Does patreon take down page that are popular ??

It takes down pages that feature incest or bestiality, some of them are back, because the creators have changed their game's name and will probably have to rework a couple of things.

Community Guidelines | PatreonLast updated: October 17, 2017We have zero tolerance when it comes to the glorification of sexual violence which includesbestiality, rape, and child exploitation (i.e., sexualized depiction of minors). This is true for illustrated, animated, or any other type of content.Patreon reserves the right to review and remove accounts that may violate this guideline. As a strong commitment to child safety, we will work with law enforcement whenever we come across child exploitation. We also do not allow other fringe sexual fetish content, such as incest, necrophilia,or fetish content that is hard to distinguish from non-consensual sex.

Careful about what you're saying. The guidelines are clear: "You can’t use Patreon to raise funds in order to produce pornographic material"

If this is the case does this mean patreon is no longer used for games of adult nature ?? looks like allot of shit been happening lately with adult content on the internet youtube banning any form of channels with adult content now patreon seem to go the sensor route. This does not bode well for anything as of late.

looks like that will bann about 99 % adult games currently on patreon.

Most games have these tags alone in there current game, incest

btw it seem to be hitting all authors:

New Patreon rules for Adult content!
Oct 19 at 10:46am
Dear friends!

From now on, all materials for adults will be provided only for my patrons! At the moment the page is being edited! All these changes are related to the new rules of the Patreon website! If I do not do this, my site may be banned by the site administration! Thank you for your understanding.

All posts with adult content, including posts that were released earlier, are now available only for patrons!

Patreon page is TEMPORARILY suspended. Already working on it together with Patreon stuff, no need to panic. I'll update with news ASAP

It looks like patreon suddenly became a bitch. complaining about stuff and create sudden site rule without warning it users before hand. looks like lewdlab twitter account was still operational.

If they warned before hand maybe allot of stuff could have been avoided. Anyway this is shitty way of conducting buisness with your own clients.

"We also require that all public content on your page be appropriate for all audiences."

I have noticed that many creators post sexually explicit images on their Patreon pages. I've got a couple of sexually explicit images posted on my own Patreon feed too, but I often wonder if someone at Patreon is going to have a problem with it.

Edit: I just marked the vast majority of my content as "patron only". I hope abiding by that rule is enough to ensure that Patreon continues to allow creators to publish harmless and enjoyable content for patrons.

I can imagine some "high level" pressures coming into play here:

On the one hand, with overpopulation pushing us towards tragic consequences, we (humans) need to find non-reproductive outlets for our sexualities. This is actually really important. (But not easy: because sexual attraction and preferences tend to be conflictingly diverse - biologically speaking: families only have a few parents and often do not last long enough, and long sexual=relationship-chains tend to get wiped out by diseases. Fantasy works different, of course, but even escapist fantasy relies on people's experiences.)

However:

We are also seeing people being hit by natural disasters - fires in California, hurricanes and flooding in Texas and Puerto Rico and Florida... And, generally speaking, most people were not prepared for any of that shit.

This will shift people's priorities and that includes how people feel about where money should be going.

"only" maybe a thousand-ish people have died so far, but it looks like hundreds of thousands of homes will need to be rebuilt (along with other problems needing fixed) and that is going to tend to suck the money out of other parts of our economy. Even Patreon is going to feel the pinch.

(Plus lots of people working to fix these problems are doing it for low or little pay - hopefully people are being fed adequately, but beyond that it is going to be lots of sweat and tears.)

So... basically ... it's a mess ...

((Hundreds of thousands of legit distressed families puts a lot of pressure on the people dealing with finances - and, among other things, tempers will tend to be short where funding priority decisions get made, and this will have been having ripple effects.))

Bruh.....we're here playing checkers and you're bringing out the 4d chess board. Nothing is going on, its just them clamping down on stuff they already warned ppl about. Keep shit tagged and keep shit clean. Dont put patreon in a difficult spot when some random fucko stumbles on a page and equates w/e shit you're up to to them and force them to bring out the banhammer.

