Newb Questions re HDT & UUNP

I've only just got back into Skyrim after a year or two away and I'm still trying to get my head around how UUNP and HDT are meant to work.

In my game, my female PC is using a UUNP mesh, I presume with the HDT system that came with Bodyslide. That all seems to be working reasonably well as I can use UUNP HDT armors on my PC.

For some reason, when I put a UUNP HDT armor on a female NPC, the mesh of the NPC "explodes" in seemingly every direction.

My understanding is that, except where a mod forces an NPC to use a separate body mesh, NPCs and the PC use the same mesh. So why would an armour work properly on the PC, but not the NPC?

Can anyone help me?

So HDT is working on your Character? No Problem? Do you use a Custom Race?

do you use a NPC Replacer that changes the Body of NPCs?

Can you post your Loadorder and Modlist?

Yes - HDT is working on my character. Boobs bouncing around like no one's business (I don't like the bounce, but that's an issue for another day)

Some mod-added NPC's have body replacers that mean they don't use the default body, but I'm having issues with NPC's that use the standard body.

Did you tried to reinstall XP32 skeleton and overwrite anything with it? And move the XPMSE to the end of your load order.

Your Framerate is not over 60?

If i remember right it was one of this two things that make this happen.

And just a advise, use Mod Organizer....for real...DO IT!

This is usually a problem with the armor mod, not the NPC.

You will notice the problem disappears with NPCs that have either 0 weight or 100 weight. For every other weight the mesh goes crazy. This has nothing to do with HDT. It is usually due to a edit error between the _0 and _1 weight meshes, and is encountered when adding or removing parts from the .nif file. You can probably reproduce the problem by setting your PC to a weight between 0 and 100.

For example, if you had an armor with a belt, pauldrons, leggings and chest piece and you proceeded to remove the belt, you'd have to remove it from both the _0 and _1 meshes for it to work. You could also inadvertently cause it by incorrectly ticking/unticking zaps when building the outfit. For intermediate weights, the game 'blends' the shape between the two meshes so when one piece is missing, the engine cannot work out the actual shape.

The best way to solve this would be to rebuild the meshes taking care to see that the zaps match on each side. And if the outfits don't have zaps, you would have to open the mesh in Nifskope and check both files.

I have good news (and less good news).

I swapped from using NMM to ModOrganiser and as a result of uninstalling/reinstalling everything, the problem now seems to have resolved itself.

The bad news though is that I can't properly report back as to what caused the issue, but I'd like to thank you all for your help.
