I am having issue with "romancing" two pre-made families.

Hi everyone! So I am having issue with mating two different sims from two existing families. It only lets me mate with my family members or my sim that I created. I was trying to hook up one of the McArthur with the Landgraab.  I am able to do it with my own sims though, but not pre-existing sims. Suggestions please?
