Please recommend a good fantasy strategy game

This might be the wrong place to post this but it's worth a try. I've been playing a lot of RPGs lately and now I feel like playing a cozy strategy game with a fantasy theme. Previously I've enjoyed games like Age of Wonders 1&2(Didn't enjoy AoW 3), King's Bounty and Master of Magic(very old) but it's hard to find anything like those. It seems most of the games today are either some hastily slapped together indie shit, or browser based cash-grab.

 

I wouldn't mind a game where you build a village or a town for some change, but it's hard to find anything with quality. I want a game where I can relax and enjoy the atmosphere without stress, so it has to be turn based or at least not time-dependent. It doesn't have to be super new but the graphics need to be good. If there is in no such game I'll just accept it cause my search haven't yielded any results so far.

 

I've tried Heroes of Might and Magic VI but that game suffers from lack of choice and strategy. It was disappointing that HoMM VII suffered from the same issues cause it looked great from the screenshots.The previous games in the series might be good but they are too old with outdated graphics.

You mention you liked older titles like age of wonders, have you tried Disciples 2? It is kinda similar to those and can be quite enjoyable. Newer stuff is..... admittedly a mixed bag for pure strategy but.... You say you like rpgs, would you consider a turn based rpg like Divinity: Original sin?

 

Edit: I just noticed  Disciples 2 gold is 85% off on gog right now, would be a good time to try it out.

Warcraft 3 with mods is seriously legit thing, but there is rumors that Activision finally(?) will do an proper remaster. If not in SC2 everyday is getting more arcade games wih Warcraft 3 assets.

Well, I mean, the PS1/PSP Final Fantasy Tactics is a turn based strategy RPG. There's also Bahamut Lagoon, which was the original FFT.

Well total war has turn based elements in it but its mainly for the real time strategy, definitely would recommend that game though, along with medieval 2.

 

Endless Legend is a game ive looked at before, I really should give it a try tbh

Total War: Warhammer is as legit as it gets these days, can't wait for the sequel.

Heroes of Might and Magic V with all expansions is very good also, tho a bit dated now if you care for graphics.

Thanks for all the tips, but no need to mention popular titles like Warcraft, SC2 and WoW. I watch games closely as they come out and I have played all of those. I'm looking for a 4x game to be more specific and none of the titles mentioned catched my interest. I don't like war games where you control large armies that has clones of the same units. It needs to have an RPG element. One game that I liked the look of is Eador Imperium. Has anyone played that?

It has to be fantasy or sci-fi, since I'm not much into realism. Stellaris could be fun. I'll check it out.

Older games were so much sexier by the way. Although Legends of Eisenwald could be forgiven for its modest appearance , since it represents more of less real medieval Germany (with mystical elements), I still would be happy to see sexy mods for it, like typical fantasy women in revealing armor in old good days. Ahoy Modders? Anyone?

You can get Warhammer mod for Crusader Kings 2. Then add loverslab CK2 adult mods on top of that (compatible from what I played) and you got yourself an X-rated Warhammer mod for CK2

 

I personally like the warhammer mod for CK2 far better than warhammer total war. Plus all the adult mods for it are nice ;P
