I'm not sure which I find worse; their choice of files to remove or their apparent reasoning for doing so.

EDIT: I just got ninja'd seven minutes early. That'll teach me to leave the room before making sure I actually clicked the button.

Don't worry, zippy. We'll call it a joint effort.

Sorry, mine was more reactionary than intending to cause trouble.

On topic. That sucks, I dislike that a lot of the file sharing sites require a sign up or make me fill out a captcha of some description anyway. I'm not sure what the purpose of it is.

I realize that it's possible that my original statement could be misinterpreted, so I want to clarify that my objection is based purely on the faulty logic presented by the filehost; I pass no judgment on the possible quality of the argument were it to be properly represented.

Ok guys and gals, Ashal (isn't he Wonderful!!!) has added 7zip multi-part archive support from .000 to .009, to the forum download section.

This means we can now host larger mods.  The 1GB max via the ten 100MB multi-part archive files should just about cover everything.

Cheers,

Greg

Good. Just as one of my accounts got a DMCA from some little whatever called (blank) IP from Texas for a crappy 3gp video clip I uploaded a long time ago.

(and I did a search -- turns out there's hundreds of these trying to angle for money -- and wow, there's a Counterstrike skin that was DMCA'd by the same outfit, although it's remotely related to an adult site: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1173114).

blank means this outfit also sends Texan lawyers who sound sleazy like villains straight out of a Grisham novel.

I see my private server farm here perhaps being approached in the near future, the offer is still on the table Ashal. So far 4Shared is doing fine and I have had no issues with them, but I am careful to upload content that is carefully chosen and appropriately named.

This is terrible news for us all. More people upload to Mediafire than any other upload provider I know of. There are about to be a shitload of mods that are suddenly unavailable. I liked downloading from there. It was fast and reliable. Now it's "broken".

Yay 4shared. :P Been using that for a long time. Sure am glad now.

Thanks Greg. This will probably save me from posting that the link's "broken" on [mod dl page here], and being yelled at and redirected here. :D

+1 street-cred

Mediafire always been like this =x ever since i started modding tera

Everyone with files named Uncensored had theyre work taken off from media

nothing seems to have changed =o

id say pay for premium =3

its only 5 $ and once u pay people gets direct link to your downloads without adds and u can allow friends to upload in dropfolder

i also have plenty of pervy stuff around and they never removed any of my files

just avoid using words like Sex, uncensored , cracked , hacked , full version .. etc etc

but i do have files with such names like my tera mods some are named uncensored which i should rename to be sure=o

Also since i stopped modding NV i also stopped playing it and so i packaged all sexout mods i was using into a big package

which is named Sex package and i never got in any problems

and i got some nude vids well most are on my website now but i didnt get me in trouble before

Because no matter what other share paltforms are all the same and are filled with adds and most even trojans and virus

4share is often broken or infested with bad files,

also i think u cannot put 7zip on 4shared not sure but its not in theyre List of supported extensions

they have the same rules has mediafire has well

Policy of the site

Service abuse.

If you receive an email with a subject Service abuse, it means that some of your files contain unlicensed copies of specific works, or you are engaged in unauthorized activities relating to copyrighted works. You must delete these files from your account as soon as you receive this notification.

Abusive files.

All pornographic material is marked as adult content and access to this material is not permitted on our site. We ban accounts that are created to distribute pornographic or other illegal material.

Copyright violation.

All the files which violate someone's copyright are deactivated.

i say just keep using media but be smart about how u name your stuff or go rename them now

has long has the name is good in description doesnt matter what the Zip file is called

so if u share nude mods well instead of writing sexlab/sexout  (name of mod)

just find something coherent with the file but that the name wouldnt trigger a red flag

they dont go threw all files 1 by 1 to look at them so has long its named properly =o they won't know

Contact me if you need storage for your mods; it costs me to offer this, but I would rather that than see a load of work being lost and modders "throwing in the towel" because of their shared hosting problems (yes, they can be suuuuch prima donnas :) ...but we won't go into that 'cause I'm a modder and craftsman / artist, too, and am likely to get a load of it in return if I do...

ohh i didnt think about passwording them =o great idea =3

Please don't, - password protecting files leads to archives being lost because the password is no longer available and corrupted archives. - Redacted names (eg: SFULogic, in place of Some F*cked-Up Logic), .rar in place of .7z or .zip (both of which are subject to the files being viewed without opening the archive), or multiple directory depth inside the archive (with directory names like test, or directory). Try to avoid archives within archives: this, too, leads to corrupted files [although a password-protected archive, with info.txt containing the password, all within a container (no compression) archive may work]; and for the love of whatever (roasted peanuts are good, but they make your breath smell), if you use a random alpha-numeric combination (hell, even if you don't :) ) please include some kind of readme file!!! - There is little worse than downloading a load of files and then having to CS or CK them to try and work out what they are.

Never had a corrupted file from password protected files. Had corrupted files from files within files though. Rare but have had that problem. AS for loosing the password, most threads here on LL are viewable for very long times even after they have been locked. The password besides the link to media fire would assure that both the password and the link is active together and one wouldn't get lost without the other one getting lost.

The suggestion was aimed at those that intend to use MedaFire. Not as a general practice normally. This is only to slow MediaFire down from deleting files which have been uploaded. Normally I wouldn't suggest password protecting these compressed files under normal circumstances. It makes it difficult to distribute and makes the users go extra steps to obtain and use the files. Not fun.

If personal security is needed for your own files use Truecrypt and create a "container" then you can do what mentioned above, containers inside of containers and heavy passwords etc. This however isn't a very efficient or valid way of distribution for public use. ONLY useful for personal use.

The other option is like Some Sick Wacko stated. Fine someone here that has an account that can distribute the files from. That might be a valid reason however those too have a tendency to dissappear. The best way is to upload those files here on LL where possible and perhaps bittorrent other files where not possible. (very large etc).

This thread was started last year, before LL had the ability to host large files, so there is nothing wrong with hosting stuff here anymore.  While this thread is largely irrelevant due to this, it is a good reminder to folks not to post their only copy of something to a sharing service as it can likely get deleted by "accident".   :P

Yes to Slam Dunk and gregathit.

We now can upload 100mb chunks of game goodness now. No real need to have external services hosting the files. An never upload the only copy.. really does that even need to be said.. well guess so... :D

However I don't see password protection as killing distribution.. Many times I have gotten password protected files for games through various sites. The OP places the password right besides the link. No loss, no problem. I copy it to a text file and drop it into a folder that holds the original files that are password protected. Or sometimes I even extracted the files and then repacked them. No problems.. Now I do agree it is a pain that is totally unnecessary for the most part because LL can host the files here now for the most part. I haven't seen a media fire file for a very long time.

Also now with the advent of Box and Dropbox and such one can host files there and then give links to someone if needed. Special editions, beta files etc. Also if the user has an account they can share the files. There are many choices for distribution even torrents. Which I believe SCR and Maternity files have that option now. Not really been adopted as a main way of distribution though.
