[DOA5LR] Timmy's Private Stash, Tips & Tools - UPDATE(11/21/18): Kinky Overalls

Recommended Posts

I decided to share some of my earlier work that has yet been made public here.   Most of my mods are crude and are proof of concept creations that are basically meant as beta tests for my tools.  As such, they lack any polish any modder with self respect would consider "publishable" and some of them just plain suck, so use at your own risk.  I also have very poor skills with 3d modeling software as I had not touched it prior to starting DOA5 modding, so you have been warned. :)

https://mega.nz/#F!kspG0D6Y!4scdBa3rxyJBvMe-3ezfug

It contains:

Curiosity pack - this is one of the earliest test mods I did when I managed to inject correct normal vectors back into TMC.  This is for Kasumi with a heart shaped icon from Harry.

MilkPlus angelic/demonic - Angelic is the shaved version and demonic is the bushy version.  I think they both occupy slot 35, so they can't co-exist.  This pack contains 15 ladies with custom made icon.  I think the name is self explanatory :)

RealPhysicsSeries beta -  Screenshots of this can be found in screenshots thread. This pack contains outfit for Kasumi, Ayane, Leifang, Hitomi & Pai.

XmasInJuly- screenshots can be found in screenshots thread.  There are some issues with animation on Hitomi which might bother some people.  I forgot how many this one includes, but look for xmas clothing icons.

Update 08/13/15: Added Nyotengu back to Xmas In July pack

Update 08/14/15: Modernized the weight assignment in the Xmas In July pack for the following characters

  • Kokoro - now her outfit should move in a more synchronous manner with her chest.
  • Hitomi - This is a hard one to fix, but I think I made some decent improvements.   There are still some issues with animation when her arms are close to her body since there's no suitable weight to assign to the dangling piece under her armpit, but it's not too noticeable in action
  • Marie - Fixed the lifted shirt now the movement is more natural and is synchronous with her chest.  No more weird lines across her chest that were visible in the old version.

Feast your eyes on the mod that defies all laws of physics! (yes, even by DOA standard)

Who needs soft engine when we can get boobs that don't stop bouncing even when she's standing still.

Thanks to SaafRats for this pair of wonderfully sculpted breasts :)

I will probably expand the collection to include some of my more recent work once I get time to clean them up, and if there's any demand for those.  I haven't really spent much time at all on DOA5 since a few weeks ago and only recently I picked up where I left off on the development of my tools to finish them, so at least my project is now complete instead of being left in an unfinished state.

I dug up some screenshots from the screenshot thread

Real Physics Series - It never made any sense to me how girls could be fighting in this kind of outfits yet miraculously avoid wardrobe malfunction, so i took it in my own hands to correct the issue.

Xmas In July - girls found a creative way to maximize the jingling of their bells :) (they don't make any sound, though, I suspect these bells are cheap plastic knockoffs.)  I remember when I was working on this pack, Jingle Bell Rock was stuck in my head.

All of this stuff would not have been possible without work and/or help from

Harry Palmer (ignited my interested in DOA5 modding, provided excellent tutorials and nude mesh/textures)

Holden/Galhound/Follardo (for the wonderful bushy/HDR texture packs)

Lilstormcloud/Protocol X27 (for tutorials and help with general modding)

Mr. Dotouku (for the wonderful tool suite)

Support from my friends - SaafRats, Siframe, Digitalcookie(my beta tester :) ), and many many more friends here on LL.

I would appreciate it if these mods were not uploaded/repacked elsewhere.

A bit of background on how and why these mods were conceived:

I started learning how to mod DOA back in May inspired by Harry and his tutorial on how to edit vertex.  I became very interested in this type of byte level modding which I had not thought of before, and it completely blew my mind.   I decided to get my hands dirty and tried to create some of the most basic tools that would allow me to inject vertices from 360 TMC back into PC TMC with a small degree of success.

I then took a trip for about a month.  After I came back in early June, I decided to get back in the game and started making some mods to test my stuff.  It quickly became obvious that I needed a way to inject normal vectors back into PC TMC if I want to be able to freely modify meshes.

The milk plus packs are the result of this research.  Modifying breast sizes of ladies that are already quite large (pretty much every girl except Marie) without modifying normal vectors produces no noticeable flaw, however, with Marie, I couldn't get away with not touching the normal vectors, so I decided to spend time on figuring out how that can be done, and I think the result is quite satisfying.  This bit of work also enabled Saaf and I to bring topless Honoka to you guys :) when mesh editing was relatively difficult.

After learning how to do vertex positions and normal vectors, I have decided to take it one step further (with the help of the now popular TMC Polygon Tool suite) to go backwards from PC TMC -> OBJ instead of having to rely on finding 360 TMC and converting it to PC TMC.  My next series of tests would create "Real Physics Series" pack which was yet another proof of concept creation that demonstrates the ability to edit meshes that have been combined using external tools.

