Writing a desciption for the race (optional: A backstory)

Haven't left yet... description ripped from Wowpedia

-The cunning goblins are small green creatures from the isle of Kezan. Their love of money, explosives, and technology leaves them to be a very dangerous race, both to their enemies and themselves. Most goblins have a neutral standpoint, preferring to sell their contraptions, knowledge and services to other races.-

Maybe some deviation of that if you can't think of anything else; and maybe set their skill bonuses accordingly... and if you end up making NPC's maybe they should be traders.

That's if you like the WoW Goblins.

i have a description in mind ... a bit similair but rather unique.

The beautiful thing about Goblins is that they are as adaptable as your own imagination. They exist in every tradition fantasy setting from literature to tabletop to video games. Literally from Tolkien to Gygax to Blizzard and well beyond. You can have them comical,  fun loving and mischievous or the greedy backstabbing underworld masterminds.  As far as Elder Scrolls lore, I don't know how deep Goblin story goes, but who is to say your Goblin race isn't just a off shoot of the common that has successfully crossbred or just simply focused on education and culture, therefore elevating themselves to a higher state then the common Goblin.  Nevermind thinking outside the box, throw the damn box out.  You get as original as you want. You want the race to be socially split where the males are the wheeler dealers who survive on pimping their females? Fuck it why not? Want the Females to be the real brains behind the society and rule through intellect, wit and seduction? Sold!

Fuck similar dude... do your own thing.

Okay... here's 5 presets, in custom size as well as non-edited body scales in case something goes wrong or you want to customize their scales yourself. @shidoni: You should test them out in-game and see whether you like them... because I know full well that you'll want to edit them to your liking, I kept them as close to vanilla as possible (no eye/hair mods)

Some backstory to the goblins as a race:

Marcus Vudulius, Explorer in service of Emperor Titus Mede I

"It has been three days already since our departure from Bruma, me and my crew have been making little or no progress on the rumors of these 'short greenskins'. The scouts we sent ahead to the ruins of Mzinchaleft have yet to return to our camp, probably to test my already limited patience. If His Highness wouldn't be so obsessed with documenting everything within the empire, i would still be behind the safe wall in the imperial city!"

Tirdas of second seed.

"A thousand curses upon the jarl's name! Why does he keep sending me threats to get of his land? Does he fear the prying eyes of The Empire, or does he have something to hide? No matter, we are going to find out soon enough. Our scouts returned without Willem, died after he activated some defenses. The weakling couldn't even tie his boots if that was asked of him, but he had his uses. The expedition will set course to Markarth tomorrow."

Middas of second seed.

"Markarth, city of stone. More like city of wenches, our mage was already harrased by some common plebs from the moment we set foot in the city. The jarl was as expected, a thorn in my side and a constant distraction! When questioned about "green shorties" he'd simply tell some children's tale about "deepest dwellers". How can a warning to stay out of the ruins beneath markarth sound so very inviting?

The locals all keep claiming the same thing... "deepest dwellers" that steal things from them at night. Who the hell steals spoons? Spoons! Do these beggars have anything else but spoons and bad mead? The tavern is atleast warm, in contrary to the rest of the city.

Evening of Middas of second seed.

"Some local beggar told me about what he called "long-ears", that he saw one of these things sneak around at night near the broken dwemer pipes. Might be worth exploring tonight, but no one else may know of this. These nords are way too loud for their own good, might scare these creatures away.

Night of middas of second seed.

"I took my assistant with me, perhaps i should get him replaced. He's clumsy and utterly useless, but he is family. Aunty Valentina even made a leather set of greaves for him... how thoughtfull of her. Sad she didn't give him another loincloth, because he might soil them tonight in those ruins. Gods abandoned me! A guard near the pipes makes exploration impossible. We have to wait untill tomorrow untill that guard leaves his post!

Why even post a guard near those pipes? I'll question the jarl about this! You can't hide the truth from me... not now.. not ever!"

More soon

Tudas of second seed.

"What does the jarl mean "insulted his hospitality"? I merely accused him of lying to me. The guards next to me are escorting me to their jail... or was it a mine?

Tulius Vudulius, Assistent explorer in service to Emperor Titus Mede I

"My cousin has been imprisoned and i'm in charge of the expedition... Talos have mercy. At the bright side, the jarl invited me to dinner to discus something. He's clearly a bit more calm with a gift of argonian wine to smooth things over. Unfortunately, he refuses to let cousin go even with the promise of a whole shipment of wine.

Evening of Tudas of second seed.

"The banquet was splendidly prepared and the guests were all very kind... one of them even called me a "milkdrinker". Milk makes bones strong, so i'll take it to heart. The jarl even proposed a guided tour through the ruins. See! a bottle of wine does solve problems. I kindly accepted and asked for some more mead. A battlemaiden with even more muscles than me and cousin combined carried 17 full jugs to my spot alone! I guess she must be thirsty because she's challenging me to a drinking contest. Challenge accepted!

Night of Tudas of second seed.

"I tried getting back to my room. Can't find it. Stubbed my toe on a dwemer lamp and fell down the stairs. i'm leaking! ... i mean, i'm bleeding!

Found a spoon! seeing another shine in the distance! follow the spoons!"

Loredas of second seed.

"I can't see! i can't see! what happened? where am i, who is there? Why am i in my loincloth?! I can hear a soft voice coming from behind me, it's telling me to calm down. someone is giving me something to drink, it tastes awfull! Going to rest now a bit more... so tired... so sleepy."

