Got some more errors but it did load finally. Far as I can tell The Ebony Warrior is/was only tagged as protected but on my last character after almost 15 minutes of fighting he went down on one knee, my summons stopped attacking him, I took one whack at him and he stood back up with full health. I'm wondering if turning the mods off to kill Nilsine then back on caused those NPC's I mentioned to become permanently essential. I want to keep the mods on cause I prefer the NPC's in towns to not die during a dragon attack or vampire raid since a few are needed for some quests but i don't want to get 69 hours into a game and find out the NPC's are stuck as essential when they have to killed for a quest.

  • 3 months later...

i know this may seem out of place but....

I have skyrim installed to a different directory other than steam.  I have a separate drive just for my games and steam is not installed on that drive.  Will me moving the creation kit to that skyrim folder mess up the working game I hav enow with my mods and everything?  Im EXTREMELY hesitant to mess up my install for the 5th time.
