Sims 3 is extremely heavy on cpu and gpu usage. If you don't have a serious computer built, you'd be lucky to run the game for longer than 20 minutes without experiencing a problem, like crazy lagtimes, or a strait-up screen freeze. It took me an Alienware I-7 with a GtxGeForce 650 Video Card to be able to run it smoothly on the highest graphics settings.

It barely makes use of a 6 x 3.3 Ghz not sure but i have a GTX 660 superclocked

I put it to the test after experiencing problems. The end result was my GtxGeForce660 frying on me. The Video Card is important for the graphics. The cpu is important for the queue. Tons of animations at once are being processed.

The game is just shitty made
After loading a texture moving away from it unloads it so you'll have to reload it same goes for everything
It should use my 8 GB RAM some more and my 2 GB videoRAM
My GTX is already overclocked by manufacturer

If I were to defend EA's Sims 3 'Cornerstone' (staple), I'd say that what they are trying to accomplish is admirable. They want to create a whole world that keeps functioning as normal no matter the camera angle you choose. It would also be fair to say they put an enormous amount of work into this game.

If I were to criticize The Sims 3TM, which I won't, I would say that the game can't yet handle all that it tries to put into it, unless your computer is silly strong, and will not bend to even an Ultra Quality Skyrim, even with the 'Flying Mod' being used to fly through 'Sexy Solitude' at top speeds, without a crash.

I think they tried to make the game work on older PCs as Sims is/was really popular with younger girls
It's a family game and most families don't have this game beast in their living room

...And then people like me got their hands on it! :P

Sims is really just a relaxing way for me to play a game. I can make a seriously kickass house, complete with bowling lanes, an arcade, a roller-rink, and that can all just be put right in my back yard! I can install a basement, and build a wine cellar/nectary down there. I can call a mixologist to my house to serve me and my friends drinks every day. I can become a world famous porn star, or a master of Sim Fu, or a vampire!

Sims 3 is OK in my book.

Just wanted to point out that recommending Pandora as a source for Sims content is grossly irresponsible. The content they want you to pay for on their site has all been stolen from creators who released that same content for free. What isn't stolen is of such poor quality as to be completely worthless for use. It would be like me repackaging Sexout with as many mininuke firing minigun mods as I could find and calling the whole thing my own and asking for a monthly subscription to use it.

Having said that... there is tons of excellent content for the Sims and I enjoy playing it... though I mostly just build houses, I rarely actually play the avatars in the game except to test the houses. If you like sexual content, I'd actually recommend the SIms2 instead of the Sims3... Sims3 modding has not even remotely caught up to Sims2 content, especially in the area of animations.

I would recommend modthesims and sexysims. From those two sites you can find a huge amount of content and if you follow the custom content links on the site from mod pages, you'll find dozens more sites. Or, go to one of the many sites that just list links to good Sims sites.

I agree, but I don't recommend that people pay for mods, I recommend that site to those who may agree to join a pay site. If you DO join one, that's the only one I like.

There's nothing "irresponsible" about me.

Don't want to pay??? Don't.

I'm just saying that my experience with my paid month was a happy one. Those mods were awesome, and I made sure that I used every last mod I downloaded from there, so don't accuse me advertising for pay sites. It's obviously going there.

[Disclaimer]  I do not want people to pay for mods! I do not endorse the charging of currency for their content! If you're the type who just really wants to see why certain mods are 'pay only', and you've considered a Sims 3 paysite...make it Pandora Sims. It's the only one I can say I like, or, more specifically, the only one that is worth $15 to me.

In case you haven't realized it yet, I am the opposite of a pirate. I despise the thought of something I trust people with being posted on the web, and if what astymma said is true, and he can "prove it!", then I would quickly change my vote to 0 paysites are worth it. If not, then I regret nothing.

I have 'Donated' to Nexus modders. Am I a sucker? I feel I have made good decisions. I stand by my thread.

