CTDs When Bringing Up Perk Menu

Recommended Posts

It seems no matter what, I'll always end up getting a game that CTDs when I bring up the perk menu that I inevitably have to fix. I even tried making sure a save successfully brings up the perk menu, going through a new game, and bringing up the perk menu as soon as I get the PipBoy. It still crashes.

I know fixing it the old-fashioned way will bork my mods and my game, so I'm hoping for some insight into what the cause could be, or if there may be an alternate solution.

this was solved in this topic I believe:

Make sure you get ALL the buffout requirements, INCLUDING BOTH 32, and 64 bit, as described below in a post by ulfberth:

Buffout4 installation:

- xSE PluginPreloader F4 (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/33946)

- Buffout4 - Address Library for F4SE Plugins (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/47327)

- TBB (on the Buffout4 download page)

install the PreLoader manually and change it's loading mechanic by editing xSE PluginPreloader.xml and then changing LoadMethodto OnThreadAttach.

install TBB manually.

install Buffout4 and the Address Library via mod manager.

if this still doesn't help, then you need to install/repair the MS VC++ runtimes in 32bit AND 64bit (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads) and in this order.

this does work as said. do direct x first install xSE MANUALLY!!! and install the TBB redistribute from buffout 4 file section MANUALLY!!! and it fixes not just the perk screen ctd by also fixed this random, and i mean absolutely random freeze, the freeze lasted maybe 40seconds sometimes. is completely gone. and first starting freeze while aff does its check is gone too....was just something that started when i started using the latest fo4 and updated all the mods im using.
