FNIS and New Animation for 1-Handed Weapon not working as intended

Recommended Posts

I've had the New Animation for 1-Handed Weapon mod installed for probably years now, to the point I don't even remember what the vanilla animations look like. But earlier today, I noticed something strange, which I'm positive wasn't an issue previously: whenever I strafe sideways with a 1-handed weapon drawn, the running animation plays way faster than it should be. The character doesn't actually move any faster than expected, but judging by the animation you'd assume they're running at a good 50 miles an hour. It only happens when strictly strafing, running forward or forward+strafe looks fine.

Immediately, I went through all the mods I've installed recently in search of the culprit, and the only thing that was even remotely relevant was this minor fix update for FNIS. Rolling back to the previous version of FNIS (6.3) and rebuilding the behaviours didn't help, so I started doing some trial and error, and it looks like hyper-speed strafing is caused by the "New Animation for 1H Weapon" patch in GenerateFNISForUsers.exe. When I disabled it, and reinstalled New Animation for 1H (letting it win any file conflicts it had with FNIS), then the animation played at the correct speed in-game, but the animation is all screwed up, which I assume is because I'm not using the FNIS patch like I should be.

I looked at the comments thread on Nexus and found two people describing what seems to be the same issue I have:

I hope someone can help me. Whenever my character runs left/right, it looks like I'm running in place. It looks even worse when I try walking left/right. Its like my lower body is having a seizure. Anyone else having this problem, or even a solution? I'd appreciate it a lot

Every time I run FNIS and pull out my weapon, if I move to my right or left very slowly, my character looks as if she's running in place rather than side stepping. This happens if I check the 1 handed animation in FNIS and this is also the latest version of FNIS too.

But I can't find any clue whatsoever as to what's causing it. If you happen to have any insight about what's going on, any help would be really appreciated.
