MediaFire

Fair enough, - but anything I place on our server on behalf on anyone goes on the server sans password, unless the modder or maintainer feel that they have a damn good reason for having it password protected. - I have just had so many problems with password protected files, including ones where the password was provided somewhere ...provided you were prepared to read or translate several pages of katakana or cyrillic. Also, obscure archive formats (eg: .ace and, other, proprietary formats) can be monumental pain in the proverbial if WinRAR or 7zip won't open them and if another, purchase only, application is required to open them.

Of course if you hosted any files on your system it would be according to what rules you set out. The statement is basically because Mediafire has to be searching some of those files that they are deleting. How else can a random name be deleted for violation of terms and such? If anybody used your generious offer of course password protection, and such would be totally un-necessary. These are only mods, not some secreat play to take over the planet..... Speaking of which.. where did I put that file.. :D.

Anyway. As Gregatit stated, now LL has file capability of 100mb and the ability to take multipart rar and zips now. So size and hosting mods here isn't a problem. There is no reason to have password protected files etc.

Again. My comments were only directed for those that deal with sites that agressivly search out and delete files for violation of terms, or need ot host and distribute plans to take over the planet. Those plans need to be very secured and encription is the only way.. :D..

Well I have just had the good news that the broadband service, for my intended new location, is going to be about as fast as the sales of re-release copies of It Came From Outer Space ...so I will be going with private torrents (encrypted, naturally) from now on, by the looks of things, as it currently takes (with a good broadband service) 3+ hours just to upload a 1Gb file to our server ...and thanks for the links, too, ...but where's TES Alliance's FCOM Convergence link? :) Also, while on the the subject of files, encryption, etc. it is possible to grab Steam mods and use them without Steam. - Take the nonsense file(s) from the userdata -> ugc directory (after subscribing to the required mods through Steam, and after allowing your Steam client to download them) and then edit the header using an ASCII editor (eg: Notepad ++). Finally rename the file extension according to what is displayed in the header details ...and, voila!, you should have either an .esp, .esm, or .bsa (apparently, in Skyrim, a .bsa file can contain the .esm or be used without an .esm). I have yet to find any Steam mods with multiple files (eg: Data files with .esp, .bsa, or .esm).

Folks,

The first sign of this was banning files and issuing strikes to anyone who had a file with the letters "sex" in them.

if it was just this i would be like "awesome!" because for some reason i get super annoyed by half the mods having the word sexlab in their title.

at the end of the day, never been a fan of mediafire though, so, not surprised by this at all.

Damn, back in the day I regularly found myself looking for mediafire's links to download stuff because of it's dependability. Figures they'd go bust when they hopped on the "premium" wagon with all the rest of the greedy fucks.

Cryin' shame, still.

All right, the fucking thing about outfits such as RemoveYourContent is that they deploy bots to scour Mediafail and flag anything that is even remotely IP infringing (goddamn, even for just a filename!), like they set your house on fire just to kill a roach.

For example, a couple of Counterstrike skins that were flagged as infringing without even examining its contents, which proves that the DMCA filer uses bots.

Checked who owned the name to the adult site in question by running a whois, which led to some entity called Wz Communications; Googling the name then led to me reading this here:

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r22496788-FTC-Shutters-N-Calif-Hosting-Firm-for-Botnets-Kiddie-Porn

So, it's fucking not funny when a criminal organization uses an IP enforcement firm to kill your mod files.

It's a thing of today. If a site, be it file hosting or pornography does too well, some rival will hire a group who with proxies and what not put illegal content on your service, until some authority shuts you down.

The only site I really don't like for file uploading is Rapid Gator. They have this system where if you do not type in the captcha within 60 seconds, you get a 1-hour ban. Then if you are slow or only grabbed a cup of coffee while waiting again, you get a 24-hour ban. It's their way to keep you staring at the countdown timer, until you go nuts and get a premium membership.

