Troubleshooting

Recommended Posts

Just an area to help troubleshoot instead of using CE or TB's forum threads. If it results in issues w/ CE or TB, it can then be brought up there. Since Bannerlord is early access, things change.

Basic troubleshooting for "Out of Gameplay" issues:

  • If your game does not start up without any mods (Only Native, SandBox Core, Custom Battle, Sandbox, StoryMode)
    • Check to make sure your Bannerlord core files are not blocked. This is especially true if your steam folder is in "Program Files"
    • Verify Integrity of game files (In Steam, Right-click Bannerlord and go to properties. Local Files -> Verify integrity of game files (This will take some time). If corrupt files are detected, it will automatically download and will then take more time
  • Check to make sure the mod you are using is for your version of Bannerlord.
    • Example: CE 1027 has different files for Bannerlord 1.5.8 and 1.5.9. CE1025 is for 1.5.6. CE1026 for 1.5.7. Using CE1027 for 1.5.6 may crash the game.
  • Seem stuck on a "loading page"? It's probably a mod doing stuff in the background and will take time.
    • Example: "Adonnays Troop Changer" runs a script to pull ATC.config files from all "active' mods and then calculates values based on other mods ATC.config files for troop spawns.
  • Disable or enable mods separately. Take the time to figure out if it is a specific mod that is crashing the game.

Troubleshooting for "In-Game" crashes:

  • Reload a previous save to see if you encounter the same crash (at least a day before)
    • If you did the "same steps" in both cases, try something new. (Example: If both crashed while you were going to Lageta, try the opposite direction to Omor.)

Here's a snippet from the creator of Harmony, Butterlib, MCM on Nexus regarding Launcher warnings:

Spoiler

The CAUTION screen that you get when you launch the game with mods should be ignored! It gives misleading info!

The game developers assume that we target specific dependency versions in our mods (like, we require Harmony 2.0.2 SPECIFICALLY), but in reality, the standard practice is to declare the minimum supported dependency version for a mod (like, we require Harmony 2.0.2 or NEWER).
Because the game developers do not follow this practice, you get this CAUTION screen that gives you misleading information.
Do not follow it's recommendation and do not downgrade dependency versions!

Places on your harddrive where Bannerlord has files:

Windows:

  1. Documents\Mount And Blade II Bannerlord\
    1. Configs - base game and mods put their config files here to allow for users to customize without being "in-game".
    2. Game Saves - your save game files
  2. Rootdrive\ProgramData\Mount and Blade II Bannerlord
    1. logs - Log files relating to crashes.
    2. Shaders - Direct3D files
  3. SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Mount & Blade II Bannerlord
    1. To find this: In Steam, Right-click Bannerlord and go to Properties -> Local Files -> Browse...
    2. This is where core game files and mods are
