The state of the FO76 Announcement discussion thread. I have nothing more to add to it, but I like to check in once in a while to see what else is going on with this game. Some people like it, many people don't. That's fine. A lot of us don't care about whether or not someone likes or dislikes the game. Both fans and haters, either agree to disagree or STFU. Let the people posting relevant articles, vids, and their own honest opinions do so in peace. And for the LL moderators, I have to agree that it is time to let those who like the game have their own thread so they can discuss it in peace. Merging their threads together with the existing one is just causing trouble.

 

What I care about is what's going to happen with Bugthesda legally. Besides the civil lawsuit over their (expected) one-eighty on refunds using the flimsiest of pretexts, I care more about what the Federal Trade Commission investigation will lead to. If they do rule that that company is guilty of deceptive business practices, the punishment could be anything from a proverbial slap on the wrist to fines so severe that Bethesda Studios is forced to declare bankruptcy to possible criminal charges against key employees or executives-in-charge. Given that the FTC is already under pressure to investigate paid loot boxes in other games as a form of gambling, they might even decide to make an example of BS to send a message to other gaming companies (*cough* EA *cough*) who think they can get away with whatever they want. At this point it's too soon to tell anything.

Angry fanboys picking apart Star Wars with a pair of tweezers has been a trend since the Special Editions were released in the early 90s. Rey routinely pulls out high end force powers from nowhere every other Jedi/Sith in the series's history has been described as spending years training to master. She's also not the first lead to be highly disliked (Anakin). Finn was completely sidelined in TLJ, given a side story that doesn't go anywhere just to have something to do. Disney flat out admitted Rose Tico only exists to pander to the Chinese market, which didn't work out well for them. And Admiral Holdo was a smug, incompetent asshole who's utter refusal to communicate with her own troops led to a mass mutiny. Which almost derailed her plans that she had no reason to withhold from her people whatsoever but decided to anyways because.... ?‍♂️

 

And the youtube comments sections are a toxic cesspit that will drive you insane if you try to argue down people there.

 

And as FauxFurry said the hardcore Anti-SJW crowd might become a real threat later. As someone from the Navy; Holdo is a terrible character. She's the worse Star Wars character I have ever seen. Her behavior has absolutely no decorum as a military officer. She's too good to wear a uniform like those in rank, instead wears evening wear as if she is above everyone else (uniforms are very important in the military). She sneers at the hot headed pilots, taking a dig at them being males, instead of professionally disciplining them or even dressing them down if that was needed- though that would be jumping the chain of command. The pilots are the responsibility of their commander. She really made me cringe, as in face palm embarrassed cringe. Women in the military have worked very hard to gain admittance to command and the higher ranks. I would never insult any of them by holding Holdo as an example as a female fleet commander who has her own ideas.  I couldn't figure out if the makers of the movie were portraying her as a bad officer or if they were serious about portraying her as a serious character. I seriously thought she was a parody.

 

Rey, yeah, she's is a bit of a Mary Sue. I get where they were going with her, or trying, as in making her like a female Clint Eastwood, which I could totally get behind, which is why she's so serious. I don't agree with a lot of the critics who say she's too stone faced, too angry, whatever, but there's been some legitimate critique about her. She doesn't have the depth of character like the female main character of Alien or Terminator. She doesn't even have any weaknesses. Watch those old shows about the cool male protagonist, the good ones do show some points of weakness, or at least character development. I.E, Batman, who is always held as a Gary Stu in these kind of arguments. He had to overcome a lot of fears as a child. We don't see that in Rey. 

 

This is a very bad model I am seeing in female protagonists today. They are flat characters that I can't identify with. Give me Ellen Ripley, or Sarah Conner.

 

As for "anti-SJWs" are nothing like SJWs. I've seen the depths of darkness of what SJWs will do to destroy others. Of course the easiest way is to jsut watch and understand the Star Wars movies in general, and the MAry Sue garbage dissipates in thin air (of course many people will never admit this, as they just dislike a new char taking over the spotlight, while fan-favourites like Han and LEia and Luke are naturally sidelined. I swear the hate the new chars get is simply dissapointment that Han got killed (as if Ford wasn't insisting on that), and Luke didn't show up in TFA and wasn't a super bad ass in TLJ - which by the way would have ruined indeed his character, but that's another topic)

 

RO was, as a Star Wars mopvie, only good in the action parts, but ALL chars were the most forgettable ones so far, even the Prequels were better, and they were BAD! As someone who has long wanted a good female Jedi who has a speaking part in the movies themselves, other than that old fussy librarian in the prequels, who was the only female Jedi with speaking lines in all of the movies- as someone who was dismayed with the female Jedi simply throwing up their arms under Order 66, unlike their male counterparts who fought to the end, I say Rey is a mary sue. That has nothing to do with SJWs. And it has nothing to do with preferring the older characters or the older movies.

 

Saying that people have't watched the new movies and don't understand them is ridiculous. It's a tiresome argument and holds no weight.