As for loss of public stuff. Well they can just put those on public access areas where ppl can get them but not direct links on Patreon. They only promised to help creators allow their fans to support them, they didnt allow you to promote your content on their pages.

I still think some stuff they will 100% outright ban like the loli and necro stuff so thats still a no for them no matter how clean you keep your page.

I understand why they are doing this, but I think the execution was really bad.

  • Trying to stop child exploitation... I get it. While these games aren't real, i get it. Even LL has this rule.
  • Incest. I hate incest but WTF? Why is this a rule? The problem with incest is that it generally exploits children but that goes against child exploitation bullet above.
  • Rape. So physical violence is acceptable but sexual violence isn't? I get it, but I think this is slightly hypocritical. LOL you couldn't have game of thrones I guess LOL.
  • Bestiality. It's weird and I understand why this might freak some out.

I just see this as corporate interests getting in the way of the free flow of ideas. They should just create a NSFW section on patreon so they can keep the normal area clean. No idea why they would alienate so many people when they could please both sides.

I really hope people find a less prude site, Patreon is acting fucking ridiculous. Its fucking virtual 3D/2D Art! Its not like people are supporting projects to see some random dude fuck his sister...

Adult-Content is a huge fucking moneymaker for them and its not likey they need Ad-Revenue and thats why they need to get rid of Porn.

And it will take time until a new Place is found and people all moved over. That definitely wont help get us Updates faster...

Most Games are already stuck at Version 0.0X. There is really no completed Non-Asia Game out yet.

So it looks like it started:

SORRY! No more free public versions due to Patreon's new guidelines. You can google Katie's Corruption and try it out.

1.12 is available for "Video Game Addicts"!

So i guess now the pirate will have a great way of circumventing this.

Many patreon authors has taken down there free version in order to not upset so call patreon rule. i wonder if they now shoot themself in the foot because of this.

Does this also mean that these games are also no longer to be visible here due to paywall effect.

btw i thought this was about the game description not the game itself ?? if it the game itself then there days where numbert anyway.

i think patreon is playing here: taking stuff down with rape, incest etc.. yet i still see pages up with blackmail, mindcontroll and slaves.

Well... ok... we can stick with they are taking stuff down because it got to be too popular, or whatever...

(Though I still think annoyed people and short tempers had a part in this.)

I see a lot of game authors disappearing mostly because if their stuff has to be paturd only and placed under paywalls then how does patreon expect them to get any supporters if no one sees their shit and if no one sees them then they'll disappear and when they disappear so will another money maker for patreon. Only thing I see is there is going to be a lot of pirating going on now if everything goes patrud only. Also see patreon losing a lot of customers and any new ones are going to look at what's going on and go fuck that shit and they'll just go back to using the old ways for getting money.

I waiting to see just how bad patreon shoots themselves in their foot. I'm thinking their using a cannon to shoot their foot.

Patreon is only looking at the display of the page...not the content in game itself. The page can't have any mention of rape, incest, beastiality...ect and all adult content is required to be behind a paywall.

The events of the past 2 days have shaken the adult developer community here on Patreon.

To those who were unaware of the situation, I'll try to sum things up.

About 40 hours ago I've received some messages from you guys that other developers are getting suspended. My page followed soon after.

Patreon sent me an e-mail, along with the suspension, in which they told me that some of the publicly facing aspects of my page are not in line with their Community Guidelines, and they are happy to help to make it suitable again, offering guidance as they put it.

They did not mention anything about my game, nor did they seem interested in it, or any paid / Patron only content.
They did not ask me to change anything in the game itself, or in Patron only posts.

What they are concerned about is the publicly visible things.
In their community guidelines they specify a few topics, which has become known in the adult game dev community as the infamous 'Big 5.'

Those include, [loli, beastiality, necrophilia, rape and incest]

Now, incest is a borderline category. They mention Game of Thrones, which has incest in it, as being okay. So the content of the game is not affected, as long as it is Patreon only.
They asked me to remove the free version of my game from Patreon, as it contains incest, and potential non-consensual elements. (seems like mind control is not a good thing in their books)

I changed the things they asked for, and now the page is back up.

Getting a free version out somehow is in the works. I have to know more before I proceed with that.