Morndas of mid year.

"My sight is slowly returning to me, some kind elves are nursing me back to health. Apparently, i made a nasty fall in the ruins beneath Markarth. I hope cousin won't be angry at me for this. Someone called Zala found me and dragged me to her home. So very kind of them to help a stranger like me."

Tirdas of mid year.

"Everything is still a bit woozy, but atleast i can distinguish colours and shapes. The elves that are helping me are so very kind, they even offered me a home down here! To oblivion with the imperial city and the people of Bravil.

This is a wonderful idea. I always thought fighting the riekling tribes seemed less fun to fight from a normal size, but playing as a goblin?! Heck ya! make a camp with riekling structures with goblin npcs on Solstheim. Defend and fight other camps.

My apologies for not seeing this thread sooner. I always love a writing challenge.

My initial thoughts:

* Make the race a half-breed of human and goblin. That way, this goblin race can be "good" and prior usages of goblins in Elder Scrolls can just be the more feral, "bad" kinds.

* Origin? You can't go wrong with the "mentor gone wrong" angle: Someone played God (or, literally, a god played god) to create a "useful" breed of goblin and things got out of hand. Remember, Orcs supposedly were derived from elves in Elder Scrolls lore in this fashion so that, by itself, is not unusual. So, another Daedric god tried their hand at the same thing? Or, how about a powerful wizard? What about the orcs themselves creating a "slave" race to perform their menial tasks?

* I'm always partial to stealth-based gameplay to the point of pacifism & a goblin race would be a great addition. You could break the goblin race down into sub-races if so desired by skin color or some other physical attribute:

** Shadow Goblins: Dark grey skin, can see at night and chief abilities include invisibility & throwing their voice.

** Worker Goblins: Green skin, muscular, are quick and agile, with phenomenal jump and fall capabilities in order to get out a jam really quick.

** Pale Goblins: Caucasian-toned skin, the closest looking to human races, abilities would be persuasion, pickpocketing & picking locks.

I certainly like the "they all came from an island" idea as this allows for a larger mod expansion in the future. Perhaps they live in their "failed experiment" (be it orc-based, Daedric god based or some other type) and are slowly expanding outward from that.

Anyway, if I'm too late to contribute, that's fine. If you need help with the writing, though, let me know.

that would take a hell of a lot more work, ,and i'm at a standstill with the race. Somebody, anybody! help me get this race on it's feet! creation kit is being a rather annoying.

In a weird way i would like to see this mod have like a Reiklings won't attack you feature since you're one of them and you can understand what they're saying. While other hostile race still be hostile with you. Btw what is or would be the race racial skill?

I'd personally like to see the rieklings as a non-hostile faction towards any goblin... for soon-to-be-lore-reasons.

I wasn't planning on making half-breeds... because of the lore. (i'm the one writing it , so now you know why.) I was also planning on explaning in said lore why you have this seperation between this race and their ... other kin.(this also include rieklings)

Still busy writing their lore... and that "slave race  for orcs" screams copyright lawsuit from Game Workshop. Don't worry, their lore will be unique but also a bit sad.

I'm planning on making the lore in such a way that you can easely create a unique looking goblin with roots on its own. So you can give them a completely ridiculous skincolour or haircolour and it can easely be explained.

What with the idea that you literally had the truth right in front of you, but never noticed it?

Hey, this might be too late, but if you're looking for additional inspiration for male Goblins, and need something different besides the WoW approach (where they are very popular), I find them to be very different in Black Desert Online. The civilized ones are very scarred of nearly everything, and they are so unsecure that nearly everyone stutters.

Here, googled it a little.

Of course, it's only me point of view, but most of the modern days games all draw goblins based on the look the WoW uses for them. BDO doesn't - IMHO, it's the first titel where goblins aren't some sort of evil-minded dwarves with TNT.

Oh, I made the presets based on what the OP asked for and wanted at the time.

I'm not involved in the creation of this mod, just helped make a few face presets.

So, how goes the project?

I know there was stuff here but that's all in the other site now.

i'm a bit busy at the moment... i have 3 requests (presets) to finish, 49 citadel models (WH40K) and i have to babysit a sister with a burn-out.

So ... it's going nowhere for now.

Before these new worries appeared, i notified on the old site that i finished a new slider-set for the goblin race.

If i can implement it, the goblin presets will look a lot more realistic and will no longer have crunched hands and feet.

Are you still working on this?

Last time you said CK was giving you problems but didn't really mention what kinda problems, in case someone here may be able to help

the whole bloody thing is giving me grey hairs... everything is there to make the race, but i just simply can't find a way to do it. And it's rather annoying!

I've even found a better scaling set to make hands and feet no longer "crunched". (see the preset "Engi")

Ladies and gentlemen, let's continue where we left off!

  • Lore: Written
  • New slidersets: made
  • Skeleton: Needs to be updated to the new sliderset.
  • Chosen skintextures: Demoniac
  • CK: I want to throw my pc through the window

I made a small opinion-poll to see is my second gen goblins would be a nice addition or a better base for this race. Apparently Gen 1 seems to be more "gobliny".

Perhaps it's possible to create a FOMOD and offer the option to include gen 2 as extra templates.

Now hiring!

  • Someone who knows CK quite well
  • Someone who knows how to script books or notes into the game. (so we can actually include the lore!)
  • Someone who knows how to use NifScope and make the new skeleton.

If you feel up to one of these tasks, do send a PM
