Animal Mansion 4??? (Dev Thread)

Aside UT2 another mod well worth waiting for, as for now there is almost none meaningfull mods from animal lovers. pheromones (but just to see animation from time to time), AFS is bugged as hell shaman iniciacion thou my most favorite scene in gaming in general. Im thinking about learning CK a bit. Maybe would do mildly simple wolf follower named Fenris which would slowly dominate dragonborn and made her his bitch. maybe pet addon for spouse? kids can have skeever why my les wife wouldnt want bear or wolf .:)

I wouldn't mind an introductory quest as long as it was very brief. But I have a problem with the two standard introductions (both of which are done to death):

- A note from the courier requires some excuse for someone to send a note to the player. I can't imagine why Thaena would send one, and she's basically the only person in the story (so far).

- A rumor from an innkeeper is viable but a bit of a stretch: the Mansion isn't even a place yet so what's the rumor? "Hey, there's a gal down in Falkreath starting up an inn"?

 

I've discussed this with a couple other people and my answer is the same: I'm fine with it, but considering that many people are just going to go straight to the Mansion anyways, or at the very least already know where it is, then I'm only interested if there's a cool idea and it's super easy to do.

For dogs, I'm giving the player a choice when they complete the unlock quest, then for the side quests probably about 75% gray mutt and 25% husky. Give or take. Or maybe I'll MCM-ify it. Or something else.

Trolls are late in the original AM story so they didn't get much attention. As I've mentioned before, I intend to make sure there are plenty of side quests.

You won't be forced into anything - there will always be a choice.

I never used the previous Animal Mansion, because it was overwriting some NPCs. I had gone into great lengths with various NPC mods to make them look nice, and now this was overwriting them back to some default looks just because it was adding factions to them or whatever.

It would be good if the NPCs could be left alone. Somehow ...

I want to put out an alpha next month. It will be a limited version: just the first few main quests and a couple of side quests, intended for testing to make sure what I'm doing works for other people and is as compatible as possible with mods I don't have. It will be about the underlying infrastructure: general mod features, animation availability checks, handling scenes, pulling in clients, blah blah blah, and not really about the quests themselves, but of course feedback of any kind is fine.

 

Assuming there's nothing terrible with it, that will mean the core functionality is done and I can go back to the actual content. The first official release will be when I have support up through the skeever quest. I'm not sure when that will be yet.

Is that an existing problem with AM/Plus? According to the mod description, it already shouldn't spawn creatures in homes or similar buildings...

Frankly i dont have an idea, AM isn't in my load order, w8ing for yours xD. But i noticed in other mods that interiors arent properly flagged, Breeding Rooms as example, when in tiny basement netch spawned.

I will be releasing an alpha version towards the end of this month. It will cover the events through the first three animals.

 

What it will have:

- The prologue quest

- The first animal quest (required to complete), male and female animals

- The second animal quest (required to complete), male and female animals

- The third animal quest (can be turned down), male animals only, and its associated repeatable quest

- Support for male characters (may need help completing some objectives), and followers (can be substituted for most objectives)

 

What it will probably also have:

- A repeatable quest for the first animal (works like the main quest) - pending some internal changes

 

What I will try to include:

- A repeatable quest for the second animal - the main quest isn't exactly repeatable

- A mechanism to start the repeatable quests besides using the console - I want to do something similar to Missives/Notice Board, but it's not high priority to do just yet

 

Requirements:

- SexLab, obviously

- Creature Framework (original or MNC rewrite)

- MNC

- MNC's Hentai Creatures - for variety

- HCoS - for animations

the only thing those animations have in common is that the female does not have a cum effect/setting applied to them.

no the female is actor1 in HCOS & MNC, so i'm sure it's the cum setting (or the lack of one)

Foxes        <for Foxes only. (this slot is added my MNCSLAL)

Almost. I'm in for an all-nighter and a day off from work tomorrow to finish this. Mistakes made, lessons learned, yadda yadda yadda, but I already knew that was going to be the case this time. Second version in a couple weeks should go a lot more smoothly.

Man, the extent of my knowledge of Papyrus is written in Ancient Egyptian. I'm fascinated by modding, and thought once that I'd like to try my hand at it, but I'm afraid there aren't enough years in front of my horse to make it worth anyone's while. I'm just happy to have  you guys around to make toys for us.

So much for "the first three animals". Truth is that I actually have the horse and wolf MQs nearly done, but had one major issue with the dog MQ/RQ and the Companions party RQ: I hated what I had designed. The dog sale grew far more complex than I should have allowed: the player + one or more followers + male and/or female followers + optional (spoiler) + multiple male and female dogs = tons of combinations of how everyone could interact. Pretty sure I bitched about this earlier. The Companions party was a similar story in that it was a male or female player + a single male or female follower + variation on whether the player knows the Companions' secret + variations based on the previous winner and loser = screen after screen of written dialogue with no end in sight.

 

Still haven't been able to resolve either problem in a way that actually feels satisfactory, so I said screw it and pulled everything out except the prologue quest. In exchange I move up the alpha timetables to be weekly instead of biweekly. To hit v0.2 I might end up simplifying the dog sale MQ, then factoring the optional (spoiler) out by creating a first RQ variation without it and another variation with. It's just so much duplication doing it that way, though. Need some sort of "supporting" quest system. Or object-oriented dialogue, with stuff like inheritance and all those other nice concepts that Papyrus also claims to support but only in some fantastical Lovecraftian sort of way.

