I can't show this with screenshots so you'll have to take my word for it. So I purposefully avoided shadowcasting lights because I know there's a limit on them and that the game starts flickering like NES when its sprite limit is exceeded. I know I use ELFX which brings this goddamn engine to its knees. Maybe I placed too many meshes, because I use a lot of static assets to bulk up the interior. This wouldn't be a problem if you could pre-bake lighting like you could in Quake from 1996.

 

To see my problem for yourself punch "coc 00FreezehomeBasementHouse" in the console or take a short stroll from Whiterun Stables. You'll find a destroyed house southwards of the stables near the road.

 

I tried lowering the light amount but that didn't do anything. Is there a mod that removes this honestly arbitrary engine limitation? What should I do?

The engine limit is 4 shadow casting light sources per cell and 4 light sources can cast light onto a mesh. You can read more here:

I know. As I said I purposefully avoided shadowcasting lights. I've used pure static omnidirectional ones which you can see if you open the map up in Creation Kit. And the game still flickers.
