So I have been using Racemenu for a long time but I feel as though ECE offers better looks over Racemenu especially for the face.

I however love the simplicity of Racemenu and the fact that it allows you so many customizations as well as overlays.

Ā

Ā

Hence my question, since ECE and Racemenu have skin/normal textures and face mods that are mutually exclusive and are not designed to be used by one or the other; which one do you use?

btw does ECE affect anything on LL like belly nodes (body sliders) or whatnot?

Ā

I am currently using Unified UNP mod for my UNPB body along with a sporty muscle normal map. I am not sure what skin texture or face mods I am using but its just a mishmash of mods like elven overhaul, SOS male body and the Realvision ENB that makes the game adequately good enough but no where near as good as some of the screen shots I see sometimes despite my system being top of the line.

Ā

Anyway which one do you guys prefer? just to satisfy my curiosity how does your game look in a screenshot?

I'm gonna [/thread] this right here and say; Racemenu master race. ECE does not offer anything Racemenu can't do (and do better).

Ā

strange there are so few racemenu presets compared to cme save then

Ā

and my char use cme save 1 converted to citrus in recemenu (if racemenu can't do that, was probably able to do it because i use both)

That's because there's still people who blindly cling to ECE and haven't changed over, and also because ECE did have certain capabilities before RM did so people did use ECE more. But RM has them now, and unlike ECE, RM is up to date. Last ECE version was in January, RM in the meantime has gotten a ton of new stuff since then, and Groovtama for example has basically dropped explicit ECE support in favor of RM, a move i fully support.

I'll just leave that for OP.

Ā

Hopefully we can start using searches before potentially starting/renewing more flame wars/debates.

Ā

I have actually seen those but most of the discussions are technical rather than I use ECE with these 3 particular mods and here is how it looks.

which is something I find much more interesting. I though perhaps a thread dedicated specifically rather which one is better because of the coding or mod supports it has.

Ā

Sorry if I was not clear enough in the OP, I see so many screenshots of amazing set ups from people where its enb or body I never manage to understand/find out their complete set up or whatever.

I've used ECE for a long time. Longer than I have RM. I plan to make the switch later, when I can port over my faces. And that's mainly the reason why I haven't now, but I never liked the SkyUI integration in RM like others have stated. I prefer the smooth simple vanilla interface. But I'm willing to give RM a chance later in the future because ECE is outdated. and doesn't have much support which leaves me out of some mods I would like to try.

There's a thread much more suited for you then:

Your current thread's title is not going to get you what you want, and at worst just rekindle the debate/flame war.

that's because they didn't found a racemenu preset good enought for them (isn't that why... there's a mod to help put those ece head in racemenu?)

Ā

most (myself included) just pick a preset and customised it

i have switch to racemenu because i wasn't able to load citrus in ece (the tutorial "find how to do that yourself" wasn't much help)

Ā

could probably do it with bodychange now, maybe i'll go back to ece (don't care what racemenu can do, i only showracemenu to pick new hairs, and racemenu menu... i like the old crappy one more)

I've always preferred racemenu because of the overlay stuff etc but as I used ECE first, I stick with ece as there are more sliders for specifics like nose height etc etc. I can't ever remake my characters face in racemenu, it's just not good enough.

This discussion is as redundant as the cbbe vs unp one. Anybody sticking rigidly to those old hat ways of doing things should know they're missing out on a lot of fun stuff.Ā

Ā

As for ECE presets...pfft. If it doesn't work nicely with RM I ain't interested.Ā

Racemenu has it's shortcomings.

- Custom extra headparts are saved when creating presets or exporting the head, but fails to load when using those presets or importing the head.

- Some custom face morphs specifically made for custom races do not load. Ā The situation is just like the custom headparts.

- When creating a game save while on horseback, loading the save will cause your character to have the dark head bug. Ā (I have not tested this with the latest RM so it may or may not have been fixed).

I honestly like ECE way more because I can make better looking characters there than in Racemenu. For some reason I have always struggled to make nice characters with Racemenu. I just hope that bodymorphs and body paint were compatible with ECE.

Everything has its pros and cons, but one thing is for sure, RaceMenu has it's unavoidable flaws and if ECE was in par I wouldn't be hesitant to return to it. The eye deformation really kills it for me with RaceMenu. And even the mirror in sculpt is awful as well. There's times where I just want to drop RM and go back to ECE, but then I miss out on a lot of other mods that are wonders that rely on RM.

I think ECE and RM both have their own strength although, apparently, RM seems more flexible and far more options and better interfaces for creating character but that does not mean you can really create a character seamlessly the same as ECE. I mean, they are not typical 3D modelling and both MODs have their extents to personalise your character in Skyrim. There is not much point to compare but if you could ask more specifically like numbers of options in comparison or ways of changing character's faces in comparison; that might be more appropriate?

Ā

I do not hope anyone publicly does general comparison between MODs and MODs. Most of them are very honest and dedicated works. They are all best and they all have their strength no matter to what extent and advantages users may take. Because when you compare, there will be competition and someone has to be discarded which is not positive at all for developing MODs. Most MODs are driven by interests and I wish modders would not loose their genuine interests in sharing public opinions. Even if some MODs have inferior aspects comparing with their counterparts, that does not mean there will be less users, less importance or less needs. In fact, it depends on the perspectives of using even if the majority who express their opinions in somewhere may not agree. There always someone who needs and appreciates your interests and work.

Ā

However, honestly, in this survey, I would prefer ECE because I am female character and I sense ECE does better job in creating female characters, I mean the face. This does not necessarily mean RM does less good at it. From my observation, ECE is originally developed specialising in creating female characters and it has seamless options to do so. Also, it was originally characterised into oriental female models (I could be wrong), so if you are females in Skyrim and you prefer a little bit aesthetically more oriental looks/bloods, I would suggest you start with ECE. Otherwise, RM might be more international and you prefer more options and slides for your own characters?

I used to use ECE. But the heavy script load it creates forced me to switch to Racemenu when my mod load got heavy. It actually forced me to become half-decent at the sculpting feature in the character creation menu. Especially when it comes to rounding off those elven chins. Yikes!

i still prefer making faces in ECE, i dont know what it is about mirroring edits in RM sculpting that has always been busted. Also ECE has some more (skeleton) body sliders. Overall RM is probably still betterĀ ?
