The Purge of Riften(9/)

enb_2019_12_07_20_22_07_03.jpg

Darkness and chaos beacons in Riften, but even in the worst some miracles may happen deep down in Temple of Arkay..

enb_2019_12_07_01_40_29_54.jpg

Voice: Cursed, and weakened by your own Matron, yet you are the one who can save this City..

enb_2019_12_07_01_41_05_10.jpg

Voice: Gwynolda...

enb_2019_12_04_23_18_00_54.jpg

Gwynolda: Where I am?

Voice: In the Temple of Mara before the tragedy..

enb_2019_12_04_23_17_34_58.jpg

Gwynolda: Another dream? Is that you Lady Dibella?

Voice: She forsake you, due your sins and failures til you get back to her favor...

enb_2019_12_04_23_17_08_65.jpg

Gwynolda: So who are you then? Why I am here?

Voice: Im Arkay, you cleansed my temple and restored some of my pressence here in Riften...

Gwynolda: Arkay...

enb_2019_12_04_23_19_10_97.jpg

Arkay: Look around and you realise why you are here. What do you see?

enb_2019_12_04_23_20_16_23.jpg

Gwynolda: Book of the divines, an letter and a lot of potions and healing scrolls..

Arkay: Read the Letter..

enb_2019_12_04_23_19_17_20.jpg

Dear Arthur,

I hope you're faring well. We haven't heard anything from you in the last few months. I suppose being in Maven Black-Briar's service is keeping you busy. The parishioners miss you and some of them brought over your favorite cakes to express gratitude for you treating their ailments. Of course we sent the pastries over to the orphanage, just as you would've done. The temple is doing all right. We might even gather enough money to fix the roof leaks this season. I pray for you every night, my boy. Stay safe and true to yourself. You have a good heart and I know the light of Mara will guide you through any trials. May the Divines watch over you,

Brother Maramal.

enb_2019_12_04_23_20_05_79.jpg

Gwynolda: I don't understand it, why are you showing this to me? Not much point to see letter from priest, I do not knew before they die or see the temple I never was in...

Arkay: It seems seeing the temple before "Her" deeds not motivate you at all, so tell me what would do it?

Gwynolda: Getting back to Lady Dibella's grace and taking revenge on my vampire Mother is my goal, I don't need motivation to destroy her enemies..

enb_2019_12_04_23_21_19_38.jpg

Arkay: Is that so? I can help in that goal Gwynolda.. While Dibella took back her power and blessings, you can hold our powers as vessel..

Gwynolda: As vessel?

Arkay: Yes you are Dibella's sybil, you functions as her divine avatar and can hold power as much she see fitting, but you can hold other's power as well..

Gwynolda: Interesting and what exactly you want from me?

enb_2019_12_04_23_21_25_74.jpg

Arkay: I want you to save this city from "Her", I remove Dibella's cursed scar on you and give you some power to crumble her plans.. Should be enough to save the city and destroy your mother..

Gwynolda: You gave power just like that?

Arkay: Situation is far more dire then you realise, this is only chance to save Skyrim from tragedy. and your chance to get back to Dibella..

Gwynolda: I do it..

enb_2019_12_04_23_25_38_25.jpg

Arkay: I name you temporaly the Harbringer of the Death God.... and you will purge Riften from all unholy undead..

enb_2019_12_04_23_25_27_65.jpg

Gwynolda: Quite fancy title you gave me, so what powers and blessings I can count on this holy quest?

enb_2019_12_04_23_24_37_06.jpg

Arkay: Remember the sword you slayed the Shade from the void?

Gwynolda: Yes, something whispered to take it and I did..

Arkay: Sword blessed by holy magic and can fatal to all undead, each strike of it undone any unholy magic and make them face vunerable.. Blade of my Champions.. it is crucial to strike her down with this sword..

enb_2019_12_04_23_24_29_43.jpg

Arkay: Your body suited to handle Dibella's powers and blessings, you not will be at your full potential, but enough to slay her and handle the situation..

enb_2019_12_04_23_24_20_40.jpg

Arkay: Unlike my Champions, you are not invincible to the undead, just deadly them, beware and do not underestimate them or they are your doom..

enb_2019_12_04_23_24_11_69.jpg

Arkay: Now wake up and use your holy magic, moment you use them, I can give my blessings..

enb_2019_12_07_01_41_30_35.jpg

The dream ended...

enb_2019_12_07_20_19_16_78.jpg

My body was full of pain, armour too heavy to move, I never had that much strain from magic...

enb_2019_12_07_20_19_36_12.jpg

In the end, despite all of those. I need all my will power and strenght to stand up and do what Arkay asked...

