Is a rig like Azmodan22's for TS4 impossible for TS3?

Recommended Posts

So basically the title. I've been wondering this for a while now. TS4's obviously got a nice thing going for it with animated physics. Makes it seem not so stiff. We've had animated breast physics for a while though.

But in TS3's case, I figure that if it could be done it would've by now. I don't mean that in a condescending way, I literally know nothing about how it works. But with only Passion receiving active development nowadays and no new developments in other areas for quite a while otherwise, it feels like the TS3 side of things has gotten as good as it will get, so to speak.

Spaceman had his rig and it did include animated physics, but required his personal accessory to utilize them, and apparently no one besides him ever made use of it. The most popular option is obviously Cmar's, but the trouble there I'd imagine is being morphable. Since the physics would require a fairly standard size, that seems to complicate things.

So is it basically not feasible at this point I guess is what I'm trying to discern?

I had to do some research to understand what you were talking about. I don't play the Sims 4 and you gave no links or references beyond Denton47.

So is this basically about bouncing boobs?

If so, the answer is no. There is nothing players can add to the game to change how EA default animations look in the Sims 3, without replacing animations. I would definitely enjoy a mod with several different 'sexy' walks like Skyrim has - or any of the 'jiggle' physics the Creation engine can handle. As far as stiff - yeah, I get ya.  Just recently watched some Sims 2 videos and couldn't help but notice the detail and 'natural' movements the Sims had in that older game.

If you're talking about something else - concerning bouncing boobs in player made animations - then yeah, I see that a lot in several of the sexual animations available. I'd like to say for myself - many are extreme and OVER animated - there's subtle bounce, and then there's slinging and flopping like somethings going to fly off or someone's going to hurt themselves......

Pretty Sure Clydie and Lucas will see this and add to the post - being they are the last 2 'active' animators contributing to the Sims 3 on LoversLab for the moment.

> I don't see the Sims 3 as dying. I see it as an older game with most of the default problems solved by players with an incredible amount of mods and scripting options which still gets new stuff long after EA stopped 'supporting' it with new stuff of their own. When the Sims 5 launches - lets see how long players keep supporting the Sims 4 . . . .  (while researching this post/Denton47 I learned about sound files for the Sims 4 and how they handled that - Jesus EA! Could they try any harder to screw the customers and force players to buy EVERYTHING?)

For Sims 3 players, I'll explain the sound thing in layman's terms. The Sims 3 used patches to add a lot of things to the base game, even if the players didn't buy EP/SP's. Apparently in the Sims 4 - EA has made a lot of those changes to only be found in purchasable content - So if an animator with 'pack A' used a sound file from that pack, then any player using that animation mod would need to also have 'pack A' to hear the sound.

>>>> Just saw the title edit - ugh. My post still stands, but I have no idea if it's even relevant - leaving it for archival purposes.

@landess Oops, yeah sorry about that. I forget that although this forum has a lot of info contained together, doesn't mean everyone plays the same stuff lol. I don't reaallly play TS4. I have the base game from buying it in 2015, more as a curiosity than anything.

So yeah, it's about that sort of thing. I should've mentioned that I'm also talking about the rigs that are being used for TS4's version of Passion or Kinky World, which is Wicked Whims, if the same could be done for TS3. We've had animated breast physics for a while, but nobody's been able to tackle penis physics in particular like they have for TS4. That's what I'm curious about. The animations we have for TS3 just don't have the same weight to them without it.

There's actually someone working on a real time physics mod for TS4 though. It's done completely through dll hooking. I wonder if that could be ported to TS3...

Also, I agree that Passion/KW animations are often overdone imo. Not just the physics, just the stylistic choices making them. No disrespect to the authors, it's just not what i prefer. TS4 animators make theirs seem like Sims are actually having sex, TS3's often look like they're being possessed with their tongues and whatnot sticking out every other frame. It's a tad too silly. Lucas and Clydie though take a much more natural approach which I do like.

penis physics

The closest I've seen is KW - given my limited use of various mods to this effect. It does support varying degrees of hardness tied to arousal - but there are also side effects not 'ironed out'

Using the Rockhard (viagra) drug works a bit like 'spanish fly' more than anything - although it's on a timer (2 hours iirc) and even if a sim is still engaged in coitus, when those 2 hours are up, they will still continue to have sex - with a limp dick????? Scripts are funny!