What about the future?
Now, the most important thing is that the page is up and running again.
My priority is to bring you guys the content you are here for.

There are a lot of questions that are left unanswered. What is okay, what is not? What can I link to, to provide a demo/free version to people, among others.
I will ask Patreon these questions, and many more, as we adult game developers deserve to know what is allowed and what isn't, not just guess based on the community guidelines adult sections, which is shorter than this post.

Until I get my questions answered, I'm going to tread carefully with anything public. The Patron only content is going to remain the same.

In the meantime, I already thought of backup plans. Plans that will lead to great things. Once Episode 8 is out I can dedicate time to do these things.

Speaking of Episode 8.
The last 2 days was a total nightmare (pun not intended), and I imagine I'll have a lot of things to do still. I've been helping out the other adult devs, so they won't get hit like many of us did, and I'll continue to do so.
With that, Episode 8 development has suffered a bit of a setback.

Now, I had 2 options. Delay the game to early next month, or try to finish on time by cutting some content.

I decided to go make a 3rd option, and release the game this month, but delay the early access release 2 days to 29th, and the general release to 30th, and work day and night until release to be able to finish with all the content that was originally planned present in the game.

I apologize to the Elite tier patrons for this. And as an apology, I will work even more, and even harder next month, to be able to give those 2 days back to them, and release Episode 9 FIVE days earlier to them.

I think I'm right in thinking that most of you don't expect this from me. Your messages and support throughout this time was really helping out keeping everything together, and it felt great. But I feel like I owe you this.

Well, I made this post a little long, but I wanted to tell you guys the full story and let you know that this has only made Lewdlab and Dreams of Desire stronger!

So the new early acces release date is 29th, general release is 30th.

Thank you guys so much for your support, it really warmed my heart to see it!

- Dr Sin

Two things...

  1. My 1000th post!
  2. The Paywall thing... What am I missing, because I don't see any mention of a paywall. What Patreon is concerned about is publicly displayed material that might piss off sensitive people. Just don't display questionable material in public. You can TALK about it incest and such as it is behind a paywall. So what looks like what needs to happen is that the developers needs to have sites like /cough Lovers Lab to talk about the naughty bits of a game, and then link to the patreon to get the game itself. The "talking" just needs to shift to other platforms, or am I mistaken?

I don't think the changes to Patreon should force creators to place their content behind a paywall, but I guess users may have to pay $1 at bare minimum to view the patron-only feed. My solution is to update a separate Tumblr page, so that users may still receive news and updates for free. Currently, I am only creating mods, so it is easy enough to allow Loverslab to host the downloads for my creations - then I just leave links to the download my mods in a Tumblr post.

Patreon's rules forbids full nudity and rape for a very long time, sometimes creators receive messages about violations of Patreon's rules with demand to fix it within 24 hours. looks like they have tightened regulations but nothing new happening. my page on Patreon contains lots of nudity but i never was approached about that, maybe i just too small to be noticed  :D  on other side my game once was hidden on GameJolt because of complaint from Google.

sorry about my english - i'm not native speaker

I hate to rain on this parade, but cut Patreon some damn slack... When they were a small niche company four years ago they could still fly under the radar, but the site has exploded and now they have to make damn sure they comply with the relevant laws, get all their ducks in a row, their 'i's dotted and their 't's crossed, and whatever other proverbials you can think of...

The relevant federal laws they've clearly been alerted to are:

18 U.S.C. § 1466 - Engaging in the business of selling or transferring obscene matter; and

18 U.S.C. § 1470 - Transfer of obscene material to minors

And since Patreon is a California registered company, they're no doubt also required to comply with California Penal Code § 311.11 which covers depictions of obscenity that are drawn, computer generated, animated, video clips, or frames of video.

It's not a conspiracy, it's not paywalling, it's just a company trying to stay in business while some of their users are intent on creating some very borderline content (in the legal, not judgemental sense)... If some other site was committed to competing with Patreon for the sexual and fetish content market they wouldn't even register themselves in the U.S, but in some other (potentially dodgy) jurisdiction. And that would create a whole new set of privacy and trustworthiness problems.
