Game designer Peter Molyneux's new development studio 22cans has announced its next project, an "innovative reinvention" of groundbreaking god game Populous, currently named Project Godus. 22cans has turned to Kickstarter to crowd-fund the game, seeking £450,000.

"Godus blends the power, growth and scope of Populous with the detailed construction and multiplayer excitement of Dungeon Keeper and the intuitive interface and technical innovation of Black & White," reads the Kickstarter project description. "The original Populous hailed from the 8-bit era but Godus will use the most modern technology the world has to offer."

22cans promises a "living world, unique and detailed" that can be influenced by players' actions, both good and evil. Players can engage in multiplayer battles between other players' gods and their respective worshippers.

Peter Molyneux says in pitch video that 22cans wants to go "back to those glory days of [Populous developer] Bullfrog, back to when we focused ultimately on the gameplay" in creating Godus.

Godus is bound for unspecified PC and mobile devices, with the possibility of additional platforms.

22cans estimates that the game will take seven to nine months to complete, with an expected September 2013 release date. But, 22cans says, "if we exceed the amount of funding we're asking for, we'll use the extra to enhance the game further and support additional platforms which will add a little more time to the development schedule."

Pledge levels on the Kickstarter range from £5, which includes access to the backer-exclusive forums, to £5,000, which includes a trip to E3 2013 and a chance to be interviewed by Peter Molyneux on television. A £15 pledge nets one downloadable copy of Godus, plus access to the beta.

EA is planning to release a new Populous title along with games from Insomniac and Respawn Entrainment in financial year 2013, which spans April 1 2013 to the March 31 2014.

That's according to a supposed EA Partners Wiki page uncovered by a NeoGAF reader.

Although the page is protected with a password, the internet sleuth claims to have found references to The Secret World; Overstrike; Populous; Outernauts and Respawn.

The Secret World, the MMO developed by Funcom, and Overstrike, Insomniac's shooter, are somewhat known quantities. EA has previously indicated that both are scheduled for release sometime between April and March.

Hint :

peter said to himself " The day that he announced this project " this game was supposed to be 2012 , but due the fact to EA marketing bullfrog pushed back 2013 , as the game progresses " the new engine " that was supposedly to be superior then Black and white used to have is going to be a lot different, the gods on populous now have new worshiping system where more prayers he got more perks and stronger he gets that's a rough idea that peter had, but this game is going to take while before it sees light of day.

'Populous' is obviously a reference to the classic Peter Molenyuex created, Bullfrog developed god sim series. Considering EA has returned to the Syndicate franchise, a new Populous isn't entirely out of the realm of possibility.

The second title, 'Outernauts', has been traced back to Insomniac Games through a domain registration. The studio signed a publishing deal with EAP in 2010, ending a lengthy period of developing Sony exclusives to work on Overstrike, a mulitplatform shooter.

Obviously, 'Respawn' is the title being put together by ex-Infinity War bosses Jason West and Vince Zampella.

Although it's difficult to verify whether this page is legitimate or not the NeoGAF poster notes it was created by 'pmarineau', which could be EA's director or marketing Phil Marineau.
