Christianity Mod r1.6.1
================

Premise
-------
In its early history the Catholic Church was more heavily influenced by women
such as Mary Magdalene. As a result, equality is the norm for Catholics. Women
can hold council positions and lead armies without restriction, and may enter
the clergy. This Church's views on sex evolved in the reverse of its
historical counterpart: lust is a virtue, and chastity is one of the seven
deadly sins.

Whores are held in high esteem, and clergywomen are very likely to be whores.
Incest is accepted as normal, but doesn't have the Zoroastrian divine blood
belief. Concubines are also allowed. Adultery is looked on as generally good
because it shows a woman's desirability, but rulers may choose to discourage it
in their wives to avoid succession problems.

Installation
------------
To install this mod, follow these steps:
1. Open your "Documents" folder.
2. Locate the "Paradox Interactive" folder within your "Documents" folder and open
it.
3. Locate the "Crusader Kings II" folder within the "Paradox Interactive" folder
and open it.
4. Locate the "mod" folder within the "Paradox Interactive" folder and open it.
5. Copy the "Christianity Mod" folder and the "Christianity Mod.mod" file
located in the same folder as this readme to the "mod" folder.

You will now see it in the list of mods when you run Crusader Kings II.

Game Mechanic Changes
---------------------
I greatly reduced the likelyhood of getting the inbred trait, as in real life
the danger of inbreeding comes from harmful recessive traits, which is already
handled by normal inheritable trait mechanics. The remaining low probability
simulates multiple bad recessive traits that wouldn't individually merit a game
trait eventually adding up.

I lowered the age of marriage to 12, as it was in medieval Europe, because I'm
not selling this and therefore don't need to give lip service to Victorian era
beliefs. The age of adulthood for purposes of guardianship and regency ending is
currently set at 16, as the idea of education lasting until 16 is deeply
embedded in the game.

Absolute Cognatic succession law is available for all Catholics, even tribes.
The mod uses custom history files to make about 75% of Catholic titles use
it, while the remaining 25% stick with their original laws. The affected titles
may start with female rulers. Note that West Francia and Lombardy retain their
original rulers and succession laws so as not to interfere with the Charlemagne
events, and Venice and Amalfi are also unaffected because merchant republics are
hardcoded to be ruled by men.

Note that the status of women laws, introduced in Conclave, are redundant
for Catholics who are effectively equivalent to the highest level at all times.
The Tolerance tech level requirements for improving the status of women have
been lowered to reflect the influence of the numerous Catholics.

Compatibility
-------------
This mod requires version 2.6.2 and the expansions other than Sunset
Invasion. It works fine with the Your Personal Castle mod, which is recommended,
and with Better Looking Garbs.

The EUIV converter works fine for saves created with this mod.

This mod is not compatible with the CK2 Plus mod as it modifies religion to be
more historical, which is the opposite of what this mod does with religion.

Includes
--------
This mod was inspired by and is derived from nadamod, which in turn uses VIET,
Your Personal Castle, and Duel Engine. Nadamod also used a custom map and a law
mod which are not included here. I've separated out the files from Your Personal
Castle as well--anyone wishing to use that mod should install the regular
released version. As of version 1.6 of this mod I've removed the Duel Engine
files as well. Duel Engine stopped working a while ago, and is no longer being
supported, so the files were just taking up space but not actually getting used.

Known Bugs
----------
* Free investiture is hardcoded to only allow men to be nominated as
successors. This is a known limitation which Paradox will hopefully change.
* Only men can take concubines. This is a hardcoded limitation that I can't do
anything about.
* Some characters are created as adults by the game engine and can't be modded
directly. The event that gives women their curves will trigger for women created
this way eventually, but it can take up to six months. This is for performance
reasons, and I may adjust the frequency later.
* Catholic rulers get the "liege is jain" opinion modifier with their vassals,
which greatly increases realm stability. This is an engine bug that gives the
opinion modifier based on a religion's "pacifist" parameter being set to "yes",
as it is for Catholicism in this mod. In the base game, Jain is the only
pacifist religion.
* The status of women laws can still be changed for Catholics, but doing so will
have no game effect. The engine offers no way to disable that law even when
it's redundant.

