The ice cream place or Sick and unacceptable (Part two)

I worked yesterday and since it was still a heat wave, my luvs stayed home. We heard each other a few times over the phone and when I had a chance, I watched them over webcams playing with the children who also “helped” their grandpa and grandma in everyday activities such as watering the plants, and dusting, and cleaning. I love my parents’ approach to our children. They are teaching them to be responsible and diligent. My Prince and Ivy cooked lunch for all of us. It wasn’t actually cooking but making the cold fish salad and similar. Since my dad has to have something more “concrete” as he used to say, they fried (gilt poll), a sea fish in olive oil for him. (My dad taught my Prince earlier how to make it the way he likes). Anyway, I couldn’t wait to come home and be with them. Lidija made my Fran and me laughing saying:

- Something must be very wrong with me! I miss that annoying perverted witch, Ivy. But, Eva, don’t you dare to tell her that. She will certainly find a way to tease me about it.

So, I came home after work, took a quick shower, and had lunch with my loved ones. When the children took a nap, we had sex and we took a nap too. Then my luvs started to dress wanting to go to that ice-cream place we have been to yesterday to see if the manager put the sign as they told him to. They asked me if I want to join them, but since I expected drama and tension, I rather stayed home with the children. My Ivy was very thrilled that Antonio will join them too. She told him about the incident and he expressed a desire to join them. (For those who don’t know: just as I share everything with my Fran, my Ivy does the same with Antonio. We both have our best male friends). This is what my Ivy told me later when they returned with two boxes of ice cream for the children:

- When we arrived, Antonio was already there. Although he was sitting in the corner, the tables around him were unoccupied. (Antonio is a huge, strong man with a damaged face from the torturing in captivity during the civil war. It makes him very ugly and people are scared of him at the first sight). We approached him and after hugging my Prince, he kissed me and I sat on his lap. Some people were shocked and disgusted by the scene. Ha ha ha, fucking judgmental morons! Anyway, the sign was there, written on a white wooden board in bold black letters in 5 languages: Croatian, Italian, German, English, and French. You can see it from 100 meters. Ha ha ha. The manager was informed about our arrival and he approached our table shaking lightly. He was scared of Antonio who was disturbed by his saying:

- Whatever the three of you eat and drink is on the house, sir.

Antonio: What the fuck?! Are you implying we are crooks or mobs who came to take advantage of you?

The manager (sweating extremely and stuttering): Oh, no, sir. I apologize. Please, forgive me.

Antonio: You better … You were wise putting the sign as you are requested. If you didn’t, I would lock your place in a few minutes.

Then he told him who he is and how we are related. After that, he told him about his connections warning him that if he removes the sign or mistreat families with children giving pets an advantage over them, he will lock his place for good. The man promised he will not do that. He said that since he is only open during the summer season, he allowed the pet owners to put their pets on the table to please them so they will come again and that he can earn more money.

Then Prince said to the manager:

- Let me clarify something here: we are not against pets. As a matter of fact, they have a separate place in our Hotel bar and restaurant. We also have special rooms and apartments for pet owners in the Hotel. But, pets aren’t allowed to sit or climb on the tables in restaurant and bar. The highest place they can be is their owner’s lap at the table. I suggest you do the same. Take one corner and reserve it for guests with pets, so everyone can be satisfied. Our children like this place and we plan to come whenever we can. (Tapping manager’s shoulder) - So, you got yourself, new customers.

Ivy (to me): The man liked the idea and he said he will do it. Seeing Prince’s friendly face and hearing his friendly tone, the man stopped to shake and was more relaxed. So, since everything was settled, Antonio treated us with juices before departure. Then the man said:

- Ah, yes, you have two lovely children, right?

Prince: Yes, why do you ask?

The manager: What flavor do they like the best?

Prince: Chocolate and strawberries.

The manager: Wait here, I have something for them.

Ivy (to me): We told him that it isn’t necessary, but he left inside. Then he returned carrying two plastic boxes with ice cream saying:

- It was made a few hours ago. Please take it as a sign of my apology and respect.

Prince: Thank you, sir, but we can’t accept it. How much do we owe you?

The manager didn’t want to take the money at all. He also said that since we are his new regular customers, we have a permanent discount. We thanked him and left.

I was veeeeery proud of my Prince. He again showed maturity and a sense of making business and new friendships. There are reasonable people who are good in essence, but they need some “unusual” stimulation that makes them see. Mikey and Precious couldn’t wait to eat their ice cream. Since it was a special occasion, we let them have it before supper. They gladly shared it with us and my Prince made them laugh hard. Namely, as they moved the spoon closer to his mouth, he growled like a lion, and then, he suddenly took the whole spoon (plastic tea spoon) and their hand into his mouth chewing it and sucking it. My, the children were “scared” but they loooooved it very much. They laughed a lot and loud. Anyway, after the supper and putting them to sleep, Silvano arrived and we had our evening routine. When he left, we had sex and enjoyed in relaxing having cold beverages on our balcony. Yesterday was a good day, indeed.

