The new internet surveillance

I don't know if it has been discussed yet but how are the new internet surveillance laws going to affect sites like LL where virtually everyone uses an alias? Governments are going to be spying on us and recording all our browsing history as from next year which lots of local agencies will have access to. What do we do, delete our accounts or what?  :D  Just curious.

Well, in that case, you'd better download LL onto your computer and delete your account. Oh, and don't forget to change your address and telephone number, just in case... you might even want to move to another country... you never know when they'll come to raid your house...

PS. Bet they'll eventually outlaw everything but "straight missionary", so if you have any weird fetishes and stuff, get rid of them.

This is really happening you know, I don't think too many members will be logging on to LL next year when their employers, service providers and local admins etc. will all have access to their email and entire internet history.

I'd like to hear what the admins of this site think about it.

The fact that the government is spying on you isn't anomalous.  This has been the status quo since the beginning of time.  All governments do this in some fashion or another, and always have.  Whether openly or in secret, that's what governments do!  It's naive to entertain the idea that they wouldn't do such a thing, and whether or not they should is a different issue.

I would argue that the word 'privacy' does a disservice to us.  I don't necessarily believe I have the right to my 'privacy'.  However, I'm certain that I have the right to my dignity, which is a claim far superior to privacy.  I think equating the two in every instance is an error.

I don't fear a system of total control I don't even belong to. Already told my happy-to-see-me NSA followers on twitter back in late 2013 that establishing colorful rules for everybody is one thing, trying to enforce them south of the Rio Grande is quite another...

Have fun

The hackers will have a field day with it. A year from now every politician's naughty browsing history will be available online for the public to peruse. It will be a nasty business. I'm expecting to get a few good links from that for my favorites folder. By next election, privacy will suddenly be the top item on the list.

It could happen.

Precisely the point I was trying to make. It's about the ramifications too. I Know LL isn't a porn site but  it looks like one when you first come across it and people checking your history might not make a distinction.

The thing that blows my mind is that I thought once everyone's "dirty" laundry was exposed, they would see it was pretty common and just shrug and add it to common human experience, which up until now was never openly talked about.

It's taking way too long for society to evolve and get over their sex-phobia.

There are fetishes here that freak me the fuck out but I'm not going to dictate what another person can or can not do. (and pedophilia is clearly out of the question and clearly outlined in the sites rules, as it should be).

So I guess when they let all the people who were arrested for marijuana out of prison, they will replace them with the internet porn perverts

I don't want to be a footnote in history of how unenlightened we were as a society like something out of the Spanish Inquisition.

They've been spying on us the whole time, it's nothing new. The NSA was -exposed-, not kickstarted by snowden. Everything you do online is -already- tracked, not just by the NSA, but by data mining companies, who then sell the information 'anonymized' to advertisers.

But that doesn't matter as much as you think it does. Is it bad? Yes. Is it dangerous? Yes. Will it probably affect you, unless you specifically go into politics? Unlikely. I'd be a lot more upset about it if they weren't already doing it the whole time... they're going to spy on us whether we let them or not. Sure, we should fight it, and do our best to stop it, but that doesn't mean that once this law passes that any 'naughty' site will dry up and vanish overnight.

The internet is for porn. That isn't going to change. xD

It seems rather a stretch to me to go from government agencies having access to browsing history (sites visited) to your potential employer being able to access a government database and check this out

before you get to worried it might be worth bearing in mind the cost/time/general hassle all employers have now in doing back ground check to look for criminal activity before you get overly concerned about whether they are going to check whether you've been visiting dodgy sounding websites