With the new patch a lot of my characters keep dying from Great Pox (syphilitic) Not the Aztec version of "syphilis". I assume this has to do with the brothels? Before it was just lovers pox. But now it seems like a high chance to get "Great Pox" as well. But that kills unlike lovers pox which is just a mild annoyance. I even cheated and maxed out my hospital and beefed up my physician. Doesn't seem to help in that region with Great Pox. I guess since its not in the disease section but the traits section of the files? Perhaps hospitals only lower chances of "diseases" from the disease file and not illnesses from the trait section?

In find character screen. I searched "whore" under "search all" almost all the Catholics who have the trait whore of some level. Have Great pox as well. The whores who are not Catholics at most have only lovers pox. I assume because there's no brothel so no sex event firing off frequently for that character.

I'm only 12 years into the game. Almost every catholic whore has Great Pox. Another thing is if they have Great Pox, chances are they have the lunatic trait as well. Before I was fine with pretty much every catholic having lovers pox. But this is too harsh.

That being said. Is it possible to have a building maybe in the hospital section or maybe in Bishoprics, that cures people of Great Pox? Or perhaps just an event where the physician cures you of it?  Or an upgrade to brothels where they practice "clean sex" which greatly reduces the chance? These are just some ideas doesn't have to be like this. But something does need to be changed or added to tone down this problem.

Anyways great mod and thanks for updating it fast to the new patch.

You're still seeing that happen with the latest version of Christianity Mod, 1.6.1? The version in this thread? I want to be clear about the version you're using because the previous version of the mod did have that problem, but this current version is supposed to fix it (and did, in my testing).

Downloaded the mod yesterday. Zipped file says 1.6.1. To be clear there are multiple versions of syphilis right? One that you get from Sunset Invasion (the on that you mentioned in your notes) that is labeled "syphilis" and the one Im talking about is labeled "syphilitic"  which in tool-tip it reads "Has Great Pox". The "syphilis" from Sunset Invasion tool-tip reads "Has Aztec Disease". If I'm correct.

Edit:

Going back and looking into it more in files.

I see syphilis,  Aztec Disease, and Great Pox (Syphilitic) I was getting "Great Pox"

Edit 2:

Question is "Great Pox" from sunset invasion too or not? Doesnt seem like it is.

I started a new game. First I disabled all dlc, loaded the game looked if any dlc's were still on. Exited the game enabled all dlc's besides the Sunset Invasion. Played a female ruler spammed the prostitute job for a about a year. Checked globally for "whore" only saw lovers pox on some. So it seems to work.

Did the same thing again with Sunset Invasion enabled. The "Great Pox" came back.

So the first time I had the pox, I think the dlc was still enabled since I didnt double check if it was disabled or not. Usually I play the game with Sunset Invasion off. Maybe the new patch enabled it on its own? Or maybe I accidentally enabled it dont really know.

Gonna keep playing this new game (without Sunset Invasion) and see if pox will start appearing 10-20 years into the game.

Ah, it's because of Sunset Invasion that you were seeing it. Reaper's Due introduced a new mechanism for getting diseases where a character could get syphilis (along with various other diseases) just out of the blue. The check I added keeps that from happening if Sunset Invasion isn't active, but if it is active you'll still get syphilis appearing.

Yes that seems to be the case. So far I'm 10 years into the game without Sunset Invasion. Im only seeing lovers pox.

While with it being active even my chaste eunuch got it. I guess he secretly likes prostate massage, lol.

So how do you get the christ events? Or are they not implemented yet?

What are you talking about?

There are a bunch of events in the christ_events file about interactive with your ward and yourself.

Ah, got it. They have a chance of showing up, but it's not a very high chance. You won't see them very often.

  • 2 weeks later...

So I've been fooling around with this mod for several days, starting from Catholic Charlemagne, and recently realized that I am unable to declare Holy Wars. I've even booted up just this mod from a 3rd Crusade start as Jerusalem to confirm that I only seem unable to declare holy wars when this mod is active. Anyone know if this is a known feature of this mod, or is it just a bug I'm experiencing?
