XXX of the Commonwealth (Standalone Perk Magazines)

NOTICE: Keep the ESP near the bottom of your load order to avoid any conflicts or CTD's

The "No Perks" version has been deleted and is no longer supported. I made several mistakes with that mod

(it was a rushed job and was very inexperienced at modding)
I might try to make a new version with no perks in the future.

STANDALONE  XXX porno mags have arrived in the commonwealth. You can find (or buy) 72 issues (12 issues of each publication) that will give you the Lover's Embrace perk when discovering it. You can also purchase them from Arturo in Diamond City if you don't want to look for them.

      The Titles:
          Asstoundingly Awesome Tails
          Filth from the Vault
      Life & Lust
      Massachusetts Smut Journal
         Tales of a Junktown Whore

and
   Tits Today

If you don't want spoilers, don't look at the pictures!!

This mod is currently on hold by NM until I can get permission from the artists or proof that the art is free on forums. Please support the artists if you like the artwork. I'll have full promotion links on here and Nexus after they have cleared it. I'm not making any donation money from this mod.

The Lore: A Diamond City photographer and entrepreneur named "Dirty Mike" started an underground adult magazine business and placed a variety of free samples around the commonwealth for anyone to find. An undisclosed cut of his cap profits go to Piper as she lets him use her printing press to produce them.

How it should work: As long as Lover's Embrace isn't active in your pipboy, discovering a magazine and picking it up  in the world will instantly give you the Lover's Embrace perk...(Mass Smut Journal also gives you a level 4 medic perk, and copies of Junktown Whore will give you the Rank 4 Bloody Mess perk as well) I might add additional temporary perks to the others later.   If you don't want the perk at the time you find it... don't pick it up. If you have lover's embrace enabled when finding a magazine, I think you need to store the magazine on a rack and take it later to activate the perk. I have not thoroughly tested this mod yet so I am not 100% sure if each magazine will only give you the perk once and once only. It's possible if you store the magazine in a rack and pick it up later it will give you the perk again but I don't know. I'm going to tweak the script more if I can so they will work infinitely.

There are 2 copies of each magazine in the commonwealth, one somewhere in the world and one at Commonwealth Weaponry in Diamond City...so If you're trying to complete a collection and can't find it in the world... buy it! The vendor should also reset every 3 days so you can buy as many as you want.  If you don't need a magazine anymore you can sell it for 100 caps.

Some basic hints:
I did not intend to make the mags extremely difficult to find but there might be a few curveballs out there to keep things interesting...

Most of the time you will find them in cells near a bed or bathroom...basically places where you would find them in real life..for the most part.

You might find a few in main quest/side quest buildings, or a few settlements,  but a good amount are in locations off the beaten path and you'll just have to discover them for yourself. Even I don't remember all the locations I placed them in so I'll be finding some on my own as well.

Found "Astoundingly Awesome Tails #5" and picked it up:  It displays sideways.  It also displays sideways in the pipboy inventory.  If I click on it from the inventory for a closer look, its an instant CTD.

Giving rank four perks for free is a terrible idea.  Really, all I want is more porn in the world, not cheats.

If anyone else wants to have a look, the magazine in question is in:

Spoiler

The Gorski Cabin root cellar

Also, why Arturo?  I don't strongly care, but it seems like an odd choice.

I love treasure hunts, especially with the adult mags. I always use a mod called Malkavs Collection on Skyrim, which is brilliant.

I think you could improve your mod by making it more about the finding the mags, than getting the perks. Plus it'll mean you won't have problems with your mods perks causing game issues...

Possible improvements...

- No perks on magazines or anything on magazines, just a treasure hunt.

- Magazines have good loot with them, possibly keeping them in a custom container. I'm thinking pink urns or boxes...

- Magazine loot tables

- 200 caps in each container as well, like Malkavs collection. Good starter money for survival players...

- One of these stacks in each box.

- x20 aluminium ( everyone needs this )

- x5 fibre optics

- x20 oil ( always running out )

- x50 bone ( used for making oil, always running out )

- x50 acid ( handy ingredient )

- x5 radstag stew ( essential in survival )

- x10 copper

- x50 2mm ammo

- x50 5mm ammo

- x2 fusion cores

- x100 cryolator ammo ( can't buy these )

- x100 alien blaster ammo ( can't buy these )

- x5 refreshing beverage ( this is like gold when I play, it gets me out of a lot of trouble )

- Not a fan of Arturo selling actual magazines, it cheapens the treasure hunt. How about he sells treasure hunt maps, it doesn't matter about how crude they are.

- Markers nearby, to help with search location for hard to find magazines.

