Aunt Melany (Most wonderful news)

Let’s start with a little background of his uncles and aunts so you would have a better insight into what is going on. (I mentioned them a few times in my earlier diaries). My Prince had two uncles and two aunts from his father’s side. Well, the oldest uncle passed away a few years ago. He was loved by all of us. The younger uncle is a vandal and criminal wanted by police who tricked my Prince and his father for a big sum of money and they aren’t in contact. He allegedly lives in the capital. Two aunts who are twins weren’t in contact with him and my Prince. The one who lives in our city decided to rather live as a homeless alcoholic who rejected our help (job, living place) telling my Prince to leave her alone because she doesn’t want to have anything with him. (She is mentally ill and she moved from the city my Prince's family lived before they moved to our city). My Prince told me that when she sees him and my Ivy on the streets, she immediately runs away. My Prince never met the second twin aunt, the one who left the country before he was born and when the civil war started. She went to live in the USA with her Muslim husband as a refugee. They have two children. Since he constantly beat her, she divorced him and married an American Italian. That was the last information my Prince’s father and Uncle had about her. She never contacted them afterward and never replied to their letters.

Today afternoon, when we were about to go home after work, my Prince got a video call from New York.

Aunt: Pardon me, young man, is your name “that and that”, and are you the son of my passed-away brother, germanicus?

Prince: Yes, I am.

Aunt (heavily sobbing): I am your aunt, Melany. We never met since I moved to the States before you were born …

Prince (with tears in his eyes): Nice to meet you, Aunt, Melany …. What can I do for you?

Aunt: Prince, my dear nephew, I know it passed a long time before I reached you, but believe me, I had a good reason why I couldn’t do it earlier …. If you let me meet you, I will explain all …

Prince: I would like to hear it … How did you find me?

Aunt: I found your cousin, Smilja on Facebook and she gave me your number…

Prince: I see, I do not object to it, but I wish she’d ask me first …

Aunt: Prince, I have noble intentions. I do not ask anything from you, only to meet me when I come to Croatia with my family after 30+ years. I want to meet you because you are my brother’s blood. Please, say, you will meet me, pleaaase ….

She heavily cried making my Prince cry too. He said they will meet when she comes. Then my Prince hung up for it was overwhelming for him. When he calmed down, we went home and he went to our home office and dug a box with pictures. Then he found a few pictures of his twin aunts when they were 16 years old (the pictures were his father’s inheritance). When he recognized her (she didn’t change much on her face) he started to cry again. My Ivy and I comforted him. We were happy he reconnected with the family members of his father’s side. Can’t wait to meet her and her family. My Prince called his cousin Smilja who apologized for forgetting how much privacy means to us and for giving his phone number to her without asking him first. But she promised she’ll do it next time. Our children were excited to hear they have relatives in the United States and couldn’t wait to meet them. If this is not the most wonderful news he received in the last several years, then I do not know what is.

I hope this will have a happy ending of family reunion.   Sometimes, separated family members become different (influenced by their environment that they have grown up in) with different values and cultural norms.  I hope she knows that (I suspect our Prince already knows that) and will have no expectation once the initial "honeymoon" is over.

Don't know if the term "honeymoon" is used in Croatia, but it generally refers to that initial feeling of hope and happiness at the beginning of a relationship.  Eventually, the relationship moves into a more realistic phase where hope meets reality.   Most of the time, it isn't bad, but sometimes it can be sad.

> You speak very wisely. I am convinced my Prince is very well "settled" in the reality of life.  30 years of living outside of the homeland isn't something one can ignore easily and I think he will approach the family reunion with caution. His heart was broken by his family members (death, denouncement, hostility, cheating, and similar) too many times that he will easily be naive.

> Yes, we use 'honeymoon' expressions, sometimes even for ideal romantic or various situations.

Coming back to places, that you left 30 years ago is very emotional.

Even under happy childhood circumstances, those memories can overwhelm you.

> Can't say I had that kind of feeling but I surely understand how aunt Melany felt.

Wow sounds rough but good news at least. I wonder if that was the same ladies Prince posted pictures of years ago on LL with his dad and mom along with himself his uncles and his friend Nick. Prince was so small back then in those pics I wonder how much different he looks now. I think his sister was in those pics a well it wasn't close shots of them. Only Prince, Nick and his dad had close up shots. And maybe one other I can't remember too well since more time passess making it even more difficult to remember. I think his other aunt running away is just traumatized and doesn't want to relive the pain when seeing Prince.  :heart:;)

> No, it wasn't the same lady my prince published. Besides publishing the picture of my Ivy, he published only the picture of his mom on LL. He doesn't know many people from his father's photo albums.

Ah I thought I remembered more than just his mother... oh well. ?‍♂️

I wonder if his vandal and criminal uncle has anything to do with it... Hopefully not otherwise we might just see Prince break a few bones. :grimace: :heart:;)

> You know, I was thinking the same: maybe it's her younger brother who made her stop to contact the family. He was a criminal since he was a child, and according to my Prince's father, he loved his twin sisters, but the younger brother didn't. That's what my Prince told me.

I just ran out of Like points. It could of been more than one picture of her with different hair styles. I wouldn't really be able to tell you anyways I just don't remember it was a long time ago. :heart:;)