 

I think I've slept about 12 hours in the past few days. And when did I eat last? Dammit. I could go for some sushi right now.

 

Anyway, work plan. The first post is updated and there's nothing unnecessarily cryptic in there. Next week will be the dog MQ and hiring an interior decorator to add spiderwebs and hide food and fiddle with the basement (which is highly WIP right now but you're not supposed to be able to access it yet anyway).

 

What is included in 0.1:

- The prologue quest (player meets Thaena, Bailey meats Thaena, etc).

- The style for how male players will work out. Supposedly: this quest is limited in what it can do so you can't really gauge the style just from this.

- The style for how followers will work out. Really wish the game could let me command a follower to interact with an NPC instead of attack them. RIP Bailey #17.

- A good portion of internals that I can't stop anyone from looking at. Quests, packages, code, blah blah blah.

- My embarrassing writing.

 

There are assorted branches: ...fuck... Yeah, no, can't summarize here, see the walkthrough below.

 

If anyone would like to test it, here are the points I'm specifically concerned about:

- Potential for conflict with other mods (probably none so far). Should go without saying that you cannot use this with AM, AMP, or AMR due to the Pauli exclusion principle.
- Sex objectives complete at the conclusion of a sex scene with the required partner. If the objective is for the player to have sex with Bailey then you must be in the scene with him.

- Sex scenes can be triggered by any means you have available (and objectives should complete). Objectives are based on SexLab events, not dialogue or popups.

- Saving and restarting Skyrim at awkward points during the quest. Like just before Bailey is supposed to get some action.

- That everything seems okay with Dengeir as the Jarl of Falkreath. This requires that the Civil War is completed in the Imperials' favor. Mod theoretically supports that changing while the quest is active but who the hell would want to go out of their way to find out?

 

Known issues:

- Bailey won't follow you through load doors. Haven't bothered to fix it. Cheat with the console: click him (or prid xx000D8E) and moveto player.

- Bailey's activation popup might not start scenes for you. Use anything else (Aroused Creatures, MatchMaker, whatever).

- When you come back to catch Thaena red-handed rocketed, she might be somewhere in the building that you can see. Let her move. Or follow her.

- Thaena says she doesn't have food or drink available even though *gestures broadly*. This will be handled during next week's interior decorating release.

- Players cannot "borrow" Bailey after the conclusion of the quest. I thought I implemented it but I must have forgotten a piece.

- Thaena's monologue is too long. Going to cut down some and probably move bits off into optional side topics.

- I don't play with visible quest objective markers so it's likely I forgot to set up a few. The descriptions should be enough to get by.

- Bailey doesn't have a visible aroused mesh (it's applied by Creature Framework correctly but not visible) - see this post for a fix

 

 

If you have any issues that feel like scripting problems (eg, Bailey's popup) then please post your Papyrus log. Or send it to me. I'll be looking at messages that say [AMX].

 

This mod is 100% certainly going to change over time in an incompatible way, and will 9001% not be compatible with v1.0.
Do not play this version "for real". Any save files depending on it WILL break in the future.

Installation:

1. Please use your normal load order. If you have an Animal Mansion mod, disable it.

2. If you can, try with your current save. By this I mean installing AMX and playing the prologue. It'll take you 10 minutes. Don't make any more saves.

If you had an AM mod then create a clean save - which isn't a perfect process but is damn well good enough for this.

3. And/or try with a new save. Personally, I used Live Another Life with the "camping in the woods" start (which puts you near Helgen).

 

Detailed walkthrough with a diminishing degree of precision as my brain begins to shut down:

  1. Go to Falkreath where you know the Mansion will be. (Right by the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary if you're new. There is no map marker, but there is a conspicuously large building.) Enter.
  2. Thaena will approach you. 3x branches for morning, afternoon, and evening greetings.
  3. Ask for something. 2x branches for food or bed.
  4. Ask WTF is going on if she has nothing to offer. 2x branches for Siddgeir or Dengeir as the Jarl.
  5. Talk to the Jarl. 2x branches.
  6. Find Thaena and Bailey. ??
  7. She'll force-greet you if she sees you, otherwise ask WTF.
  8. Suffer through the monologue. Yeah, it's too long. Looks shorter on paper.
  9. Tell her about yourself. 3x branches for how comfortable you are with animals, then 8x (experienced) or 7x (less so) or 1x (not) branches.
  10. Accept her offer (female) or don't (male/female). 3x branches by experience.
  11. ???
  12. Talk to her some more. 3x branches by experience if you accepted + 1x branch if not.
  13. Blow her mind.
  14. Offer to convince the Jarl yourself (female) or with a friend (male/female) about the idea.
  15. Tell Bailey to follow you.
  16. Talk to the Jarl. 2x branches.
  17. Demonstrate by yourself (female) or by asking a female follower (male/female).
  18. Check with the Jarl.
  19. Go back to Thaena.

So theoretically that's... 384 unique paths? Bounded by the experience bit so that's 16 tries to see every option. Don't bother.

I applaud you for going through with having so many different branches/paths that the player can go through. I had intended Confabulation to also have multiple dialogue paths with different outcomes, but for my own sanity I decided against it.

 

And working with papyrus makes me want to pull my hair out some days.

I have a throwaway profile that I abuse horribly with about a hundred mods in it. I'm just going to drop this in it and see if it bitches about anything. 

FWIW, I have a mod called 'CS Tag & Track' that's handy for moving stubborn folks (and Bailey) around. Beats having to keep track of base IDs.