- Higher value, Jetpack only treasures. Could have magazine title of Jet Magazine for these...

More difficult to reach places, will give a better reward.

There are a load of unexplored areas in Fallout 4, that people don't usually go to. Like the secret area above Diamond City, very awkward to find and get to. The box would need to be seen from the road, or a marker.

The Gym, happy to find it. But only containing lead that I couldn't carry in survival, plus some buffout.

The Boyleston club, found it, then sighed and left.

Just some ideas...

If you don't like the ideas, then just ignore the post...

Still sounds way too cheat-y for my liking.

Moot point, given that every one of the magazines displays wrong, and causes a CTD when clicked.  I think that's the FAR more pressing issue than adding features.

The trouble I have with Magazine mods is that usually people assume that we have to have perks associated with them or extra treasures.

Not to mention its also why I typically don't download them at all in the first place, I just don't need any more power gains for my character, already powerful enough as it is.

Seems to me that is a moot point if the mod crashes games when the mags are looked at in pipboy though.

Honestly I have wanted more mags to just find as I travel in the game, that's reward enough on top of being able to display collections at home, there are not enough magazines as it is to decorate more than one or two safehouses in the commonwealth.

Update: I went to the place you mentioned and I got no ctd when picking it up. As far as I know the textures and file structure are set up correctly and it's the first time I'm hearing of this. I made no changes to any cells other than adding the magazines

CTD? I've tested the mod by picking up one and no ctd for me. As long as it's installed properly you should be fine. I'll go there and see what happens.  IDK why the magazines are showing up sideways.. I have them set up basically the same as the vanilla ones. The easiest way to make them straight is use just the right joystick. you just have to tilt the axis once or twice it takes 2 seconds once you get the hang of it. Yes it's annoying and I want to fix it but not sure how yet. Thanks for the feedback and I hope you don't have any more problems.

Why Arturo? Because the magazines are in the MISC tab and if you want to add items to a vendor they have be to scripted to sell the same categories as the vendor. Arturo and maybe one other were the only options. I originally wanted to use Polly because she only sells meat. Trashcan Carla was another thought.

The perks are only temporary ... you can turn them off with CC if you want.  You can buy them all at once and not have to worry about the perk at all

If enough people want it I'll make a no perks version

Nice ideas but I don't know about all that for now... I'm not trying to make them super valuable. It's more of a novelty mod. Who knows what I'll do with the mod once I get more feedback though.

I added them to a vendor to try and make everyone happy... there's people who might not want to go on a hunt for them

I'll make a treasure hunt only option how about that?

Why didn't you carry the lead with the buffout? I didn't pay much attention to the other loot in the cells I placed them in. Maybe ill make a harder to find version sometime.

I only play survival, in survival I can only carry a tiny amount beyond my guns, healing, food, ammo and increasing weight of my armour after each upgrade. Even adding pockets to my armour, adds weight.

On non survival, with my backpack mod. I can carry more than power armour, as well as being stronger without power armour. Power armour being a severe downgrade.

In standard survival though, Buffout and Radstag stew are not enough. You get used to picking up only what you need, getting killed with one or two hits if your enemies have combat rifles. Even with good armour... Normally, if I want lead. I buy it in batches, which weigh nothing.

I love survival, I thought I was getting overpowered. Then the increasing amount of powerful combat rifles on gunners, brought me back down to earth.

A treasure hunt only option sound good, thanks...  But resisting the urge to buy magazines off Arturo is not a problem, as I only ever buy Ammo and Aluminium off Arturo. Paying with purified water from my Hangmans Alley, small, water farm.

Me either.  I specifically didn't say I got the CTD from picking the magazine up.  I got the CTD from clicking on the magazine(s) in inventory AFTER I picked the magazine up.

I don't know from using the "right joystick," as I am not a console peasant.

As to "installing the mod properly," I took the archive, dragged it into Mod Organizer 2, and double-clicked to install, just like every other mod.  Assuming the mod was packaged correctly, it was installed correctly.  I have other mods that add new magazines that work just fine:  https://dai2nogs.blogspot.com/2016/06/ckhentai-magazin.html, for example.

If I had to guess, could the problem be related to the perks you are trying to add?  Like, I already have Lovers Embrace, and if I click on the magazine again, it tries to give me Lovers Embrace again, can't, and freaks out?

Seconded. Plz no cheats. If I want cheats there are a thousand cheat mods.

i considered making them consumable magazines for leveled lists but I'm not sure how to do that yet. There is a mod called Wasteland Imports that does it but I wasn't able to see how it's scripted

Write a leveled list with Fo4edit?  Like that's how a lot of people did it not that long ago in Skyrim, it used to be that we expected people to write merge patches but I guess scriptors gotta make the pheasants lazy.