enb_2019_12_07_20_20_33_76.jpg

Gwynolda: Time to cast it and lets hope I don't faint..

enb_2019_12_07_01_43_49_61.jpg

Moment I casted my holy magic, something special happened like before it was potent and not exhausting... Compared the one I used against the shade..

enb_2019_12_07_01_43_59_13.jpg

My body got stronger, my armour was no longer heavy, my magicka returned and the burning scar of my face disappeared..

enb_2019_12_07_01_44_18_39.jpg

I was ready to do what I must, save the city from "her".. Purge all evil and unholy along with my mother and ger back to my Lady Dibella's grace..

enb_2019_12_07_01_45_49_29.jpg

Gwynolda: Time to leave this crypt.

enb_2019_12_07_01_45_38_91.jpg

Gwynolda: I have a city to Purge..

enb_2019_12_07_20_22_43_48.jpg

Something is very odd and strange..

enb_2019_12_07_20_26_04_04.jpg

My magic is weakened, Arkay pressence is returned.. how is this possible? Wait..

enb_2019_12_07_20_27_05_53.jpg

Gwynolda...., seems her pressence can conduct Arkay's power and serve as an shrine to distrupt undeads...

enb_2019_12_07_20_30_22_61.jpg

Months of corpses are wasted, so many cells filled up with material for an army, now can't raise up. Only my advanced ones remained.. no cannon fodder for the Imperator Magus, ohh well..

enb_2019_12_07_20_27_17_84.jpg

Plans changed, shades and others can handle Gauis, I need get Eliza to distract the new potential danger..

The End

Wow, very interesting you all connected all the events.
If I understand, Arthur is the priest that Devianna told us about?

And at the same time we've got here the same necromancer, that was dealt with previously?
Or am I completely confused?
Anyway, it's nice to see you publish something. Great job. ^_^

Thank you ?

I thought making a minor easter egg for him, since Devianna said she will reference the purge in one way ?, as little fun after the crossover.

But if you want, you can make Arthur someone else too, it can work both way, letter was mostly just Arkay's try on Gwynolda get emotional on it.

The Defiler was always supposed to have a face reveal in the previous chapter, but got scrapped, but yes she is the same person, in the crossover she refered the already revealed plans of killing Gauis and raising a city as undead, Gwynolda found already the writings about it..

Crossover in my case was more of a prechel for the purge, while in Devianna's case it was personality display for Trinn.

Yay! New chapter! ?

You know, your screenshots are so good and atmospheric that on the first one - even the cabbage looks sinister. That's real talent! ? (Seriously though, I loved every single scene in this entry. They are absolutely beautiful ? )

Tying in Arkay into the story is a rather clever idea and it fits really well with the threat that Alyssa poses for the city.  It is also interesting to see that Gwynolda seems to be slowly turning into a rather zealous paladin. She is overcome with the idea of gaining back Dibella's blessing and taking revenge on her mother. It doesn't look like Gwyn cares that much about the actual temple, the fallen priests or even the city itself. All of them are just annoying obstacles on her way. I'm curious if in the pursuit to gain the righteous power and get into Dibella's good graces, Gwynolda might lose some parts of her own humanity.  ?

In the meantime looks like Alyssa will be using Eliza to keep Gwyn occupied! That's evil and genius! Really looking forward to that particular meeting. And of course towards the upcoming battles (from what I understand, we are about to see how Gauis deals with Alyssa's minions and how Gwynolda purges the city ?).

Also - are Gwyn's eyes glowing with the divine energy on this screenshot? ?

P.S. I really liked the 'letter to Arthur' scene. It added a very cozy, day-to-day feel of the regular life in Riften. Not everything was about the corruption and the undead. People just lived their lives, had families, dealt with simple, mundane things (some of those people even ended up working for a certain dark-haired Necromancer  :classic_angel:). It served as a contrast with what is currently going on in the temple and all around it.

Wonderful work, Res!

Things are about to turn completely epic. Can't wait for more!?

Yep yep, that is indeed the same Arthur from Lady Trinn's story that used to serve in the temple. Events taking place in my Necromancer's Chronicles happen a few months prior to Resdayn's "Purge of Riften". So back then everyone is still alive and things are relatively well in the city. The meeting between Alyssa and Lady Trinn also took place some time before Alyssa coming to Riften. My and Res's stories kind of ended up being intertwined. ☺️

Thank you ❤️

Im glad you like the screenshots in the chapter, personally I think this is the least impressing one out of the purge storyline, I only like a few piece, skeleton one my fav. I chuckled a bit about the even the cabbage looks sinister, seems we have a new menacing evil hehe. ?