We are going to have a family lunch today in the meadery my Prince took us last time. I am sure our parents would love the place and the meals since it is a place with genuine Italian dishes.

I always enjoy reading about your exploits, as it gives me a window into a real life level view of reality within your country.   A better understanding will undoubtedly help me in the future.    In this case, I saw things a bit different than other commenters.

OK, as you asked.    I hope our history of positive interactions will allow you to read this in the spirit of polite disagreement, and not one of personal attack on you or your family.

Essentially, your Prince used his power of the badge to impose his will upon the owner only after a staff member asked you to remove your kids from the table top.   A logical question to ask is: Would this situation resulted in the same outcome had the staff allow your children to remain on the table.

This is one of many police activities that have been under review here in the US.    One could make the argument that enforcement of sanitary codes should have happened the moment your Prince saw the violation and not after the confrontation over kids on the table had started.     Second, the permanent discount could be seen as graft, unless the store owner offers free or discounts to all new customers.

However, having read your posts about corruption within your country, this may be not unusual or even rise to the level of what you would consider corruption.   As always, we have different standards in every country, not better or worse, just different.   When in Rome and all that.

Definition of graft:

Graft is the personal gain or advantage earned by an individual at the expense of others as a result of the exploitation of the singular status of, or an influential relationship with, another who has a position of public trust or confidence. The advantage or gain is accrued without any exchange of legitimate compensatory services.

> I do appreciate your openness and honesty. I have no reason to be mad at you for stressing out your opinion, especially in such polite and cultural way. But let me justify my Prince:

1. Sanitary inspection in our country is mostly corrupted, slow in process and similar. We could use Antonio's connections, but they will financially punish him which may result in man's business collapse which he didn't want to happen before he warns him.

2. My Prince rarely used his badge. He used it now to show the man that he isn't a mob or similar. He just called upon the higher power which in this country is necessary because of corruption in this country. If he didn't show the badge the manager and his stuff most probably wouldn't take him seriously. It will be authority abuse if he showed it before my Ivy talked to the manager. That's how people see it in our country.

3. By putting our son to sit on the table, he showed his protest, Trust me, he did the best thing that came to his mind at that moment for he reacts on such things more aggressively and directly (without using his badge). The dog owners were lucky he didn't throw their dog over the fence. I do not approve it, but this is what he is and he tries hard to control his rage.

4. I wish you would find a good in him. As ultimate Hotel manager, he could forbid having guests with pets in the Hotel. But he didn't. Thanks to him, he organized all the best for them although he doesn't like dogs. :)

5. It is a common practice in our country to give a discount to permanent or regular guests, friends, business partners and family members. That's what we are doing in the Hotel too. My prince would never take a bribe or graft. NEVER! He is most honest man I ever seen. if you followed my diaries regularly, you'd notice that he hates such things and he fights against it.

6. At the end, our country is so fucking corrupted that if you do not learn "how to swim against the stream", the system will chew you up and spit. Believe me when I said: there is no single governmental office, industry or business branch in our country that isn't corrupted in some way. Our rivals in private sectors are too, but we do not follow their practice thanks to dad Boss and my Prince.

I noticed you are using proud of instead of proud at.  So now I'm very proud of you for doing so. ;) It's good to see the manager being reasonable. :);)

Thanks for the clarification.  As I mentioned, I didn't want to appear as being overly negative.   I dislike abuse of power, especially by police, so I have that in common with your Prince.  Where we differ is the use of our power, though that is likely because our process, while slow as well, do generally work for the good of the public and can be counted on to act.   As you said, your country is still dealing with (from a liberal democracy view) questionable practices put in place by  Pres. Tuđman

We have corruption as well, though it has be to be either protected at a very high political level (meaning someone will have to be the sacrifice, to save the several who are guilty) or well hidden from public view.

As for finding good in him, I think the translation is a bit off as I never condemned him.  While I think we would likely share many of the same beliefs, the environment we exist in is different enough to warrant different approaches.

As for the suggestion of graft, since you have said that is a common practice, then it would not be graft at all, as all get that benefit regardless of social rank.

In the end, I would have to say that you have a semi charmed kind of life that works for you.

> The corruption in our country is legal. Yes, legal. Everyone knows about it, everyone speaks about it, the newspaper writes about it, social medias talks about it, but no one gives a shit unless the politicians needs to find sacrificial lamb pretending they upholding the law.

> I do love my life with my Prince and Ivy and I wouldn't change it at all. Not even the smallest thing and if I and them will live in after this life, we'll be together. :)

A volte le persone fanno cose senza senso per soldi. Sono contento che quest'uomo si sia reso conto del suo errore.
