problem installing FNIS (animations frozen)

Hello! As the title implies, I'm having troubling installing FNIS to get animations and such to work. I'm new to modding and singleplayer RPG games like Skyrim as a whole so sorry if I make any mistakes.

I used NMM to install FNIS v7: https://gyazo.com/adf7d76f65ff3d0af0827687fa3554f3

Then reading some instructions, I went to run Generate_FNIS_for_Users.exe as an Admin. I get this error after I "Update FNIS Behaviour":

>>Warning: Bad installation. Generator not run from a Skyrim installation directory. Generating Skyrim behaviors (32 bit)<<
FNIS Behavior V7.0   8/20/2017 3:15:27 PM
Skyrim: ??.??.?? -
Generator: C:\Games\Nexus Mod Manager\SkyrimSE\Mods\VirtualInstall\4721\tools\GenerateFNIS_for_Users\GenerateFNISforUsers.exe
>>Warning: Cannot find Skyrim executable (TESV.exe or SkyrimSE.exe). Assuming Skyrim (32bit).<<

Skeleton(hkx) female: Default (99 bones)   male: Default (99 bones)

Reading FNISBase V7.0 ...

All Anim Lists scanned. Generating Behavior Files ...

ERROR(2012): Could not generate: defaultfemale.hkx defaultmale.hkx 0_master.hkx

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? All animations in-game are basically frozen for me.

it has been a long time since I have used NMM, but I believe you must place your FNIS install into your actual Skyrim/data/tools folder, and not into NMMs virtual folder.  Additionally, were you sure to click the "skeleton arm fix" patch option before generating behaviors?

If you are new to modding, I would consider switching to ModOrganizer too, before you get too far in modding with NMM, especially if you plan on using mods with SKSE.  NMM has a tendency to overwrite files unless you are very careful during your installations, where MO is more forgiving.

I assume I should uninstall NMM and all of its mods before I switch to ModOrganizer, then reinstall the official stuff there. Also, isn't SKSE not compatible for Special Edition?

EDIT: You were completely right. I was running the one in NMM's virtual folder.  Ran the right one and everything is fixed. Would you still recommend switching to ModOrganizer if I have no issues? I plan on playing Enderal, and other new map/expansions later, so getting used to a better mod loader system now is probably better.

You are correct, SKSE is not currently compatible with SE, yet.  It hopefully will have a beta soon though, and you will probably want to use it when it is produced.

Personally, I would probably go with an entire clean install of Skyrim SE entirely, removing NMM as well, but I don't think it is actually necessary, as long as you run Skyrim through MO.  The beauty of MO is it's all a virtual install and does not alter vanilla Skyrim at all.  NMM does.  If you kept the compiled .rar files you downloaded, you can just drag them into MO one at a time too, thus saving you the tedium of downloading everything again.

EDIT:  I would say go ahead and play through NMM for now, just be aware you may start having issues with mods overwriting each other at some point.  MO will help with that, but I know if I were you, I'd be eager to play and wouldn't ant to wait.

Maybe plan on switching down the road if you encounter problems, but enjoy what you have for now.

If you use NMM virtual install you MUST call FNIS from NMM's supported tools list.
