DarkChaoX Posted July 27, 2020 Share Posted July 27, 2020 Okay so. I need some serious help from experienced modders and could even appreciate personal messages if needed. While i have less than 254 plugins (thanks to merges), MO behaves like i have already reached the mod limit, meaning that the game will NOT load any of the plugins including any of the original DLCs. My game is VERY heavilly modded but carefully configured. If anyone could have a possible idea please let me know. I seriously need this help right now. To clarify, im always below the 254 limit (253 with the mods that CAN load normally still), and have reduced it before to 250 to test if same thing applies and it does). I cannot run ANY patches since enabling them cause the same issue and i have done all my merges using zEdit (zMerge) Removing some mods from Merges seem to help but i do not wanna remove any further mods as there should be no issue. I have literally tried everything in my knowledge, checked ini files, papyrus, removed and readded ENBs, making patches for a possible fix, running the Relinker included in zMerge, all to no avail. I feel like i hit a wall that shouldnt exist and i cannot for the life of me figure it out. There is no crash. Game loads without any mods and i get the notification that no plugins AT ALL are enabled (as mentioned not even the original dlcs). If i click new game, the game starts as if there are no mods and its all Vanilla. Reference count is at 600k so thats not an issue either. The load order that follows is the one that can still load. Enabling ANY mods (even basic armor or sword mods), will cause the issue be it a patch or anything at all. I am using Mod Organizer 2 but this should not be an issue either as i have tried switching profiles as well as reinstalling the entirety of Mod Organizer for it to work. Located them myself to make sure and had to make a new MO installation outside Program Files just to be sure its not an issue. Run as admin and all that jazz. When did this problem start? Was it 5 minutes after you discovered the wonderful world of merging or have you been merging stuff for some time? Looking at that LO it is difficult to spot anything but, just throwing some thoughts out there: To me if an esp is not being used, it is not in the LO, whether active or not. If you have done the merges correctly then the original esps do not need to be there. Check you aren't trying to load an original esp and a merge containing that same info. Also check that you have not got any needed patches inactive but are still trying to load the mods which need the patch. I'd remove all those inactive esps, make sure the game loaded and then add them back a few at a time. If the first lot causes the problem to appear then try a different bunch to be sure it is the number of mods and not a particular mod. In fact, first thing I'd do is remove all the merges whether active or inactive. Link to post

I have been merging for years actually and i have been pretty careful and have been testing stuff like crazy. This whole issue started like a week ago and i have been trying non stop to fix it. Im seriously out of options at this point. Remove the esps as in how? Delete them from the original files? They are innactive after all! Link to post

Remove them from the (virtual) Data folder. To be honest I'm impressed that your game runs at all. That load order is a complete clusterfuck. You have umpteen mods adding a ton of extra content (even more than I have); you have several lantern mods in addition to at least two lighting mods; lots of dragon mods; a ridiculous number of armour mods; and on and on. Meanwhile things which I would merge such as RSCO and its Usleep patch go unmerged. I don't use MO so I can't give any advice there. Link to post

There is no need to remove the inactive .esps. Double click the mod in the left pane of MO with .esp you don't want showing up in your LO. Click on the Optional .ESPs tab at the top of the window that opens, click on the .esp you don't want showing up in your LO, and then click the up arrow to move it from the bottom pane to the top one. Repeat that for all those mods. You can leave them checked in the left pane of MO ( because you'll need to so your merged .esp can access their assets ), and the .esps won't show up in your LO. If you ever delete your merge, and need that .esp again, simply reopen the mod, open that tab, and click the down arrow to move it back into the bottom pane. 1 Link to post

It seems there is another plugin limit that considers both enabled and disabled plugins (can't remember the exact number, 480? 600? something like that). T-lam Posted July 27, 2020 Share Posted July 27, 2020 MO starts even with more than 255 active esp, it might crash, but it starts. tested it. What hardware, Win are you using ? Might be a limit more Win/Hardware related. Just an idea what happens if you flag an esp to espfe with xedit ? This should not change the load order but might give a hint. Link to post

There may be MO voodoo involved here but some mods, e.g. XPMSE still do their thing with the esp inactive. Why would a merge require the the original esp? That would rather make the merge redundant would it not? I've currently got 3 or 4 follower merges in my game, each of 10 followers. The original esps are not in my Data folder. Link to post

There might be a limit to even disables esp files that only very heavily modded games would have an issue with Link to post

I gave both of you a thumb up and now if you say this, checking mods in SK screen list all mods also the deactivated ones. maybe killer can count them, as he touched the limit to get an exact number for mods. Finally can confirm myself the MO2 limit on the left panel no matter what the deactivated and activated plugins are seems to be arround 500 plugins. I have managed to significantly lower the number by making all merged plugin esps optional thus my game is now playing properly! Cant thank everyone in here enough! You all were amazing and if it werent for you guys i wouldnt have ever been able to find this out. From the bottom of my heart i thank you all! Link to post

It's because, much like a texture mod, XPMSE over writes base files ( in this case, skeleton files ). You don't need an .esp active to do that. It doesn't require the original .esps. It's just that with MO, there is no reason to remove them. You can simply follow the step I listed above and the game will not "see" or load them. And they are still there in case you later decide to remove the merge. Link to post

I'm always amazed at the faith you MO users have in MO. I've been using Vortex, which as you know is also by Tannin, for 3 or 4 months now and if I wasn't so lazy I'd go back to NMM tomorrow. Vortex brings nothing for me except a cart load of annoyances and I wouldn't trust it as far as I could throw it. Link to post

Vortex was made by Tannin, but he was hired by NexusMods to do it, and they had oversight into what he could and couldn't do. MO has far more functionality when it comes to what the user actually wants to accomplish in modding their game to their liking from everything I've seen. To most of us, the control MO offers > auto loot with every install. Link to post

I never said Tannin wasn't proud of his work. I'm saying he was told to leave out much of the functionality that makes MO so popular in the first place for ease of use that the Nexus team wanted.
