I'm going to provide a basic assessment on the state of RimWorld from my limited view (I probably have 40 hours in game... and maybe 50-60 reading mod descriptions and the forums. Alot of stuff sticks.. some of it doesn't. I don't mind, welcome and invite rational thought or hypotheticals.) FIRST: If you believe in the stork delievering babies then yes, much of the topics might be over ones head pertaining to RJW and humanity in general. We have no idea how mentally developed you are, what is the intention of your post and if you are making a post for the intention of "trolling"/shock/stupidity or genuine don't know about the mechanics of the game or what functions RJW do. PREAMBLE: I personally rather have a cleaner approach and breakdown or escallation of how mods and topics are characterized. But this is Lovers Lab and we are bound to whatever whims/ideas of others exist. Be thankful this isn't like typing in a shock site with something that justin whang would make a video about.. (certain users/modders have there view on what is "okay" regarding what words are words for titles and .gifs are going to be .gifs.) Past and Present RimWorld: Old timers and devs who know already know. Know? If I am incorrect about certain aspects or details please correct me. I'm attempting to illuminate to people some of the difficulties we have faced or face? Maybe correct me? or give me a "yeah, not quite.. this happened or you mis-read this or this is portion is a better view." A Big Fucking Rant: Maybe? I'll be honest with my current endeavour I'm kinda tired.. or bored.. or frustrated.. things are very "terse" and there is little to on. People make mistakes from two reasons.. The BASICS MODDING - UNTOLD: I must say, I have seem too many mods that have done a utterly hack/shit job of being updated or the logic / implementation is completely fucked. There are great instances where the great modders author's did an excellent implementation and covered all they bases, while allowing for a smooth transition to upgrade versions then walked away because of power plays of "conform to us" / shitty users / <explicative deleted> mods... (aka I don't need this, I did this for fun this isn't a paid job, I don't have any agenda, "fuck your coding, fuck your ideas, fuck your group, fuck your bully mafia garbage, and fuck you. FUCK THIS SHIT I'M OUT!") Mlie and Oglis are a credit to the community but they only have so much time per day. I wish to abstain from disparaging the mod authors because they had no way of knowing how the often or when updates would roll out... (here is my attempt at making excuses for mod authors. Again I am very familar with burn out and bitching users.) I wish someone like Internet Historian would do a video on how RimWorld started to tear itself apart. So like I mentioned many of the modders shook their heads, got yelled by users and other mod makers for breaking things. There are STILL THINGS A BIT BROKEN.. INSIDE OF VANILLA. for one? The Memory Cache.. and garbage collection. I think this is a Harmony thing. As every Unity game with tons of assets has this problem. BattleTech (RogueWarrior pack), and most any other Unity game that uses Harmony for mods. Here is a peek at the memory state as we are in pre-loading... Now... I might not be very "smart", a proper "developer", a "modder" but uh.... WinAmp, Foobar, VLC with hundreds of hours of porn. music. DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THIS!!! RITUALS, PERFORMANCES and MODDERS WITHIN: I know nothing.. Everything I learned was from a dictionary and the encylopedia britanica. I've seen open source projects like Toad purchased by Oracle, I've seen Nagios take their open source out of public domain for their own private shit, I've seen corpos from Apple integrate tech from CarrierIQ with the group from QuatroWireless to "deliver targeted Ads" via iAd(aka spy)... I've seen workplace groups and cliques. they exist in the modding community. and a community unaware of these types are placed in danger and have a harder time of everything. The Krews I don't know what to call these modders except "conform" (aka "is it compatible")! The Entire CE compatible are guilty of this shit. It's not bad... but it makes the entry barrier for someone wanting to get into modding pull their hair out because there is only one way.. their way. All the end-users sound like brainwashed baptists that ate their first bible in special ed "do you believe?" Multiplayer modders - Shrug, are still sticking together but without good smart netcode there is only so much they can do. Desyncs are common. Multiplayer SERVERs - okay, this ALWAYS turns into the fuck shit that was Fallout Online.. No. i mean Fallout 2 extended community enhanced multiplayer server. FO not FO76... In short a bunch of RU/CCP/JP/EU/US cock goblins looking for worship, infighting and bullshit. In short they make something like goon (Something Awful SS13) station look tame, stealing code running exploits, etc,etc.. power grubbers These modders have some proficency... they write some code that works well in ensuring compatability but over time and releases they turn into dictator fuckwits. "We are cutting your salary for our own your own good!!!! Have you seen our new community launcher? We swear not to farm bit coin".. The Author of DocShitty is DocShitty doing that, In fact, some of new Gloomy, Vee Retexture, Rimfeller all get errors because of the Scrubs mod DocShitty has put together.. THAT is not enough however. DocShitty aspires for much higher things. Much like the piece of shit LadyAlekto on Nexus made an installer for the community mods for Battletech.. The community assets are free and available via github. However if you have the Gog version or linux version.. The installer they provides does not work. People HAVE made packs to bypass LadyAlekto bullshit you CAN find them. It's not RogueTech to be clear but honestly there is nothing new a few random fixes and some bullshit. Honestly, who the fuck knows in LadyAlekto case.. Probably was one of the first seeders of the torrent, went on to become the forum goto person for all assets and how