NV where to start

So i'm about to finally break the seal on my copy of NV.

 

Normaly I am not this out of touch with a game that I dont know what mods are what but I know nothing of NV or even modding it for that matter so where to start.

 

What mods to pick up and modding tools should i grab.

 

I'm currently using blender 2.49b

The top 100 on the nexus is always a good starting point.

Can't help on modding tool but here's what I consider essential basic mods.

 

FOMM - Fallout Mod Manager. For installing mods.

Wrye Flash - For the bashed patch and compatibility fixes

NVSE - New Vegas Script Extender.

FNVEdit - It's TES4Edit for New Vegas.

BOSS - Better Oblivion Sorting Software.

CASM:NV - Cipscis' Automatic Save Manager: New Vegas. Requires NVSE. Avoids having to use the auto-save and quicksave which can caused a corrupt save file.

 

You might also want to check out:

DarnUI - Better menu font and layout.

NVCE - New Vegas Character Expansions. Fixes up NPC faces and bodies.

Mod Configuration Menu - Puts a new button in the pause menu where you can put in mod configuration options, instead of having to place an item in the player inventory to change options.

 

Are you planning to run a mostly vanilla game first or you looking to go the whole hog with mods?

And GECK, of course. The latest version from the Beth webpage.

I would suggest to go through the game with just Texture mods installed, play vanilla once then decide what you want to upgrade about the game.

Get dimon's Type3 body and Breeze male body.

 

as for Modding Tools

Nifskope is needed, as usual

GECK is a must

FNVedit is also suggested since it holds some helpful functions that GECK doesn't have.

This is basiclly all you would need I think.

I would also suggest photo-shop or GIMP with the DDS plugin's if you plan on editing the textures of anything in the game, makes it a world easier.

i would also advise everyone to get the unofficial patch from: http://www.ravenmodding.terminal47.net/

nexus being the dicks they are won't let the people who did more patch work upload it as an update on nexus because they can't get "permission" from the original modder.

So are there any other resources out there for armors/clothes to download? Took a look over at the nexus and I wasn't really impressed with what they had on offer. Of course coming off Oblivion it is a huge step down content wise but I figured there would be more diverse downloads available. Any hidden gems out there that people would suggest?

well if you are willing to join a chinese site 3dm has the cwdolls clothing.

tones of stuff converted from oblivion to fallout, but it can cause some wonky things.