Not really, GPU is not so important than CPU/ram optimising mods.

Put mods in one package it helps a lot clear all stuff in document folders ect.

Today I made crash test with all that mods, and I was one that crashed ;D

my rig is like 5 years old plus I have like tons of mods.

I don't think you actually understood my complaint. I don't have anything at all against paysites other than they generally have content of equal quality to freesites so why bother. What I have against Pandora is that the content you're paying for exists on other sites for free... and that it was stolen from those sites. I found pointing people to a site that does things like that irresponsible.

Now, is it possible that you enjoyed your Pandora Sims experience and think it's a worthy site? Obviously it is possible... I simply disagree with your assessment. For all I know they may have changed their tactics since I last looked at their content. I wasn't attacking paysites OR your thread... please read more carefully. You weren't accused of being a pirate either...

Actually, looking at their content now... they haven't changed. They have behavior mods from MATY and NRAAS, objects swiped from all over the place, the super nude patch might as well be a who's who of quality modthesims and sexysims creators work.

So my point is simply... yay for the Sims, fun game. Yay for having a thread to discuss it. Boo for Pandora Sims. Oh... and "meh" at paysites.

Well, I haven't launched an investigation to see if those mods are on other sites. In that case, and if they're just posting mods that already exist, then no, I don't suggest paying for it if that's what they're doing. That's a dirty thing to do.

Really, I just mentioned it because it's another Sims mod site. I just wish to mention all the sites I've downloaded from, so people know they're there.

So...yay Sims, boo people who gank mods and post them on paysites. Especially if they were released for free elsewhere.

I've found that one of the best ways to find new sites is to browse the House and Sim listings at modthesims. The custom content linked from those listings will lead you to some of the top Sims sites on the net. Start with the featured listings.

An an example, this male Sim has links to some sites I consider excellent.

I own the complete Sims 1, 2 and 3. They're awesome games, though I'm a bit skittish where it comes to TS4. Serious modding for TS3 is in the hands of only 4 or 5 modders at the moment. (I don't count the endless hairmods/ spray on bad texture clothes mods as serious) And I'm worried that once TS4 is actual (March '14), that it will be like that's all folks!

For now I would like to advertize Navetsea (I even use his Skyrim-skins in my Skyrim, that's how loyal I am to him).

http://navetsea.blogspot.nl/

The why is easy... his skins invoke the uncanny-valley effect on your sims. Easy as.

To enhance the skins with 3D ugly, look here:

http://mahamudosim3x18.blogspot.tw/2012/12/creating-new-penis-and-nipple-normal-map.html?zx=6141e054bc574afb

Mahamudo especially tailors for Navetsea skins (TS3 only, sorry to say. Would love his 3D work in Skyrim too.)

Seing it all in action with XTC Daydream is... mesmerizing. I love the couch-missionary especially.

A new update came out for Sims 3. I only played for an hour today, but from what I can see, it's a good one. My loading screen shows a clear picture of a dlc (Sunlit Isles in my case), which covers the whole screen. Sounds trivial, but it looks an awful lot better than the unfocused backdrop and words they used to have. Also, water pours off the sides of the house when it's raining (assuming you have Seasons). There may be a lot more I haven't seen, but so far I think it's a nice update. Normally, I barely notice a difference when an update happens to a game, but this one seems rather pleasant. It didn't mess with any of my many mods either. I'm glad I can finally say these things about an update.  :)

Sims 4 should be out fairly soon, though I haven't seen an actual release date. Hopefully, LL modders will consider making a few mods for it. It seems they've added an emotion system to the game, which could be an awfully nice thing to have when making sex mods (and 'worse'  ;)). Facial expressions can be used and 'abused' in some pretty explicit mods, and 'feelings' can now play a part as well. All good things for modders. The graphics are smoother, the customization for Create-a-Sim seems to have more options, and the clothes look better, but I really hope they put more realism into it. I'd like to see hair 'blowing in the wind', or boobs bouncing (unlikely, but I can hope), or cars not plowing through other cars and people as if they weren't there.

