Nope. Not even kind of.

8 million people have modded Skyrim.

Skyrim sold 35 million copies.

4 Million people have modded Fallout 4

Fallout 4 sold 14 million copies.

Mods are not vital to the financial well being of either franchise, and since it's been proven that MTXs will make up continual sales for years, any revenue lost by players not picking it up will likely be covered by people buying MTXs as the console versions of CC have proven via parent's credit cards.

Mods provide aftermarket awareness and goodwill PR, they in no way shape or form make or break either franchise, not even close, not even kinda a little maybe could be shoulda woulda coulda.

People will complain for exactly two games and then slink off to a nostalgia wank discord pining for the good ol days just like NMA people do right now. Beth doesn't give a shit about them, and with them fully controlling modding and money thereof, they won't care about what people "used to do" back in the day.

Corporate gaming is moving to cloud based technology, and when it does modding is dead as a doornail aside from interception cheating and hacking.

There will be porn games to be sure, but you'll be paying for them every month, and you won't generating any content they don't want you to generate.

Let's wait and see. There aren't much reasons to be optimistic about modding Elder Scrolls VI in the likely new engine, but saying it will be impossible it's too soon for that. We have Bethesda knowing their fanbase and how messing with mods cause a negative uproar. They even allowed mods in the Playstation and Xbox this generation. As long as it keeps helping them sell the games, it can be a possibility. Even games like FIFA and Battlefield are having mods and they are heavily online oriented with a terrible engine to mod (Frostbite).

What's there to talk about? That it's in development? We knew that already, with reasonable certainty. Nothing else has been revealed except some generic landscape that could be from almost anywhere. You can also probably stick your finger to the wind and take a guess at some of the "changes" Bethesda plans to make by observing the pattern of design choices and direction that they're taking Fallout in - especially to facilitate paid mods.

I'm sure they're trying to differentiate Skyrim from Fallout a bit to avoid the "Oblivion with Guns" criticism they received with FO3/NV and to reduce the risk of customer burnout causing them to compete too heavily against their own various product lines... so it won't be the same shit-show 1:1, but you can get a feel for the path they're going down, and it's not a good one for fans of Bethesda's previous games.

Lets all just get our credit cards out and enjoy our Elder Scrolls Loot Clicker mobile "game" whale bait, I mean... "while we wait".

Skyrim wasn't a subscription game, so long as they get you playing long enough to fall outside of the return window, accounting only cares when you buy it, not how long you play it.

At best, users saying "I got more than 100 hours out of it" can be a form of organic advertising. Otherwise I seriously doubt the majority of their users play through Skyrim more than twice, and I doubt Bethesuda cares if you played 100 vs 1000 hours.

Skyrim had a fairly large casual audience, even with the old morrowind/oblivion people whining that the game was dumbed down at launch, it was still a financial success, and that was before DLC/Specials. They could dump modding and the community would make lots of noise, but I bet it would still sell well with their new casual audience not caring.

As for TES6 we know nothing. No release date, no specific area of the game, no gameplay. There wasn't even enough in the video to confirm new engine or not... I doubt this game will come out before 2020

i think they must make full Tamriel, but after crisis with Alduin. In Skyrim engine was x32 wich functionality  a limited. With x64 functionality  de facto is unlimited, so whole continent can be realesed. Truly, Bethesda can make sixth TES is epic of all time.

Hi all

So for those of you that have missed it and are as of yet unaware

Yup.

Now the only question is how mod / modder friendly or unfriendly will this be ? Will the CK be a "Club" only thing ? Will there actually be some SKSE type of functionality built into it this time around to avoid the issues of Special Edition ?

It could be Hammerfell.  That geography looks a lot like what I always imagined Hew's Bane to look like - rugged, almost volcanic, scattered green but very inhospitable.  Could also be the east coast of mainland Morrowind.

That said, it doesn't really concretely conform to anywhere I am aware of in lore...  Then again, I don't know what they did with Summerset in ESO.
