[HIATUS] Lazy's Morathi Ascension (STAGES + RESKINS) 0.10.0

About This File

Update (2023-11-22)

added major AI bonuses to Alith Anar, Malus, Teclis, and N'Kari while playing as Morathi to avoid breaking progression, so that the difficulty of progression is no longer trying to complete the missions in time before they get wiped out, but to defeat stronger foes. Still won't be new content for a while, but I'm open to balancing suggestions for if those mission factions still die out too fast or if they're now too hard.

Update (2023-11-02)

The story is currently incomplete, and I won't be modding WH3 again until a good DLC is released. I will also have to rework some of the earlier missions to be quest battles to avoid AI getting wiped out and breaking progression for some people (even though that's part of the challenge, having RNG of AI behavior decide it can be frustrating). Creating all the different missions and conditions is about 40 times more work than Miao's progression in terms of creation time, so it is sad to see that most would prefer something simpler and more robust. Due to amount of work, seeming lack of interest, and the low ratings, it is being placed in indefinite hiatus.

Gameplay progressive corruption and ascension of Morathi. Each stage mod is standalone and you don't need to have all of them loaded. If you don't have this progression framework, each stage mod will just be a graphical reskin, but with this mod they will also bring significant gameplay changes.

You can use the reskins by themselves, and also in combination with the progression system.

While Miao Ying and Katarin corruption mods are phenomenal in their own right, I think this one stands above those two: Not just in quality of reskin (Which this one is my favorite} I greatly enjoy the story it's telling, the options you have to affect the story, and the effects it'll have on your campaign. There's a lot of variables that may lead to things not fulfilling requirements, but when you're working with a game as huge as TW3 that's unavoidable, and I think the author is doing everything that they can to make this a good (and horny) mod.

TL:DR There's clearly a lot of work put in, both for story and skin. Give it a go.

While I understand the complaints in the two low reviews, it was an easy solve to simply grab one of the Revive Factions from Ruins type mods.  Blend with that the All Diplomatic Options mod and I've never had any problems with this mod, you can rebuild any faction you want.  Personally can't wait for more but I understand the draw of other things right now.

Lazy, you gotta get rid of the confederation and faction requirements or at least put in failsafes that are more than an aimless placeholder army. I don't know how many times a campaign has come to a grinding halt because Alith Anar got dumpstered 15 turns in, before the stage 0-1 steps were even completed. Killing him and all other lords in a quest battle (like the one for the Codex) should be the default mod behavior when the the parent faction is destroyed. Or, just default behavior period.

N'Kari famously gets bodied by the combined might of Eltharion, Alarielle, and Tyrion and we now have to hope and pray he survives long enough for us to make it to the later stages of the mod? Placing a forever-respawning AI army in Chrace when N'Kari is inevitably destroyed some 30 turns in is not a suitable failsafe. The army does not act, does not take ruined settlements, and even if it did, when a faction "emerges" it does not do so as a true faction. It does not take part in diplomacy and exists as a single ruined settlement for the rest of time.

There are numerous ways to hard block progression of an otherwise outstanding mod and no reliable way to do anything about it. Mod is in a half-baked state right now and I sincerely hope we see some more love for it.

I'd like to say the features of the mod is good, but I got no chance to experience it because Alith Anar gets eliminated by other factions too quickly.  There needs to be fail safes in place to prevent this mod from just being vanilla campaign.

My issue with this mod is that i one thing goes wrong, this mod turns into a race against time to complete another stage. You're stuck on a skaven army? Now go make an alliance with N'Kari and defeat Alith Anar within next 5 turns or you'll need to start new game. It's too dependent on how the AI will play another factions

Really good as far as core "content" goes. The only real malus in my book is that many of the advancement requirements are too specific and hinges on external factors (I personally prefer Miao's grand strategy- and submod-friendly advancement style). But that should not keep anyone here from trying out this mod.

The Good

Missions are alot more varied than others, the skills are nice, going sub/dom will let you do a certain build buffing not only Morathi but also those she confederate.

You end up with like 4 legendary lords by the end so that's always fun, though you won't be able to build high elf or slaanesh units without some other mods.

There's a decently coherent storyline and progression to it.

The Meh

The writing is what it is, nothing spectacular, nor the image sets.

The Bad

This is a confederation heavy mod, it'll have you taking in territories and units up and down the map, often pissing off people you never intended to fight at the moment.  Depending on your campaign difficulty, each confederation can end up draining your all your income and then some with the amount of armies and units that come in.  That and the additional territory liabilities make some of the confederations questionable especially if you're not ready for it.

Side note, you can confederate all 3 races from the start (via other mods) and experience all 3 mods at the same time if you really wish.

Malus is a DLC character as part of THE SHADOW & THE BLADE, you will need to own the dlc to confederate him. Purchasing the dlc after confederation may break the save, or in my case blue screen the computer.