Might as well just leave Media-under-fire alone. It seems like it's going to go downhill, fast. My guess is that things get much worse. Yay 4shared.

It's getting crudder everyday with a lot of ads stuck onto it, that suddenly Kim Dotcom sounds like a more reasonable guy. Been using Mega and 4shared ever since.

Those are my 2 places too. 4shared for a long time, MEGA when Mediafire went south. Was gonna go Mediafire, but then...you know.

MEGA is pretty great, tbh.

Just checked the files I have uploaded there.  'Sexy' 'Boobs' etc. is in almost all of the file names.  I'm leaving them there.  WTF are they gonna do?  BAN ME?  It's not like there aren't other storage sites and I have copies of everything I have uploaded at MediaFire anyway.  I'm bullet proof against anything they THINK they can do.   :P NYAH!  :P

Use an adblocker for your browser (but do please whitelist LL as a gesture of generosity). Also tell the author of that mod to upload elsewhere because Mediafail is still FAIL.

Ditto for some other filehosters who also plaster tons of ads (which of course can be hijacked by Bitcoin nuts seeking for a quick buck).

I use mediafire. Then again the stuff I've uploaded isn't against the terms of service. Or is it? Just abbreviate the archive so it's not suspicious. Anyways, I opened a new MEGA account and hopefully this time I won't get blocked from uploading or sharing work again. The free 50GB is nice and serves great for those who upload a lot of stuff. Not so much for me, but I'll take it.

If anyone is interested, I just ran across OBOOM.  It looks promising.

I agree :D. ...

. however

Incompatible with these Ts&Cs are, in particular, files/content/information that contain malicious software of any kind, such as computer viruses, infringe upon patent, trademark or copyrights, i.e. intellectual property rights, that violate human dignity (by depicting dying or physically or mentally ill human beings), that have pornographic content, in particular depicting children or young persons and/or misuse of animals, that play-down violence, incite people, are racist, glorify violence and/or war, support terrorism, contain depictions that play-down violence, deny, play-down or even glorify national socialism, that obviously prevent or impair the development of children and/or young persons to become responsible personalities or to seriously jeopardize such development, that contain insults, libel or defamation, that contain private or personal data without consent of the affected individual or without statutory authorization, as well as any information that contains hate/slander/malice/contempt regarding parts of the population and/or groups and, as such, attack human dignity.

It would be interesting to see their interpretation of that that is in yellow.

A bit more expensive for those that want more than 50 gigs however.. currently Unlimited download traffic and High speed downloads.. No cap. that is better than Dropbox.. If someone gets the Year subscription it is 29.99 euros / 40.99 USD.. substantial savings over dropbox for 500 gigs. Smaller than dropbox yes but still a pretty large size for that price.

Funny that I downloaded a XXX comic there.  :D

They can SAY anything they like in their TOS, but how will they enforce it?  At this point, anything is better than MediaFire and I didn't get one redirect or pop-up on OBOOM.  I followed a link, clicked download and IT DOWNLOADED.  I was shocked.

Not so much a shock to me.

If you check the Swiss data privacy laws they are pretty steep at least compared to US. They just can't snoop or copy or whatever other data carriers do. (US providers regularly investigate and search the data hosted on their sites ).  So unless someone complains or sends in a TOS to them that it violates their rules they pretty much don't know what is going on. US gov cries when it sees this level of privacy. It believes a need to see everything when they need ( actually just curious or wants to).. instead of actually investigating and following normal detective work. (Silk road was broken simply by good ol' detective work and investigation.. that was an TOR network ;)..)

Also I don't think they have concern with just Pron.. I think it is the generally illegal or socially damaging materials. Swiss are generally accepting of various aspects of life and easy going socially. I doubt they are concerned with some boobies or a dirty video (or mod in our cases).. even if they were aware or made aware of the material being hosted there. Unless it is "harmful to society" I believe they will just let it be. At least currently. That and the price.. it is pretty hard to beat and does look quite good.
