Regarding the republishing stuff, just uncheck the "immediately" box at the bottom of the edit section:

and the entry will keep its original publish date after editing. You can also enter any time and date you want in the publish time field if you want to backdate the last entry to when it was originally published for example.

At some point the forum started to default to having that box checked which is annoying.

Thanks. I thought I did try that, but probably not. At least I didn't know you could choose dates in the past.