Alyssa's plans and acts pretty much a direct spit on Arkay's face, she got rid his pressence and raised corpses, killed priest and even made a cult, which also probably dead.. Yeah, she is pretty much on the bad side of him and lets be honest plans already a pretty big scale of apocalypse for Skyrim and the Empire, it can attract attention ?.

Arkay pretty much took the chance with Gwynolda, he gave her a sword and even tried convince her to help him and save the city, things got lucky with her, she may not the most compatible, but he can talk with her and assist her.

Well Gwynolda actually moment she found out something was in the temple first thing she did was cleanse the temple and kill the entity she meet, she already considers destorying the enemies of the Divines her duty. Yeah you heard what she thought of the city already, she kinda considers Riften to a garbage place, and yeah not really cares seeing the things before or who died there. Gwynolda was already on the route to do something against it.

She actually more zealous to get back Dibella's grace then she was already and we saw what she did in the prison before this ?, while she acknowledged her being failed Dibella and did bad things, it seems it gonna be a long way ahead.

It actually pretty logical even from her, her shades already realised Gwynolda has a revenge goal toward Eliza, and she actually undead in the city.. Perfect distraction for the biggest threat for her, while she can get away.

Yeah we gonna get a potentially Gwynolda vs Alyssa & Eliza and Gauis vs shades.

And indeed she is glowing and full of divine power on the pic. ?

That was the goal of the scene to show, how peaceful the city was even with its crime and corruption problem before Alyssa, also a minor easter egg and connection for our crossover ?

PS. While it was not hidden, not everyone recognised that Defiler of Death is Indeed Alyssa, just rewritten complety to a new better character. Supposed to reveal that later ?

Sou yuu koto da ! "So that's how it is" about your plans to get Gwynolda back in her challenger spot. To be honest, two divine interventions/Deus Ex Machina in a row does seem a bit pushy scenario-wise, as you're re-using twice a string which is supposed to be exceptional. Now, despite of that shortcut, it also means that Eliza and your Defiler of Death could respectively fight opponents of their size, so that will allow confrontations to be less one sided. Also, there was only one event described in this entry. Now technically, though that may not strike the eye, your english seemed to be improved, both in style and in grammar, with shorter sentences and less and less mistakes. Combined to your quite immersive screenarchery, that makes the entry a pleasant read. Good job ! :D

Malicia : « That Arkay Mister showed Gwynolda a letter, and it wasn't mine again ! That's very bad, 'cause she's starting to hear voices, so she needs expert advice badly, you see ? :fearful: »

Well in matters of "handling", Gauis seems well "armed" from my point of view. If she doesn't even fight him directly it's hard to see her chances of victory higher than zero.

She was nearing to lawful evil/lawful neutral, so she's not going to become a saint in the blink of an eye. But at the same time, that makes her rather interesting, as her reactions can be unpredictable.

Arkay is actually the only divine/deux ex machina in the story, since he actually helps and offer assitance for the hero, Dibella was more of if a cleric/paladin fails the aligment and loses all power scenario.

Difference is Arkay happened due the circumstances was good him to make steps, while as we saw Dibella one would happen eventually as Gwynolda went on her path, one is actually divine help and the other is just punishment.

Arkay could do these things anyway, as Gwynolda restored the temple and his pressence being there, only difference he can talk to Gwynolda(her being sybil), he already stated its not bring her as full potential, so its more or less a "shrine buff".

Challenger spot is questionable, since Gwynolda is still weaker then she arrived actually, its more of she can just damage those enemies now, but she is not true champion of Arkay, or even actually that compatible.

Yeah, now things are a bit brighter for the "hero" side haha. ?

Event wise, we have 2 events, Defiler getting a spit in her plans and Gwynolda getting back to action, potentially builds up the endgame of the purge.

Plot wise it revealed a few important things.

Not really seems she actually intended to fight directly, its an assassination, fodder and monsters distract him while shades secretly sneak attack.

Gauis can't use any massively destructive spells cause it would harm the city.

"Handling" was rather carefully planned, and she is very confident.

She just need focus on a more direct threat, seems Eliza just came handy.

Indeed, only thing happened due the curse and punishment she realised her path was wrong.

It just made Gwynolda even more zealous to get back on the goodside, her becoming saint aka the true lawful good is very long path.

Dibella's intervention was not a Deus ex machina in regard of some gift of power, but in regard of Gwynolda becoming aware she's walking the wrong slope.

It is somehow allowed by the circumstances indeed. Arkay substitute champion vs the strigol mother, coming soon ! :D

Well Dibella can't just allow someone who supposed represent her do all bad things, don't she?

Yeah, precisely in the next chapter actually haha, things planned down, now the question how would that end up.

She already confident she has enough toys to handle him.
