Possible to have full and topless version of same armor?

So I had the idea to generate two different version of the studded armor with BodySlide... one topless and one not topless. What I'm attempting to do here is create a topless version of CT77's armor (hide medium, studded) that is independent of the full version so that I can equip whichever one I want in game without having to quit and go back to BodySlide.

So I started by copying the nifs and set them aside, zapped the top in BodySlide and renamed the nifs for the studded armor to ct77mediumcuirasstopless. I then replaced the copied nifs. From there I opened up CT77's plugin in the creation kit and found the armor, duplicated it, and...

...well I'm kinda lost from there. I thought I would be able to just point the duplicate entry to the topless nifs but I see no such way of doing so. Unless pointing it to the male GND model under World Model is all I have to do. But that doesn't sound right.Included is a screenshot of the what I see when I open CT77's armor. What am I missing here? Included is a screenshot of the what I see when I open CT77's armor. O.o

Lastly, is what I am attempting to achieve even possible in the first place? XD

It is possible.

You need to point to the nif through 'YourArmorNameAA' form (AA stands for ArmorAddon), not World Model as that is just for the item to appear in the world ( on the ground etc).

You mean in the listed under 'models', ya? Right now it has CT77HideCuirassAA, and I noticed it was the same for the hide light armor, so that kinda threw me off. Also, when I went to add my own, it brings up a forms window... soo... forms are where I become a total noob. What must I do at this point? XD

When you 'Duplicate' an item, it already creates a new form so when you change name or anything and click Ok it will ask you to create another new form, chose 'No instead then Yes' for the two windows that popup.

As for the linking the the new Armor, you can either click 'YourArmorNameAA' from two places (marked Red) to open the ArmorAddon window then click select (marked Blue) and it will open another window so you can locate where the Nif you want to use.

Then click Ok and then same as above, chose 'No instead then Yes' for the two windows that popup.

Ah, I see. I kinda figured it out just before you replied. I feel kinda stupid because I forgot about the ArmorAddon menu just below the Armor menu in the objects window. When I noticed it I was like "waaaaiiiitt...." And from there I added my entry, pointed it to the nif and then changed the listing according under Armor. Thanks for your help though! :D

That may make things easier in the future. It's still new, and it seems that it needs mods to work with it, but the idea is to allow the player to equip or unequip individual pieces of armor, even going as far as allowing the body plate to be removed separately from the leg plate and so forth. It's definitely worth following for updates and development of your own projects. I hope this helps. I know that I could stand to use it for a few things.

I generally use TesVEdit for this task.

Open TesVEdit, and choose the .esp/.esm the original is in.

Attempt to change something in the right panel to open the prompt asking you if you are sure you want to change things. You don't have to actually change something for this part, but you need the prompt confirmed to continue.

You will be prompted to name entries in the next steps.

Find the original in that file's ARMOR category, and right-click it. Select 'Copy as new record into....' This will duplicate the data, allowing you to drop it alongside the original in the same file, into a new, existing file that you have to open at the same time as the original, or even create a new file for it.

Look at the data in the right panel for the original, scrolling to the bottom to find the MODL entry. Make note of the entry listed there, and do the exact same thing with that entry from the ARMOR ADDON category.

You may need to shrink and expand the .esp in the left browser panel after duplicating to allow you to see your copies to work with them.

Find your armor copy, and change the entry in MODL to the name you assigned the ARMOR ADDON copy.

Find THAT entry now, and under the DNAM section, make sure you enable or disable weight sliders for each gender you are doing this for. Some modders, for whatever reason (considering that bodyslide exists) only make one body size, and should leave the sliders disabled.

Below DNAM, you will see 'Male World Model', 'Female World Model', 'Male 1st Person', and 'Female 1st Person'. Enter the file name of your edited mesh for the appropriate gender in its entry, making sure to include its entire path inside the Meshes folder. I sort of recommend placing it in the 1st Person entry too, as that will keep it consistent. Otherwise, if you go to first person view, you will see the default arms for the armor you tweaked, rather than the ones your armor would have.

Make sure your altered armor's "Full Name" is something changed to reflect, or you will be guessing which one it is, at a glance, and change the armor rating in the DNAM entry at the bottom of the page, unless you want it to have the same defense as the original.
