Adeltrude was beginning to earn enough to be able to eat just about enough. But before she can enter a bakery, she'd better not smell too much! 

Unfortunately, the doors of the latter remain closed to her. Even though she has enough money to buy bread, her reputation precedes her: everyone knows she's a prostitute.

Respectable people can't accept that, she knows that and in the end nothing has changed.

But it doesn't matter, she's going to keep going. Because despite what people think, it's still a job and for the first time in her life, she's earning money by doing it herself and not by begging.

Even if most people don't respect her, she respects herself and that's something she didn't have before! In the meantime, there are more and more customers, and not just young virgins!

And to make things even better, Adeltrude has realised that physical intimacy is something she really enjoys.... Really !

The sun rises one day at a time to herald a new day for Adeltrude

At the moment, she has no choice but to look for a little food here and there

However, she does enjoy a few little pleasures in life, and loves to splash around in the little pools of water near where she sleeps.

And when the night comes, she realises that word of mouth has had an effect, and a few young people shyly come to visit her for the first time... They don't stay shy for long, though, and neither does Adeltrude.

It all begins here, on the outskirts of a town, outside the ramparts where the farmers' fields are located. The year is 1014. It's a peaceful, quiet place, but like everywhere else, some people struggle to survive in the harshness of the times and end up becoming beggars.

Adeltrude has just turned 17 and she's one of them. Orphaned, she was brought up in a children's refuge, but once she reached a certain age, she could no longer stay there. She's been begging for 4 years now, but she can't make a living from it any more.

Everything is getting harder and harder, and she hardly eats anything any more.

She lives in a squalid place, in the open air, alone, and of course she has no money to pay for anything. 

But she's not about to give up - there's still one way out: prostitution. It's not necessarily what she would have chosen, but after all, any means are good enough to survive, you just have to take the plunge.

Clotaire is the son of a local farmer, not much older than Adeltrude, so he'll do. Adeltrude didn't have too much trouble convincing him and the young man had a few pennies in his pocket, not much but enough.

They're both a bit clumsy and awkward but it doesn't take a genius to pull it off either. Things take on a life of their own, and while Clotaire is delighted with the experience, which has been a great help to him, Adeltrude has also found it rather enjoyable once the first step has been taken. 

That's it, the machine is up and running, and Clotaire will be sure to tell the other young boys in the area about it. Let's hope they all want to take the plunge!
