Little manipulators

It isn’t easy to be a parent especially if you have more than one child and if your upbringing clashes with your partners’ upbringing. No, we didn’t argue regardless of opposite opinions. It was funny as it was serious. Here is what happened last two nights. I will write our children’s sayings grammatically corrected so that I don’t have to explain to you what did they say. (I’m sure that all of you know how little children speaks).

We always keep their and our doors open when we go to sleep. We were sleeping when Mikey’s “daaadyyyyy?” woke us up.

Prince: Yes, son?

Mikey: May I come to your bed?

Prince: No.

Mikey: Why?

Prince: You have your own, Mikey.

(short silence)

Mikey: Daddy ….. please, let me come.

Prince: Are you afraid of the dark or something?

Mikey: Nooooo…..

Prince: Then stay in your bed.

(short silence)

Mikey: Why can’t I come?

Prince: I told you why and if we take you, your sister might want to come too. We don’t have enough space in the bed for both of you.

(short silence)

Mikey: Daaaaaaddy?

Prince: No!

I whispered to my Prince to let him come saying that he surely has a reason why he wants to come to our bed. He asked my Ivy about her opinion and she said that we shouldn’t let him come. I didn’t stop to exhort them until they agreed to let him come.

Prince: All right, Mikey, you may come.

(Tap tap tap tap – Mikey’s footsteps to our bedroom)

My Ivy quickly dressed up some t-shirt for she sleeps only in her panties like my Prince in his underwear. He jumped on our bed and smiling widely he threw himself in his daddy’s arms. We showered him with kisses. He placed between my Ivy and him and he was very playful like little lion cub. When he finally calmed, he slept between them having his arms wrapped around my Prince’s neck. Very soon afterwards, Precious woke us up with cuddly: “Maaaammmaaaa?” She sounds different when she calls me and when she calls Ivy. This call was addressed to me.

Me: What is it, Precious?

Precious: Come.

Me: Is everything all right?

Precious (nervously): Coooome!

I went to her room and just as she saw me, she stretched her hands toward me. I picked her up into my arms and after I kissed her, she laid her head on my shoulder. I whispered to her ear how much I love her cuddling her back and just as I wanted to put her back to her bed, she protested sounding like a hurt cat. So, I took her to our bed. I laid her on my chest and she slept very soon. But My Prince and I couldn’t sleep. He often changes sleeping positions during the night and he couldn’t do it this time because of Mikey. I couldn’t sleep because Precious became heavier on my chest and I couldn’t breathe.

My Prince slowly and carefully took Mikey into his arms and he tried to take him to his bed. But, Mikey “felt” his intention. He produced some crying sound and my Prince returned him to the bed. Since he couldn’t sleep in our bed, my Prince went to the children room. Very soon Mikey started again:

- Daaaddyyyy?

Prince: Yes, Mikey?

Mikey: May I come to you?

Prince: I just tried to take you to your bed and you didn’t want to.

(short silence)

Mikey: Daddy …... I want to be with you.

Prince (sighing): All right, come.

Tap tap tap tap – Mikey went to his room and my Prince put him in the bed. I put Precious on my Prince’s place but she opened her eyes and seeing that her brother isn’t in the bed, she wanted me to take her to her bed. I did it and I returned to our bed. Very soon my Ivy and I missed my Prince and we called him:

- Honey?

Prince: What?

Me: Come to the bed.

Thud thud thud thud – My Prince walked to our room.

He entered into the bed and we took our sleeping position. Short time afterwards we heard Mikey:

- Daaaaddyyyyyy?

Prince: Yes, Mikey?

Mikey: May I come to your bed?

Prince (sharply): NO! You was and you asked for your bed. Now stay there!

(short silence)

Precious: Maaaammaaaa? (calling me)

Me: Yes, my love?

Precious: Come!

My luvs whispered to me not to let her in our bed. It was very hard for me to say:

- No, honey. Go to sleep.

Precious started to cry and she ignored my appeals to stop. My Ivy got enough of it and she was ready to spank her. My Prince deeply sighed and he went to the children’s room. He made order in few seconds and we didn’t hear the sound. I don’t know what he said or did to them but they stopped and we could sleep.

Last night just when we put our children to sleep, Mikey asked if he can join us later. My Prince refused it. We went to the bed and slept when Mikey’s “Daaaaddddyyyyy?” woke us up. When my Prince asked him: “What is it, son?”

Mikey: “I’m afraid.”

Prince: What are you afraid of?

(short silence)

Mikey: I don’t know.

My Ivy and I blasted in laughter because Mikey obviously lied to come to our bed.

Prince: What did we say about lying, Mikey?

(short silence)

Mikey: Lying is bad.

Prince: And?

Mikey: Nobody likes liars.

Mikey deeply sighed showing to us how desperately wanted to come to our bed. When Precious did the same scenario as yesterday my Prince said to me:

- You started this Princess; you must end it.

I went to children’s room and I tried to make them sleep and quiet but I was unsuccessful. They didn’t want listen to me. They cried and nagged. My Prince only appeared at the doorstep and them seeing his serious face stopped with drama acting. He kissed them, hugged me and we returned to our bed. On my surprise our children didn’t make a sound at all. I realized that I did mistake and my mom approved it saying that she made same mistake with me when I was their age. Once she and my dad took me to their bed, I wanted to be there every night. Children are very good manipulators, much better than adults. My, did I learn my lesson. Yes, sir, I did.

My parents were as simple to manipulate.

My grandparents were smarter and tricked me into a deal which gave me a good feeling about it but actually left them 100% in control of the situation. :classic_blush:

 Just one those nights. I read somewhere that instead of telling the kids what to do you ask for their help. I noticed it worked with my nephew Juju he just loves to help. I rephase what I want them to do with asking for their assistance it's the cutest thing ever and it warms my heart how helpful Juju wants to be. :) I use to favor him over his brother until I learned not to fall for the cuteness. I learned to be through with my explanation with them to the point where they feel like one of us and then they just talk my ear off. Still needs a little work but it's a step in the right direction it seems. My niece is not there yet till she is able to talk a little bit more clearly.   :);)

>LOL. I wish to know their "anti manipulation" formula. :) After this experience, I think I understand my Prince being weak on my Ivy and me. Our children have great manipulation teachers in their moms :D My mom said that I was brilliant in manipulation not only of her, but almost everyone. :)

>This is excellent example of motivating the children to be useful. I'm not contradicting you but I think it can't be applicable on this situation. You see, we have no Problem with them doing useful things around the house. Mikey loves to help and Precious follows him in everything. But, you've right about this: little weasels discovered our vulnerable spot: that we fall on their cuteness and they using it. My Ivy is the strongest and she doesn't let them manipulate her as much they does to my Prince and me who is the weakest. :)
