Racemenu, SMP Hair, Eyes, and General Character Creation Issue

Randomly, I have come across a major issue with character creation. It all started when one of my characters started crashing from something. That something I believe was swapping races and using a custom race for the Children of Lilith Mod. I swapped from a Dunmer to a Succubus from the Succubus Race - with horns and SMP tail mod. From there, it crashed, and as I was trying to boot up the character again the next day, my game kept crashing on load. It seemed like only that character was crashing as well. Looking at the crash log at this point, I was guessed my character was the issue, specifically some SMP stuff, which I figured from looking at my Crash Log and googling. Loading old saves did not work and the character as a whole was broken. I loaded some random test character and they were fine. They had vanilla hair by default but I even switched to SMP hair, which worked fine. So, I decided to update my Faster HDT-SMP to the latest version from 1.49 to 2.0.5 as well as getting SMP-NPC Crash. With this update, I somehow was able to actually get back in game with the original character. However, not everything was working properly. The first thing that I saw that was broken was the hair. The physics just did not work and for some reason my character's eyes lost their texture. I tried remedying this by doing showracemenu but it did not work. I did a bunch of testing, even making a new preset from scratch )thinking my old preset might've been corrupted or smth) to no avail. I will post pictures of what that looks like. But basically, for my tests I tried creating a new racemenu preset using eyes of beauty and smp hair on a new saved game, the eyes and hair work properly (though the hair physics are really slow), and I save the game. Loading that game was fine. However, once I tried loading the saved preset from racemenu again, I get the blue hair and broken physics. I am not sure what causes this, especially the eyes because I have added no new mods that alters the eyes. I'm not sure what causes this. Thanks to anyone who can help.  I'll be putting in the images I mentioned, my load order, and  the Crash Log file I got when my game crashed on loading my character (pre-FSMP update). 

Also side note, I did install High-poly head mid playthrough and some other mods, but those did not affect anything. Also, looking at the two screenshots, it seems that after doing showracemenu, my character got a neck seam which is weird.

So if understood you correctly, you had a crash related to SMP. Fixed it by changing SMP version and installing an SMP related crash fix, but that removed hair physics and made your characters eyelashes and eyes blue? That tells me the crash fix was more like a workaround that just disables the thing causing the crash, it didn't actually fix the crash. As for the blue eyes, that's hopefully from something else, otherwise one of the mods you installed contains dirty edits.

 

Anyhow, focusing on the eyes, as like I said the hair not working is probably intentional:

1. Since you already have a racemenu preset of the character with missing eyelashes and eyes you don't need to create one.
2. Open the json racemenu preset in notepad.
3. Create a list of all textures that look related to eyes.
4. Make sure all these textures exist in your current setup.
   1. Query your mod manager for each file, make sure the path is correct.
   2. Check the source mod of each file, make sure its the mod you expect it to be. i.e. make sure it is Eyes of Beauty, not the succubus race etc.

If everything so far looks fine:

1. Locate another eye texture set (based on the textures you found in the section above) that you know works.
2. Get some (Edit: one is enough, don't need all) DDS editing tools:
   1. texconv from Microsoft.
   2. Paint.Net
   3. Photoshop
3. Open/convert the broken and working textures and compare them.
4. Normalize the files such that the broken files look the same as the working ones in all aspects: compression format, size etc. The Microsoft DDS tools come with texdiag which can dump all related info from the dds files directly. This is my prefered method/tool set.

 

Edit: Oh and it may be useful to know that eyelashes are in the same file as the eyeballs themselves, so you're most likely only looking for one broken/missing texture file. The highpoly face mod may have changed this however.

Thank  you for the reply. I had actually did some more testing after and downgraded my FSMP back to my original version. With a bunch more experimenting I think I narrowed the problem somewhat. So downgrading FSMP, I do still crash immediately trying to load my main character. It even crashed another character that had a similar preset. However, I created a new game and I was able to load in. The eyes were completely fine and even the hair seemed completely fine. I created a new preset using some random Eyes of Beauty eye (not the main character's one) and some random KS SMP hair (much shorter than the main character's hair -- maybe relevant later). This preset I was able to save, exit racemenu, and move around. I was able to open racemenu again as well. This seemed like it was in working order. I tried opening racemenu on another new game, try loading this preset, and it was working fine. However, when I try loading in the main character's preset, or even a variation I made from scratch again, they crashed when I tried loading the preset. After this, I went to a new game, loaded the working preset, and chose the same eyes as the main character. Doing all the saving and loading, it was working. Now when I changed the hairstyle to the main character's hairstyle, I actually did not immediately crash at first. I saved my character's look and moved around, looks like physics worked when I moved around. However, once I tried opening racemenu again, the game crashed. This was weird for me because the other hairs I used did not use this. My best guess here is related to the fact that my main character's hair that I use is one of the longest and (I believe) has the most different parts (it's called steammist). I'm not sure if it is the case but with all this experimenting, it leads me to believe that the high physics hair was the cause of the issue.

Btw I looked at the .jslot files of the presets and everything looked fine as far as I'm aware. I looked and compared between files and looked to see if all the right files were in the right places, and it seemed to be the case. I use MO2 as well if that matters. After downgrading FSMP, I did not get any blue eyes as I did in the previous screenshots I sent.

EDIT: Ok so I did my testing on Dunmer this whole time (same race as my main character). When I use that specific hair on other races, (I tried both Bosmer and Nord) it worked fine. So ig that narrows it even more.
