List of Followers

Hey all. Just figured I'd spend a bit of time reviewing some followers I've found. I had a goal of trying to find four followers I wanted to use throughout a playthrough.  To this end, I went through the entirety of the Skyrim Nexus Followers, Companions, and Companions Creatures pages, as well as Modtype and LoversLab.  In a sense, this is just a greatest hits list of the followers I enjoyed the most.

 

The four I ultimately chose were as follows:

With the additional animation pack, she's a really unique and cool follower, whose swordplay is always entertaining to watch. I had intended to play a mage initially, but I instead decided to use a katana just so my MC could also use the moves (with the Smokin Sick Style Animations pack).

Healer follower with custom voice. Humming is nice, even if I find the pitch of actual conversations a bit too high for my tastes. She can become pretty powerful later with some custom items given to her. Actual combat isn't much to write home about, typically just attacks with a staff and heals.  Standard, but useful for prolonged battles.

She's uh... my busted follower? Watching her fight is pretty incredible because of how much she just lays into enemies, but she's definitely pretty broken until you get much later into the game.

 

Sylvanas - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/70306/?

Sylvanas is a fighter that has been heavily customized.  A lot of her combat are extremely unique and she seems to have much better situational awareness than most other NPCs I've encountered. She also creates lots of summons and resurrects dead enemies to fight for you, heh. The armor is exceptionally well-crafted, lots of really great details. One of the most complete followers as far as visuals and combat goes.

 

 

 

Other followers I really enjoyed, but didn't choose for one reason or another are some of those below.

Reverie, Liant, Ecluse, Eureka, and Anima are my favorites of the ones released so far.  Always looking forward to seeing what this author will do next!

 

Aelesse - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/82086/?

I think I initially chose this follower because she was sexy. She's pretty good as followers go, mostly useful at archery.

 

Mango - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/73669/?

Much like Aelesse, chose her mostly because she was sexy. Doesn't seem to have much AI, so she's not ultimately all that useful in combat (giving her a weapon just uses default attack actions), at least in my experience.

 

Andromeda - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/36188/?

Follower that shapeshifts and can basically take on any role in different forms. I've never seen another NPC follower like this (i.e., 4 forms).  Might eventually go in the master list just because it's really unique as a follower.

 

Lady of Akatosh (Devi) - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/18762/?

Follower transforms into a dragon when combat initiates.  Really cool idea but the scripting is very broken unfortunately. The NPC works in the sense that the transforms happen and Devi (the NPC's name) will do things like breathe fire or ice or other breaths on the enemies, but the transformed dragon tends to get stuck in the geometry and leads to pretty glitchy situations. Would like to see transforming followers expanded on more in the future.

Half-dragon follower. Nice fighting style of weapon and magic, reasonably powerful. Great texturing work and is quite visually distinctive, similar to Dividedbythe9s work.

 

Cheryl - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/59556/?

Unique fighting style from Cheryl that was particularly interesting due to the "bullets" leaving a really recognizable trail as they were being fired.  Gives a cool, matrix-like effect to her attacks. Fairly strong as well and since there are no reloads, attacks consistently, smart AI that tries to get range on enemies but will still attack if it gets stuck.

 

Spriggan Healer - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/42890/?

Also a useful healer companion and highly consistent, which isn't always the case with Onean.  Highly reliable as a healer and also visually distinctive, given that it's a spriggan.

 

Mushroom Followers - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/63315/?

For full immersion, everyone needs to be followed around by sentient shrooms.

 

Plush Teddy Follower - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/68757/?

Poseidon - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/16884/?

Just a busted follower that will murder everything.  If you need/want it.  Kills dragons in one or two hits (even when enhanced with things like Deadly Dragons).

She uses pretty powerful lightning spells.  Not broken, but a good way to balance your followers out if you want a bit more power.

 

Hrist, Lenneth and Silmeria - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/64721/?

Admittedly, this mod isn't very good, but I'm too much of a fan of Valkyrie Profile to not share it in hopes others might check it out (whether the mod or the Valkyrie Profile series more generally). Really like the visuals of these games and the particular characters here. They aren't really as lovingly crafted as some of the other followers (i.e. getting stuff like hair color wrong), but still not terrible.

 

Xiaoqi - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/67852/?

This mod is a pain in the ass to get working, but Xiaoqi (and the helpers she summons) is busted and pretty cool from a visuals perspective. Lots of unique attacks and animations, and given enough time, are quite capable of mowing down dragons, giants or whatever. Again, aside from the difficulty with getting the mod working, it's great.

I definitely agree.  It is very personal to my own interests and was never intended to be a "best followers" list or anything like that.

 

Hope everyone just might find something they like or something interesting. There are quite a lot of followers and there's probably something for everybody out there, was just hoping to highlight some of my favorites.