If one is looking to see flapping dicks when males do nude jumping jacks - I doubt that's a possibility....

I guess I'm not explaining it well. What I mean is the animations created specifically for Passion/KW have no physics applied to the penis itself. The rigs I keep talking about are what allow the individual parts, like the sack and shaft, to be moved by the animations instead of staying completely still during the entire animation. It's obviously not a huge deal, but it does make them seem more realistic. The same way that breasts already move during those animations.

All I'm wondering is of something like that could be created for TS3, even with so many having moved on (not me). I don't think it's impossible per se, but it certainly would take someone knowledgeable about that sort of thing. Even then, animators would have to specifically utilize it. And we only have 2 actively creating, so I'm not sure someone would want to bother if it's not going to get much use.

I understand your question and am wondering the same thing. It would be great if the S3 penis would be animated like the S4 penis!!!

My knowledge of animations is limited, however, I don't believe there is such an armature for TS3, as that would probably require a bone, which doesn't exist. I don't have TS4, so don't dig into the mechanics, but some side projects in sliders may explain the various stages of erection KW creates for Cmar's part... Her morph appears to be a geom based morph, which means she created a base mesh that is flaccid, and meshes for size of the shaft and sack, foreskin, and erection. KW, and I guess Passion taps the sliders and her script to create the erection and various in between.

EA added the breast slider in EP3 (I think), which IS a bone based slider, so there is something the animators can "grab hold of", and those points are in animator armatures.

As to the actual animations, some are good, some not so, some great! Early animations are just that, and the animators were blazing the trails for TS4 animators with regards to the fine details of eye, eyelid, lips, general facial expressions in the woohoo animations. That trail blazing can be seen in the new animations by @lucas1i and @Clydie, as they have picked up where the trail had previously ended and their new animations have all of those details.

I @ed them, as one or both may pop in to confirm or give a more accurate account of the TS3 armatures they use.

If I remember correctly, Spaceman - whom I mentioned in my initial post, used a certain bone from the standard EA body to make his rig work. You had to use his accessory for his animations, I guess so he'd have a standard length to work with vs the customizable nature of Cmar's. He said so himself in his description for his own animations when they were still hosted on the HoT.

It's been done previously, the question nowadays is how.

^ I probably would actually, but I think that ship has sailed unfortunately - fairly recently as well. I saw myself where he was becoming more active again especially here at LL. Apparently, he was never getting any appreciation for the framework and initial work to make things like AW/KW/Passion possible. So he's left, and is likely never coming back now.

He proved it could be done though. His animation work was solid. So if not him, surely someone could take a look into it and produce something similar.

If you say so. I try to avoid the drama side of things because people annoy me in general. But like seeing a kids face on Xmas morning - sometimes helping others has it's rewards. I don't do it for recognition as I find it awkward, but a polite 'thank you' is just being socially civil when help is not directed to the masses, but tailored to a specific individual.

Too bad he 'moved on' if this is the case - people do sometimes haunt without interacting. Besides - that PM will linger and be seen if/when he returns.....

Oh, those were his own words. Not my stance on his reason for leaving. I don't get in the middle of conflict either. Got enough of that floating around irl so I definitely don't need to start it online lol.

If anything was to come from this topic, I'd just be glad for the sake of the community. I don't fault SM really for wanting recognition for his work. Different people want different things from their hard work. But in the case of something like this thread, I think people working towards a particular goal serves everyone much better than just twiddling our thumbs for the next greatest thing to come along. So I get what you mean about helping others, as in with mod issues and stuff like this, being its own reward.

His account hasn't been deleted yet like he wanted, but he sounded pretty final about his stance. I could send him something, but tbh I'm not really sure what I should even ask or how to do it without sounding extremely tacky, like "Hey I know you left recently, but would you consider modding TS3 again?" Don't want it to sound like I'm downplaying your suggestion, I just feel anything I could write to him at this point would seem distasteful.

I find honesty is the best policy.

If one is thankful - show it. If one has a question - ask it. If one wants to share motivations - share them. If the recipient is a prick - nothing you do will change that.

