The PC Gamer article on LL

The site doesn't have ~80,000. I have no idea where they got that number. The exact number at the time of me writing this is 1,583,537 registered users.

Edit: they likely got the 80,000 from the member directory page, http://www.loverslab.com/members which has about that many PAGES of members, so they likely confused the number of pages for the number of users.

Article: "LoversLab and its roughly 80,000 members "

"Hello darkness my old friend.."

But yeah It looks like they misunderstood 80,000 pages as 80,000 members.

I don't take issue with the article at all.

The author seems like a normal dude with mainstream social conditioning, i.e. violence isn't a topic, sex is taboo. I find he's surprisingly open and tolerant - instead of condemning rape fantasies as a good citizen is supposed to, he even references research that shows having such fantasies is normal and healthy.

And I think there is a lot of goodwill in that article. He could have presented the modding community in a much worse light or focused on the things sure to disturb mainstream people for a better clickbait effect, yet he didn't.

Thank goodness.  It makes sense to have more people interested in sex than killing children (1.5mlm vs. 300K) otherwise humanity is heading to extinction.  I was worried when I looked up the numbers that there are ~4x more likely child murderers than potential rapists.

Well, that was a pretty good read.

Nice to read some quotes from Ashal and other prominent modders.

Also nice that the author really seemed to try not to condemn what he saw here. It would have been easy to do and he didn't.

A little too much focus on what playing rape mods means for you though. Then again it's understandable because it's hard to overlook the elephant in the room. And I found most of what he wrote about that topic interesting too since I don't follow the research on it.

lol and I just made a post about that on the Rant thread...

it was a good read although I am more concerned about it making too much noise...

hopefully not enough noise that the SJW crowd will come knocking down LL's door...

let's just focus on the fact that people have kinks...and people will find ways to express those kinks in  a medium where they won't be shunned for it publicly and doesn't necessarily impinge upon other people (or mythical creatures') rights...

there are more "disturbing" things in the world right now you know...like the threat of imminent nuclear war...Internet Un-privacy...women getting raped and killed in Europe by immigrants (hopefully videogame sex mods aren't the cause of this)...random "Non-Terrorist" attacks around the world...

but by all means let us shed light on the nerds and their sex mods...they could be potential sex offenders or worse...^^

meanwhile, how's that sex party for the rich held in New York?

A better article would be "Skyrim mods are awesome because I can kill people in more creative ways including children but the existence of sex mods sicken me."

I feel like this deserves repeating. Everyone seems fine with highly detailed, obscenely graphic murder simulators, but the second there are boobs involved things need to be "regulated" because of the psychological impact. I find games like Outlast, Resident Evil, and Silent Hill so disturbing that I can't play them--they are viscerally unsettling to me--but I don't think people who enjoy them are deviant, malicious, wannabe serial killers.

It would be nice if articles such as this would consider the totality of the media and medium in question.  This article is as much a reveal of Mr. Messner's beliefs, attitudes, and acceptances as it is a story of LoversLab, the many mods, and the people who make or use such mods.  Unfortunately, as the article never steps away from the undertone of bias--or at the very least, unease with the subject matter--it does not appreciate the effort and individuality that goes into this site and the available mods.

Regarding the article's focus upon sexual-themed violence, I would contend that such mods merely explore what already and subtly exists in Skyrim.  Bandit forts and necromancers' lairs have people locked in cages, and we see the torture racks and wall manacles.  That these devices are included in the game point to their offscreen use as a means for bandits, necromancers, vampires, and other fiendish people or creatures to engage in hostile acts that deviate from theft and murder, which are shown and encountered frequently in the game.  Of course, there are mods that go beyond the groundwork as provided by the game's setting and depictions, but to address such mods as "troubling" and "uncomfortable subject matter" is an easy way to bypass the application of critical thought regarding the author's inclination to view a fictional setting that involves fantasy elements as a threat to an unspecified and physical group of people.

I enjoy Skyrim.  I prefer a modded gameplay experience.  I also enjoy that I can include or exclude mods according to my tolerances.  One would hope that anyone who introduces a mod to their game will have read the mod's description, perused the comments page, and made an informed decision to accept the mod for what it is.  If a mod makes a gamer troubled and uncomfortable, he can navigate elsewhere and take solace in his comforts, and I hope people like Mr. Messner can do so while we make informed and consenting choices as to which modifications we will introduce into our games.

Apart from that "80K members", the rest sounded rather reasonable to me.

Naturally the author takes issue with rape and some of the more extreme fetishes here. But in no point does he point fingers or make general assumptions about the community.

And of course he wouldn't go into much details, PC Gamer is a mainstream site after all.

I don't see much controversy here, to be honest. It's a sex mod site where rape is an often used concept, most certainly not without popular demand. And remembering some of the past articles on Loverslab, this is by far one of the least condemning and generally level-headed ones I've ever read. Hell, considering the Nexus used to ban people for even mentioning the name of this site, this article is peanuts. And for me, a true testament of how far Loverslab has come since the beginning.

It's been one hell of a trip, and it keeps on getting better.

First, I do think that we are all responsible for what we do. We put the red line were we wants with our own awareness. Thus we are free to do what we want on our pc in our room THIS IS PRIVATE!!!

Second, I was very disappointed by EA and Bioware with Dragon age Inquisition and their SJW, which spoiled most of the game compare to DAO. This is a good exemple of what will happen if there is no more internet/modding freedom.

Third, those scientists, doctors and so called good thinkers of the society are those who can not acknowledge we are adult creating and/or using sexmods who allow us to do things we can not in real life with out hurting someone. When It is so easy to watch porn on the web or even advertising on the street or some women clothes. I never heard of any pc gamer using sexmod raping any women in real life. In my opinion this article doesn't talk much of LL and the modders, they deserved much better.

Fourth, Long Live to LoversLab and those who created it. Skyrim could not be so great without all these sexmods.

Ps: I may have made some mistakes, English is not my mother-tongue, it's the thuum :)

Ashal, do you have any stats on active/new users/downloads to see if it spikes over few days after that article went live? Would be interesting to see a graph :D

that would be interesting to see as well...I do note there is a marked increase in the number of "guests" viewing the site these past couple of hours after that article...

Well like most, the way I see it is, in almost all games, we kill hundreds of people, animals, monsters ect ect ect. So i mean, to me, sexual mods is no weirder than most things in games. I never really understood all the judgment considering that, but people will be people. Although some things in the article did seem sorta negative (although I tend to misunderstand or misread a lot) it was nice to see it done in a more understanding and mature way. I didn't read all of it though, but from what i did read, i liked it.

To be honest prolly the least "burn them burn them now" review of LL i've read

Considering the ones i've read in the past, few more years and everything here will be considered normal if the trend continues

Don't worry we have mods that gives dicks to chicks so were like the most honored status in the SJW community.
