Issue where weapons cannot be modified even with prerequisite requirements such as items or specific perk level.

As the title says, I'm having an issue to where I can't upgrade weapons such as receivers but yet materials may work. I'm unsure what possible issues I might be having. Here is my load order. Hopefully someone can shed some light on what could possibly be an issue? Just hoping to get a fresh perspective. Any help is appreciated.

I have one request first:

move the extremely long list of mods to a spoiler

Then everything reads much easier


Now to your problem or problems... You have installed 200 (?) mods and now you notice "out of nowhere" - that you can't upgrade weapons??


Did you simply install this huge list - all 200 of them in one go and then only start with one game - or was the testing of newly installed mods limited to that - just getting out of the starting vault?


At least half of all mods mean nothing to me and my own mod list has around 300 or even more... but that's not the point.


1) when I install a weapon mod (or armor mod) - then I read the mod description very carefully - because quite a few have the requirement for a keyword system... although with a mod manager like Vortex is already communicated during installation - that something important (a MASTER) is missing

It may sound like a no-brainer - but that's exactly what I've had problems with more than once


2) In order to upgrade weapons such as armor, you need not only the main perks (weapons or armor) but also secondary perks such as science (or others for exotic things) - but this is displayed when using the respective workbenches

So if level 3 is required for weaponry for the first upgrade level - it is actually not possible for a beginner character to carry out a test.

I created a separate character for things like this - which is leveled up using command line commands... yes, that's "cheating" - but just for the test


3) I see you have SS2 installed. I deliberately stayed away from it - because you can also be faced with the problem that you have the means for a weapon or armor upgrade - but the settlement itself may not have the level for it. (but this is pure speculation)


4) You can't even upgrade a simple "10mm pistol" or an "improv pistol" - a single point in weapon knowledge is enough for that??

1) i've been doing batch testing to see what could be causing said issue. I've been modding for awhile and this list has typically just grown over time. I just now noticed the issue since the main benches I use worked but not others I. The game. I haven't seen anything that typically calls for keywords or any missing masters. I plan on going through regardless to look them over again. 

 

2)I do the same thing about leveling up to test but the issue I was seeing was that even with the prerequisite skill and components required, it's acting as if there is some hidden requirement missing. I was mostly posting to get a second set of eyes on it to raise possible mods that could possibly be a culprit. It isnt a list I tossed together in one go. Essentially from what I've seen, parts of the weapon relating to actual upgrades such as receiver and barrel etcs

However material upgrades such as paint and such work fine. Armor editing works fine as well. 

 

3) The point you raise about Sim Settlements is interesting however I tested a workbench out in the world such as the one in the Diamond City market and it suffers the same issue. I mostly relegated working on stuff to Home Plate which everything functions so I didn't notice anything at the time. Does SS2 typically cause workbench related bugs?

I have a question for "Lord ChiruChiru", I purchased the cc... DLC content a long time ago, I currently have a bunch of BSA's in my "Data" folder for those cc... DLC content downloads. However, I don't have ANY .esm's or .esl's to make 'em work. I see by your posted load order, you DO have all of the needed .esm's and .esl's. I can't seem to get mine to work in game either.

 

How did you get 'em downloaded and where from?

It appears ro be limited to firearms with even modded melee weapons upgrading correctly. It extends to vanilla firearms I believe.

After loading a new game and console commanding to the qasmoke room, I spawned a 10mm from the vanilla and a shotgun from a mod. I tested both at the workbench but in there, it's working just fine for both. It seems to be just on main save. In a new save it's just fine.  It's with the exact same load order that's having I'm having issues with just a new game.

Well I figured it out. It was some sort of bug where having the exact amount of a component the game registers it as not having enough of it so you have to have a few more of a component

yes - these are games from "Bugdesta" - great that you found out


It's even possible that I encountered this "error" - so I thought I didn't have enough components - even though they should actually be sufficient


But since I usually play as a "collector" - I usually have more than enough materials in stock - so I didn't pay much attention to this fact