Also, I don't yet know what they plan on doing about 'work', but I miss the old-school mini-game jobs you had on Urbs: Sims in the City. You get to actually perform your work yourself. I had it on X-Box. You had to press the right button combination in sequence in order to make good money, and earn raises. I'd like for Sims 4 to have a similar method of working. We'll see.

At any rate, I hope they provide another modding tool, like TSR Workshop for 3. Not sure I'll be getting it right away though. I'll let an expansion or 2 come out first, so I can bypass the 'risky update' thing that tends to happen when you buy new games. Plus, I'll need the 'remove censor' mod to come out before I get it, so I never once have to see an annoying 'mosaic blur' on my Sims. I truly hate that censor!

Here's looking forward to Sims 4:)

First time playing the game with mods and there are a lot of incompatibility due to version. I've read a bunch of the tutorials (some are rather old) which mention version 1.24.3 or above but mods still won't work (game crashes at second load screen). "Sims 3 has stopped working". I've been reluctant to patch to far for fear of no return and losing the ability to mod the game. I don't know how old the tutorials are but most seem rather outdated. Some have you putting your packages in the Documents sub directories while others have you putting them into the Programs(x86) sub's. so there are quite a few discrepancies, these are just a few.

any light that can be shined on this would be greatly appreciated.

How far can I patch and still have a mod-able game?.

Always use the latest patch...ALWAYS. :)

Almost all the mod that you saw in the front page or on the top of the download section are for the latest version. You need to dig far deeper to find the older version, which is very bothersome. Basically, patched to the latest patch is always the most convenience and safe. As modders always update their mod as soon as possible.

If you found a mod but for the outdated version, leave it and find the latest version of the same mod or the same function. If you have older version of mods in your mod folder, write the name down, delete all of them and then search for the latest version. Never use outdated mod!

You can update the game using the launcher or download the latest universal 1GB patch (complete). And it also even better if you have all the EPs and SPs too (hardcore simmers).

I suppose that greatly depends on which mods you're using. Modthesims and sexysims2 (and 3, don't let the name fool you) tend to keep their stuff updated quickly, while some others may not. Earlier in the thread, I gave instructions on how to fix the "Sims 3 has stopped working" error. It's a bit crude, but I know of no other way.

Also, why do any of your mods say to go in Program Files (x86)? They should all go in your documents.

C:\Users\Owner\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages.

Did you get your resource from this thread? That's the one I use, and mine's fine. I think the new update may have knocked out my "get drunk" mod though. Oh well. I'll just go update it. It's the only one though.

Upon closer inspection, the new update also made some other nice changes too. When you go somewhere with someone, you're not automatically in a 'group' anymore. And, if you go somewhere with another sim from your household, and you make both of them 'go home' at the same time, you don't have the annoyance of watching the first person to reach the road get into their car, while the other catches a friggin cab. Now, they both get in the car together. Makes way more sense.

Also, when you 'assign a bed' to a sim (University), others can sleep in it too, without it saying "Sleep in Valerie's bed?". The assignment is now only so sims that you don't control will know where to sleep when the time comes.

And, you get to play a silly mini-game during loading screens, that gives you in-game lifetime happiness points, to be spread out equally to each of the sims in your household!

I just got Island Paradise, so I'm looking forward to going scuba diving!  :)

well, actually there are two resources, one you download directly and one inside the FrameworkSetup download. not sure if they are supposed to be the same or not. I swapped it out for the direct DL one plus got a different "No Mosaic" package and that seems to have worked. It may well have been just the no mosaic that was causing the problems. trying to get used to the modthesims site and sexysims site. there rather tough for this old man to navigate LOL.

Yes, they are the same one. I gave the link, and the actual resource. I've had the same 'no mosaic' mod forever. If we use the same one, you should have no stupid mosaic.