OK.... ill find that magaizine again, pick it up, open it in the inventory and see what happens. I'm looking into it but so far you're the first to say anything. I've messed around with those mags in my inventory for hours when I CCd them into my game for screenshots. I had nothing like that happen once.

Just because some people use controllers doesn't mean they're on console. Sorry to upset you superior one...

I don't know what happened but you shouldn't be getting CTDs from selecting it in your inventory.

I'm sorry if you're angry with my mod but it is brand new and haven't been able to test it all yet. Sure the mod isn't perfect but are any of us?

Keep an eye out for the perk free version..should be done today. I'm looking into the other problems too

Correct your inventory orientation / crash issues by following this setup, per magazine:

Capture.thumb.JPG.7f397a45d19646b64a91edf6937af6da.JPG

You need to have a Material Swap in the WORLD ART.

Also, the item you are using as the INVENTORY ART, it too needs a Material Swap - the same one you used in WORLD, incidentally. This will be a STATIC ITEM form.

Im sure once you correct your forms, your magazine will stop CTDing some peoples games and display in the correct orientation. Also be sure to apply the Transform Fix, as I do above.

Granted, you wont need a script like I use, nor will you use the same Featured Item Message I do, but thats something for you to work out if you want or not.

The message is literally a MESSAGE form with a small message in it, like: You picked up a copy of ...

OK thank you I will do that ASAP... I was unsure of a few things, I thought I was following the correct directions but I must not have. How do I select my inventory art in the pulldown? I looked for it once but couldn't find it

Your Inventory Art is a static object. If you look in the object explorer of the CK in World Objects, you will see Static. In there, there are HighPoly* magazines. Just use one of those and duplicate / rename it. Then makes the changes you need. Once you've got the static set up you come back to the book and set the Inv.Art to the static object.

But if you arent using the CK, then you have a WORLD of headachy work to do in Fo4Edit, which I do not use for this sort of thing and cannot advise.

I'm using Creation Kit and i'm learning on the fly so I hope the way I set it up isn't causing CTDs for everyone now... hoping I don't have to hide the mod for now. Working on it.

Let me post some quick screenshots to get you on the right track:

1. Set a magazine up like this one, ignoring the script and message dropdown.

Capture.thumb.JPG.f9c49b06f74fe5b19808411bb113dd57.JPG

2. Click EDIT on the World Art and add your BGSM as a Custom Material Swap. If your material BGSM is done correctly, the magazine should show in preview:

Capture.thumb.JPG.99a5b334ed94b4269694d5a9e08a3242.JPG

3. Click Ok to exit material swap. Okay to close the book. We will go make a custom Art file now.

4. Go to STATIC in the CK object window. Find HighPoly_PicketFences01. When you do, right click and select DUPLICATE.

5. Change the name of the form to whatever you want. Best to use a good naming method to keep things easy. Say, XXX_HighPoly01 as an example.

6. It will ask to create new form, or click no to rename. Click NO. And then click YES to confirm.

7. Now open this form.

Capture.thumb.JPG.eb1b1ede8fbed58a8fb2b1342f58b259.JPG

8. Its going to look like this. Change the DISPLAY  NAME to whatever you want it to be. Note that you NEED ONE of these for every mag in your mod!!!

9. Each Book NEEDS a Static. ie: XXX_HighPoly01, XXX_HighPoly02, XXX_HighPoly03, etc. The books need this too. XXX_Book01, XXXBook02, etc.

10. Leave the Model alone, but click EDIT to open Material Swap.

11. Do NOT worry that the mesh appears washed out on the ground plane in the preview. Simply change to custom material swap and add your mag's material file.

Capture.thumb.JPG.39ad53a2a033a042bd346d3b2da0a87d.JPG

12. Click Ok. On Static Object, click OK.

13. Go back into the book and set the Inventory Art dropdown to the Static you just made. Boom! Done.

You now have a CORRECT magazine that you can place in the game, sell at vendors and will display properly in player's inventory.

Provided you have the proper textures and material files set up, which I am assuming you already do.

My advice and it sucks perhaps, but go through your mod and make 1 Book per magazine and link it to 1 Static per magazine, as shown above. Then go into the book and file in the lesser items, such as keyframes, perks if required, scripts if you use any. Also, the message dropdown is good too, as you can create a message that displays when the book is picked up for the first time. Example Message, as shown in SS#1 above:

Capture.JPG.ed69b03a64d9eca4d7956dded97e3a90.JPG

This is literally all there is to it! Once you knock out one or two of these, you will have a rhythm and you'll get through all 72 of them in no time...