If someone posted 'NEVER PM ME!' - that doesn't mean everyone saw it (unless it was added to every bit of correspondence) - so it's always possible to rub people the wrong way. IMO there are 3 things that can happen. One is ignored, one is educated, one is belittled.

Anyways it's up to you - it's your dime :P

Who knows, maybe it's the push to get one to return to active status? Life is funny and doesn't always follow our expectations.....

>> The fact you say he wanted his account deleted says something - If I quit using LL and NEVER returned - leaving my account or 'closing' it wouldn't change a single thing. My impression would be leaving like that is trying to make some 'statement' - like I'm taking my ball and going home type shit. But that's just me..... I've been wrong before and maybe his account was compromised somehow and deleting everything was the only way he would feel comfortable?

Unless one is with the FBI/CIA/NSA, everything one posts on the internet is officially written in stone for the lifetime of HTML.

Only Spaceman and SF I think used a different penis for their animations. This penis was a conversion from Sims 2 as far as I know.

You can find more info and the penis package in the passion thread. Third post and on somewhere. It is called peneer or similar.

This penis was somehow movable but had not the features as Cmars to modify thickness, length,  angle a.s.o.

The appearance is another point.

Most disturbing for people was/is the immense length of this penis. Once in time there must be a decision be made in terms of KW,

which penis mod should be supported. This decision obviously was made in favor of Cmars penis mod.

However, since the Spaceman animations looked great and show a good quality, Twilightstorm decided to implement the peneer penis

into passion -for the Spaceman (SM) animations only. If you want to see how it works and look like you need to setup a game with passion.

Then the penis switches to peneer on SM animations.

Anyway, this peneer Penis is not supported by KW, that is why SM animations look sometimes really odd in regard to the penis in KW.

(not really sure what looks more odd, the girls blowing the air or this thin looong penis  ? )

Think we have to live with that how it is (Cmar penis) since you surely need a movable penis (mod) to be handled by the main mod (KW and Passion).

To use a rig which allow the penis to be moved and implement it into an animation is not enough. At least some skilled person need to modify

Cmars penis package and made a rig. But doubt if this would be taken by Passion or KW without further modification.

There is no bone on the basic EA rig for that. Using an existing EA bone would mean whatever that bone was originally used for would be either dead, or move along with the penis. That's simply how bones work. If Spaceman had some rig with such a bone, he created it and probably never shared it. Don't know. And just like Cmar, such a custom set up would have been made to only work with his part.

impossible

Not impossible, but to be realistic

1. Who will do such  penis mod and the necessary roundabout implementation.

2. Only newly made animations would benefit then (the existing -more then- 1000 animations not)

The game is "old" not to say outdated and the community grow by far to small for such a essential modification.

I am afraid we are 10 years to late and be also sure that some excellent modders in the past had this idea already.

But because it came not true indicates to me that this whole thing is everything else but trivial.

Bingo!

Most of the people that looked inside the code and figured things out are long gone, what we have left is a lot of old tools and information so adding "modern" features to Sims 3 is not impossible but it would require a ton of effort compared to other games.

Oh yes! Most of those "Titans Gods" have long retired, and when looking at the latest updates, and aside from TSRW, most tools are more than 8 years, and some not updated since they were made more than 15 years ago... Ahhhhh... but they still work!!!

A few have seen the torch picked up. Smug Tomato continued the work begun by Cmomoney with TS3 Blender plug ins. A few people are working to update Twallan's mods at Nraas. TSRW is more about TS4, but still brings TS3 along for the ride.

Somehow I found this the most important thing concerning the Sims 3 as far as keeping the game 'relevant'. I more than appreciate ALL work done by creators - and keeping the NRaas stuff up to date and continued troubleshooting and tweaking of the options NRaas offers helps keep all other works 'on the same page'.

Reading so many players 'dumping' the new shiny Sims 4 and returning home (or trying out) the Sims 3 would mean keeping NRaas alive and well was a good choice. While many, many posts support the players notions that EA could have done so much more with the game - players have proved there was much more that could be squeezed out, and modern technology has helped tremendously.

For those familiar enough with general gaming, remember the 'CRYSIS crisis' - a game engine so advanced no one could run all it's features on the current PC's available at the time without going full Chernobyl. Machines now have no issues and that engine still looks amazing to this day. The Sims 3 was a bit like this....
