Here we go again...More CTD.

Everything was going smoothly in my main game. As of a couple of days ago I started to CTD immediately after selecting "Continue" or "Load" and received the irritatingly annoying Foot.IK error. I did my usual thing that almost always fixes it: Run FNIS, clear out the Overwrite folder in MO, run the game again and no problem. Only this time its not working at all.

What's even worse is that I'm now CTD at random moments but, I have noticed that movement has something to do with it. I play a stealth/archer or whatever you want to call it and 90% of the time when my PC crouches or comes up from a crouched position I CTD and every time this happens I have an SKSE folder in my Overwrite folder in MO. Also, since yesterday, I have noticed that whenever my PC is supposed to be standing still or crouched and not moving, she is very slowly walking in place.

When I first created this play through I carefully chose what mods I wanted because I would not make the same mistakes I've made before in the past of uninstalling mods mid-game. I have not installed nor uninstalled anything.

I've been searching for a solution online and have done hours of reading and the majority says to disable mini dumps and papyrus (or set their values to 0.). Mine have always been set that way.

I don't understand the CTD + SKSE Folder in my Overwrite folder within MO. If someone could please explain what that means or why that happens I will be forever grateful.

I have another question: Is it bad for the game to keep saving over the same save over and over again? I have a habit of doing that and I'm not sure if that's related.

Thanks in advance.

Random CTDs are most often memory related. It would be the first thing I would troubleshoot given the info you have provided.

Are your specs up to your mods? 4g ram and 1g vram can struggle with beastly load orders.

How big is your save file? Once you approach 17-18mb things go pear shaped. Unavoidable unfortunately.

Have you made a SKSE ini file and tweaked the memory settings? There is a guide on the STEP site or you can just download a made one from the nexus (search skse ini tweaks for lazy users).

Do you use an ENB or ENBboost? If not at least get boost. It has the functionality (vram tweaking) of an ENB without the graphics. Vital for a stable play through. If you do check your ENB ini settings.

If this doesn't help you can rule out memory at least.

As for save game habits. I'd say the majority of vet skyrim players turn auto saves off and new save every time. (I don't know if its a myth) I have heard overwriting can corrupt the save over time. Given how some values are stored unless you exit the game entirely I wouldn't doubt it.

Can't comment on random ingame ctd without your plugin list, but ctd during loading a save\continue and footik is very common, and can be avoided. Just load your save after starting a new game or after coc qasmoke from main menu (which is faster). There is also a mod on nexus called "continue game no crash" but I personally had issues with it, for some people it works fine, though.

Edit: http://www.loverslab.com/topic/71915-game-stuck-or-ctd-on-loading-saved-games-but-can-load-saves-after-starting-new-game/?p=1791283

The reason why the game has trouble loading when you are running a ton of scripts and script heavy mods is because when you load the save every single solitary script in your game tries to load it's ass up at the same time. Which can cause lag freezes crashes and what not on load time. The reason why it works fine on new saves is because there are not as many active scripts in the save file yet.

One trick I use is to start the game and when you get to the load/new game screen open the console screen by hitting the ~ key and typing in COC qasmoke this will warp you to the games testinghall. From there bring up the load screen and try to load the save you are trying to load and it should load up fine unless you have some serious problems in the save file. There is also save cleaners that you could try and see if they can clean up the save file but it doesn't always work.

I apologize for not replying to your comments, thoughts, and suggestions sooner - real life and all the crap that goes with it...

I remembered something a fellow LL member mentioned when I was having a similar problem:

75% of the time when I get ctd's like this it usually always ends up being an armor do you convert your armors with bodyslide at all? Try disabling anything that adds armors or textures for that matter.

Reason I say this is because its an NPC/creature being loaded that most likely is causing your crashes I had this problem recently with the iron armor causes crashes because of a bad conversion i forget what mod it was try adding iron armor to your inventory and equipping it maybe its the same mod.

I had recently converted some armor via BodySlide when the CTDs started occuring and once I removed said converted armor my game was running well again. I have zero idea why I'm jinxed with armor conversions. Thank you both for replying to my issue. xoxo