to's. You can see the way it spread in the Paradox Entertainment forums, got enough momemtum, isolated one modder at a time on Nexus and said join us "it's safer here.." SausageJuiceWorld The concern should be how DocShitty and Russian Paladin are IN FACT rimming each other in the discussion thread of RimPy. "your the best.." "teehee, no you" "teehee no you".. RimPy is great.. however they can't figure out how to monitize it.. Combine it with the way DocShitty mods will "validate" (aka break.. it just breaks mods) compatablities it will get to the point where they will have a approved mods list. And it will not follow a sane structure/standard by RimThreaded or RWoM.. I'll just give an example of a problem set I encountered recently building the RJW MEGA GIGA mod load order list. HLX Wasteland (new biome/map) is required to be AFTER (Vanilla fishing animal/cooking/item) (well that makes sense. because of the water quality)... Next is Wasteland Fauna that needs to be under Alpha animals? or... I can understand if QEE/Polaris Bloc/Altered Carbon needs the Universal Fermenter (handling brewing/cooking but also liquid time processing framework Vats/Tanks etc) .. but it doesn't.. Why does EPOE need the Universal Fermenter? Hold on, that's workbench bill and bionics/medical. *Sigh* Okay another exception. It REALLY doesn't help when the mod description just has some general discussion then omits that it does something for bills, or behavior ("WTF, man these are medicines.. why are you messing with ARGHH!!!") or has required libraries that causes you to have to re-sort a ton of mods. okay.. okay.. Well, I have to admit.. One thing is for DAMN certain. I am VERY VERY VERY HAPPY to have BetterLoading/All Your Base doing some really top notch work. Continuing, There are most that use to work.. someone made an attempt. and fucked up. Not just one or two but the biggest bundle of mods that seem to work There are a few, that were written well and the mod author needed to make a small tweak in the about.xml or manifest.xml. some they left malformed. invalid packageIds, versioning, didn't close brackets.. stuff even someone like me could fix on the fly. Even one or two that need a copy directly of 1.1 and renamed to 1.2 (that still work). You may find a mod that seems decent, read the comments and fine a compatible mods with a link to an older mod... that is REALLY fucked up bad having been "updated" from 1.0 to 1.1 and contains a 0harmony.dll You may think it's fine, that you won't activate the mod. No, it goes completely sideways. Yes, it's always been a thing to make a trash mod and put it up on the steamworkshop for the "memes" but to have actively worked on a decent mod then pull a "I don't give a fuck, I'll pretend it's fine" is a fucked up move. We already know about the modders that "I'm gonna take my ball home.. I don't wanna play with you because you won't let me win.." Point is some mods be it by ignorance or malice or laziness breaks everything. My goal is to compile/integrate/bundle as many mods as I can together for a proper list RJW pack for the community. My reasons are simple; too many things are forgotten/eaten by entropy or plain lost. + So we can get along. + So the community won't be so fractured. Because the truth is burn-out is real, boredom is real and dealing with the nuances and fuckery of I don't know which mod or your mod is problem is a fucking stale joke. If you can get a particular mod into the modlist working in the correct order as close as possible to the what we have? and matches this? Please by all means document any fixes or changes and let us know. I just want to put something together so we all have the same point of referrence as MY WAY of saying THANK YOU to the mod authors that are improving something that is really fun, pleasant and enjoyable. I don't want to bring up Continous Integration or push patches to a feature branch, where it gets merges with copy of mod and runs tests. If it works then the modder/maintainer has one less headache to consider. Additionally the users and other developers have less questions to ask. It also prevents miscommunication if a specific set of conditions are created and it can be replicated. I will provide a very fucked up and boring example; I am reminded of the hours and hours when working in I.T./corporate where receiving approval for a firewall rule change requires a 6 months waiting period, However the contract requires you to be finished in the next 2 weeks. So you have to CLI every package by hand and when it throws "missing dependency" you have to hunt those down, again, and again and again. and it didn't have a good resolution system, it would pull down packages that were older that had bugs.. worse was when they changed it to only pull newest and they fixed a bug that was a feature the previous package you pulled down depended on. Python Eggs? nah.. wget or curl if you were lucky. Potato Since we all have attention spans of gnats these days + it would be nice to have all the patches integrated or the very least formed in such a way that if someone wants and update or try to add something on + they may try the community experimental or + wait for a monthly or bi-monthly approved release. + It cuts down on updating the number of download pages, forum updates, bitbucket, github or steamworkshop updates. + Finally it helps preventing burning-out everyone or worse abandonment by the modder/developer. AFTER this.. Maybe I will attempt to fuck with CE... Maybe after CE I will attempt to fuck with multiplayer. I currently have 908 mods... of those 908... 740 are loaded and I have only 2 errors. AT THIS TIME, MY THE MACHINE HAS NOT CRASHED.. THERE HAS BEEN ZERO IN GAME TESTING.. IN FACT IS PROBABLY 100% UNPLAYABLE AT THIS CURRENT MEMORY LEVEL. This list needs to be screened and mod order approved ammended and discussed on discord. I'm not on discord, I pissed off discord staff.. aka the website/channel/service. I said that furries should be <expletive deleted> and Discord staff did not like that.. So until I get a burner phone with a new number for a new email address I can't go on discord. amen.
