Dayum! I had one of those, too. Wrote a D&D Dungeon Master assistant on it using the tables from the DM's Guide (all 1st Edition :classic_biggrin:). Maps, encounters, DM die rolls, all of it. Worked great :classic_biggrin:.

Especially when nobody wanted to DM a game.

lLater periods I remember spending an inordinate amount of time on Sierra's old point and click games.

Particularly this one. So you want to be a hero.

quest-for-glory-i-ign006jpg-444426.jpg

It had a sort of text thingy, where yer'd type in words to interact with the world and spend forever and a day trying to find the right bloody keyword that makes the object do the thing it's supposed to do. Thus, even as a mere tadpole that hadn't learnt to tie her shoelaces yet, let alone earned her hat, I remember abusing the hell out of this system typing various synonyms  of the word "Fuck", to try and abuse that poor young centaur girl at the market stall.

Not 100% certain. I do remember playing Pong when I was very small, but it might have been something like PAC-MAN or Space Invaders first. Whatever it was, it was likely played on one of these:

Possibly using one of these:

Still got ours tucked away somewhere...

Nice to see so many old timers that started off in the retro budget-grade home computer days:smile: Normally when a topic like this shows up on a forum I find myself surrounded by younger range millennials that got started in the 16bit era or later. So good to be around some fellow Gen Xers.

As for me it this little C64 game that got me started. I like to sneak that green sumo reference into my modding work when I can get away with it, heehee:

Honestly i have no idea which game it was because i was 4-5 at the time and it was on C64. The earliest game i remember was some WW1 flight sim that i was never able to identify, earliest i know was also Bruce Lee.

First full game that i owned was TOCA 2 for Playstation 1 that i got with console for free.

First one i bought was ofcourse the masterpiece of Final Fantasy 7, the game that started my fascination with jrpgs.

There were no video games when I was 4-5 yrs old. I still remember the first Atari games when they came out. Space Invaders, Missile Command and Pong in black and white. Later when I was around 10-12 I think, we started to play Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and Galaga in color when arcades became a thing- Whoo Hoo!

Oh, Dog! That was a stinker! Ironically I now wish Bugthesda would have their own "E.T."-type title to teach them to shape up by nearly ruining them.

Hell, not even just bugthesda, I reckon the entire industry these days could use the wake-up call. Given the constant bollocks Acti and EA pull, I'm honestly surprised it hasn't happened already tbh :3

My very first computer based game was basically Pong, bought at Radioshack. It was a hand-held controller that hooked up to the TV with a few Pong-like games. There was a master controller and a second unit for a second player and a gun for shooting a white block that wandered over the screen. Searching Google for images came up with TV Scoreboard.

Is it about

  1. the first game I played?
  2. ..I had a "copy" of?
  3. .. owned?
  4. .. or bought by my own money?

It would be 4 different answers in my case  :classic_blush:

  1. It should be some kind of sports game on Atari. My cousins had computers or game consoles, I couldn't afford one.
  2. should be an older text adventure... no graphics ... but something to learn english better and faster than in school
  3. difficult to remember the name... so many years ago.. It was gift. Fun fact: I had a game many years before I had a computer
  4. Probably Monkey Island, I guess. Fun fact: My certain other half started with that game, too.

Ooooh, we know them all :)

PS: If you ever visit Berlin - take your time to visit THE museum http://www.computerspielemuseum.de/1210_Home.htm

I've been there 2 or 3 years ago on a business trip and was angry that I had not enough time between work and their closing time :/
