PROBLEM: A character the quest needs is dead

You need to use console commands. To resurrect a dead NPC:

    go to UESP, search for the NPC and note down its RefID
	
	That's RefID - NOT BaseID.  No, no, no BaseID! 

    open your game, open console and type Prid #RefID, where #RefID is the number you wrote down. This will make your console "select" the NPC as a target for future commands.

    now type moveto player, making the NPC's dead body appear at your feet. This isn't strictly necessary but it'll allow you to immediately check whether the NPC has been revived and is functioning.

    now type recycleactor. This will "reset" the NPC to its default status (including inventory) and behavior.


PROBLEM: Pre-requisites

- Player must have completed College of Winterhold Quest Line.
- Player must be Arch-Mage.
- Player must have completed quest "Brelyna's Practice".
- Recommended: Be at least level 20 - high level dungeons ahead!

WALKTHROUGH

Talk to Brelyna at the College of Winterhold. You need to be at the College of Winterhold - not elsewhere in Skyrim.

Follow Brelyna to the Arch-Mage's quartes and there speak to Nirya.  Nirya explains there's a problem.

Watch a scene play out between Nirya, Faralda and Brelyna.

Talk to Brelyna, then head down to the Arcanaeum (College of Winterhold library) and talk to Urag gro-Shub.

Talk to Brelyna - get a kiss from her - talk to Brelyna again.

Head to High Gate Ruins near Dawnstar.  You'll meet Anska inside.  Talk to Anska and get the base game quest "A Scroll for Anska".

Fight through High Gate Ruins.  Find the book you are after.  

Talk to Brelyna about the book.  Then, talk to Anska about the book.

Find Anska's scroll - complete the base game quest "A Scroll for Anska".  

Anska gives you a unique reward, so don't be a dick about it.  You cannot talk to Brelyna again until you complete this.

Talk to Brelyna - Love scene - Talk to Brelyna again.

Head to Volskygge, west of Solitude.  Fight through Volskygge and get the second book.

When you get the book, talk to Brelyna and give it to her.

After you've finished up looting Volskygge, head back to Winterhold College.

Bring Brelyna with you to meet Nirya and Faralda in the Arch-Mage quarters.

Talk to Nirya.

Talk to Nirya again.

Talk to Faralda.

Talk to Brelyna.

Quest complete.

STAGE 10 - Brelyna, an apprentice at the College of Winterhold, seems to have a problem. I should find out what it is.

STAGE 20 - I need to talk to Nirya at the College of Winterhold and find out what has happened.

STAGE 30 - Breylana has cast a spell on Nirya and Faralda and the two are understandably upset. I should speak with Breylana about what she has done.

STAGE 40 - Urag gro-Shub, the librarian at the College of Winterhold, may have a book that will help break the spell Brelyna has cast.

STAGE 45 - Urag gro-Shub has given me a lead on a book by a Telvanni wizard that may explain a way to break Brelyna's spell. I should speak with Brelyna about this.

STAGE 50 - Brelyna is clearly so distraught that she has kissed me! I should talk to her about it.

STAGE 60 - Our journey to find the book begins at High Gate Ruins near Dawnstar. Brelyna and I should travel there and take a look.

STAGE 70 - I have met a mysterious stranger named Anska at High Gate Ruins. She is on a quest of her own to discover a scroll. We could team up and seek out the Telvanni book.

STAGE 80 - I have found the Telvanni spell book! I should show it to Brelyna and see if she can use it to break the spell she has placed on Nirya and Faralda back at the College.

STAGE 90 - Brelyna says the book is useless! But maybe this mysterious Anska knows something. She mentioned hearing about the book when we met. I should speak to her.

STAGE 100 - Anska told me the location of another book she has heard of. I should share this news with Brelyna.

STAGE 110 - Brelyna and I have made love. I should speak to her about this turn in our relationship.

STAGE 120 - Brelyna and I must now travel to the dangerous ruin Volskygge. Anska has told me it is west of Solitude. Hopefully we will have better luck.

STAGE 130 - We have found the correct book!  Now we can break Brelyna's spell. I should speak to Brelyna about this.

STAGE 140 - Brelyna and I must return to the College of Winterhold to meet Nirya and Faralda. There we can break the spell.

STAGE 150 - I should speak with Nirya at the College of Winterhold and see if the spell on her is broken.

STAGE 160 - I should speak with Faralda at the College of Winterhold and see if the spell on her is broken.

STAGE 170 - The spell has been broken. I should discuss with Brelyna that she needs to be more careful when practicing spells.

STAGE 200 - Shut down Quest, Mark Completed - completed romance

STAGE 300 - Shut down Quest, Mark Completed - declined romance