My next challenge was to learn how to handle blend weight and index, so I could attach objects anywhere I want.  After a lot of head scratching and loss of sleep, I created several piercing mods and the "Xmas In July" pack that deal with modifying weights/bone stuff on a massive scale.  It's a shame that the bells don't make any sound.

For the more technically inclined

There were several issues I ran into when attempting to repair normal vectors when it comes to seam smoothing.  The original script by Mariocart64 (he basically started the whole thing) for 360 TMC doesn't import or export normal vectors, so I had to come up with a way to fix it.

Taking hint from Harry, I thought about averaging the normals across seams which resulted in something like this:

attachicon.gifV3_2_tool_seam_test_03.jpg

As you can see above, the butt crack area is now way over-smoothed.

To deal with this problem, I had to take into account the angle between two faces that have overlapping vertices to determine whether or not the normals should be averaged.  Triangles on a smooth surface would have almost zero angle of intersection and it is the case where normals should be averaged.  In areas such as butt cracks, angle would be relatively large and the normals should be left alone.  This is very similar to computer graphics concept that is used to determine how well lit a triangle should be when drawing.  Adjusting the angle to less than 53 degrees would yield something like this:

attachicon.gifV3_2_tool_seam_test_01.jpg

Now the butt crack looks normal and the little triangle on the top of butt crack looks smooth and pleasing (to me) too!

Changing the angle to less than 18 degrees would create sharper seams like this:

attachicon.gifV3_2_tool_seam_test_02.jpg

Now there's a new problem, wanting smoother butt cracks would cause anomalies in finger nail normals:

attachicon.gifV3_2_tool_seam_nail_corrupted.jpg

After adjusting the number and losing the smooth butt cracks, the finger nails look normal again:

attachicon.gifV3_2_tool_seam_nail_fixed.jpg

I have recently picked up where I left off a few weeks ago in my tool development and added the ability to do UV as well for the sake of completion.   Tool making has always been what kept me going.  One interesting fact I discovered during the implementation of UV import/export is that TMC format (or game development in general I imagine) uses short 16 bit float to represent UV.  Normally a float is 32 bit which takes up quite a bit more space and computation power.  16 bit float seems to be graphics cards' comfort zone.  There are many deviations from the academic application of computer graphics in gaming application where speed is at utmost importance, and I have learned many cool tricks along the way.

I particularly enjoyed the challenge in creating mods with self made tools (and having SaafRats beta test them for me.. :) )  It was much more satisfying to me than mod making itself, and I was happy that I could apply what I learned in school to some actual use.

I will consider releasing my converter (as pictured in some of the shots above) if there is demand for it.  It seems to fill a niche since no tools currently available that I know of can inject the correct normal vectors.

For performance enhancement, I employed multi-threading since the seam smoothing operation requires the process to compare every vertex with every other vertex which results in a tremendous amount of work.  A simple model with 10,000 vertices would require 100,000,000 cycles of computation (10k ^2).  For complex models such as Marie Cos 001 with over 35k vertices just on her costume alone would take over 200 seconds in a single threaded operation.  The process time is now cut down to less than 20 seconds with multi-threading.

please upload tmc

Here's the Ayane costume I made a little while ago for fun while browsing.  I saw one of Follardo's mods and came up with this idea.

I dusted it off yesterday and spent some time on fixing clipping issues.  I think it's pretty playable now with no noticeable flaws in action.

Credits go to the usual suspects as stated in my acknowledgement section.

Update: Fixed some stray vertices.  Thanks to MrMojorisin's report.

Lol, I was focused on the left side to show Ayane without the toe nail defect and forgot to check what was on the right side of the picture.  These ladies have a lot of depth.

Ink reshuffle is probably the easiest and the fastest way to replace the existing cos011.

Question. I have dl some (not sure if I got all the necessary tools) of the tools but haven't used them yet. So if I use ink, once it's been modded(the file), I don't have to reactivate the tool anymore? The  change is permanent? That's why I did not try umod. Too cumbersome.

Ink reshuffle v3 for 1.02a can be reverted by simply deleting the config files it creates, but make a backup copy of your game to be on the safe side.  It is one of the easiest way to get mod into your game, especially for those official non-DLC costumes.

Once you have reshuffled the files into the game, there's no need to keep it on while playing the game.

great work (especially xmax and realphys), thanks. Can you upload tmc file so i can replace all ugly vanila custom with your amazing custom?

Glad you like it.

You should be able to extract the TMC files from the DLC packs with archavius

I have ink ver 3. Though with this as reference, do I also have to put this dinput8.dll too? Or no need.

Great work Timmy, not going to download it as piercings not my cup of tea, but I appreciate the hard work that went into making this so wanted to make a comment :)

If it isn't too much to ask, mind uploading that Kasumi costume too?

Awesome mod, timmyc.

Do you have this string on character, from feet to shoulder? (images)

I love your mod and with this original nipples. I'm using Nvidia GTX 650 and GTX 980 Ti.

Edit: String on Real Physics Series too.

Xmas In July works great, no string on feet to shoulder.(maybe cause girls are wearing shoes?)