When you download custom content for Sims 3, or more specifically, special content that comes with 'limited edition' expansion packs, you may find strange issues that EA support would likely not have an answer for in a live chat session. They always tell you to update your game with Origin, and to reinstall, but these notes may help avoid those issues:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please read before continuing your download
  1. It is recommended to use Firefox or Internet Explorer while using this feature.
  2. It is recommended to close your game before starting the download of multiple items. Your items will download directly to the launcher, but the launcher will not provide a confirmation once the download is complete.
  3. If you do not close your game, the items will automatically install into your game, but your game may become inactive for several minutes if a large quantity of items are being downloaded.
  4. Initiating a download of the same item multiple times will result in duplicate listings within the launcher.

A question from a poor sim noob, who is considering getting into the sims for the first time since, well, the first sims.  Since I am an immature adult, I wish only for the finest of adult entertainment (aka sex, woohoo, whoopie, the nasty, etc) in my video games.  While I use this site extensively for skyrim mods, it only recently came to mind to ask around for Sims mods.  Many thanks to the Wonderful Arch Demon for this thread.

My question, however, is this; I recently found a site that seems to have a lovely set of up to date sex animations ready and able. Ze link!

http://www.graphicalxtc.com/Sims3-SexInteractions.html

I am less than thrilled with the 'daydream' aspect, but for good animations I'll ignore that bit.  My question, however, is how well do sims mods play together?  If I like other mods in this thread, can I try them with this mod, or must I exclusively use one or the other?

Side question, are there mods that allow sexual interaction without the characters liking each other?  Hate sex does have its place, after all.

If they change same thing they may cause conflicts. Atm 'daydream' wont conflict with any of mods mentioned here.

Ive used Graphical XTC for a while now, and the day dream aspect works without the sims liking eachother, and it still count's as a woohoo in-game, (Although doesn't conceive, I don't think).

As far as mod compatibility goes Ive had no problems so far, with some item mods, a weapon mod, nude modes and Nraas overwatch (Which I recommend if your having fps issues). Graphical XTC is a fun mod, the author is active I think, which is good, as I would like to see more animations integrated.

not sure what it could conflict with but the animations don't work for me. all the options are ingame but any time they are activated the character freezes, I believe it has something to do with version cause it is the only package that while loading the game I get a message that it's script was found. I remember getting the same message with a conflicting No-mosaic package. have to wait for it to be updated I suppose.

I've never seen mods conflict for S3 before. No 2 mods seem to do the same thing the same way, so it's not like Skyrim conflicts, where 2 or more mods are using the same scripts to call on the same anims. You'll never have 2 mods trying to do the same thing.

We just got an update, so if XTC isn't working, it has to be a version issue. I use an extremely outdated XTC, but mine works still. It's not the same mod though, just another sex mod made by the same guy. Look around. You'll find plenty of mods that work still, like NRASS' Woohooer.

I was like, why have them talk gibberish, it took just as much time and effort to  have people talk all weird but then I thought, why not, no translations less cost, but still weird to listen to.

I just recently made a post talking about something similar to this, and it's something I find rather interesting.

I've discovered that a big reason I am able to enjoy Japanese games/hentai/movies, is that when it comes to the voice, I don't understand what they are saying, and this means that I am forced to fill in the gaps mentally - this leads to me filling it in with what I like. The problem with the English voice, is that there is no gap to fill.

Basically, if they recorded someone saying "god dammit, I'm so pissed off!" then everytime you saw your sim get mad, they would say "god dammit, I'm so pissed off!" every time, or whatever other phrases were recorded. But intsead, we have "Rargenflaggenshoppada!" and our brains put in exactly what we feel they would be saying: we fill in the gaps, and make that same recording played in different scenarios have completely different meanings and emotions depending on the context. I think that having them speak "simlish" is honestly a wonderful thing. :) It makes the world more full, and real, via forcing you to use your imagination. At least that's my own view on it.
