Conan Exiles -- Funcom Resurrected.

I played this all evening last night.    I was happy with it.   It was actually better than I expected it to be.   I full well knew I was buying a game and playing it on the first day of what constitutes open beta.    I knew full well there was placeholders, and animations and other things were not finished, or some even started yet.   But just what they had so far, for the first thing, it ran well on my pc, and looked good.

I think people got the wrong idea about these type games.   People are just grinding, building, griefing, then getting frustrated or bored, or both.  These types of games would do a lot better if they were populated by people that were using them as roleplaying tools.

Like this particular game, it already has full nudity, with physics, and slavery built in.  And thats just on the first day of beta.   With a years development, and modding, this thing has Loverslab roleplaying server written all over it.

That's what I'm hoping for as well, this game is practically begging for full Loverslab treatment :)

I had a chance to play last night, very addicting gameplay. Just did single-play local host, but there's lots of potential, and even more so if modding takes hold. Animations are still wonky, seeming several are from AoC; likely placeholders. For combat, I just ran away mostly; instead testing CE's primary feature -- building while surviving. Pretty solid, though very feature lean currently, no real camping gear yet, AI is silly, but devs also mentioned huge improvements for AI. The first map is rather small for explorers, but with dozens of new biomes planned, the game should be sizable, in time. Some features and aspects are definitely dated, needs polishing to current gen standards.

What's cool are the incredible amount of server options, great idea. And a potential for many more seem apparent.

Will definitely mess around with modding, as I've been a big fan of UnrealEd since version 1.

I played a little of it and honestly, the game doesn't really impress me enough to justify the purchase. Combat was sluggish and laughable at best, plus the survival aspect was either infuriating and unbalanced as well. And don't get me started on how something like a bird takes 12 hits to kill with an iron javelin...The worse thing is that I had to refund it as I didn't find any justifiable reason to keep it. It does have a much smoother release compared to ARK but the thing is that it feels very lean in terms of the world. Hopefully, it will grow but at the moment, I'd probably tell everyone to just wait until a year after then see how it is.

25 hours played, this is my new favorite survival game. I can understand that it's not for everyone and is still rough, but I completely disagree with the combat, I'd even go so far as to say it's better than what VANILLA, UNMODDED Skyrim has. The different weapon types actually feel different, rather than simply "this is slow but does more damage." If you're playing solo you might not notice the differences depending on what you fight, but every type of weapon has it's purpose. The two-handed hammers are slow, but can knock people down. Spears have longer range, but they actually behave like spears, if someone gets inside of your reach you're gonna have a bad time. I haven't used any throwing weapons so I can't speak to their usefulness, but the bow is in desparate need of some reworking, the arrows drop off way too soon, probably best compared to Oblivion, or even Morrowind.

I can see the survival aspect being somewhat annoying as there's a trick to it that's never explained in game, if you drink/eat until the indicators turn blue rather than eating just enough to keep them from going empty, they drain at a much slower rate, which I think is great. A bunch of small snacks or meals here or there that never really feel you up are going to make you hungry again quicker than eating a solid meal.

I can agree that PvP is really unbalanced at the moment, particularly raiding other players' bases. It's far too easy to break in, and the only way to get other players' items is to destroy whatever container they're in, they can't be opened AT ALL by anyone not in the same tribe/clan/guild as the person who owns the container, which I'm sure will be fixed in a future patch.

As far as aesthetics go, I think Funcom nailed the look 100%. The armor, the character models, the world, the creatures, it all looks and feels like something from Conan. I'm not even able to fully experience the game's graphics, running on low until I get some new PC parts (mine are really starting to show their age at this point) and the game still looks great. Honestly I'm surprised I get the performance I do out of my PC from a game that's been available for 2-3 days and had very little optimization, there are very rarely and performance dips, it's pretty consistent across all parts of the map (with the spawn areas being an exception, having much higher performance than the rest of the game because they're so barren).

Bottom line the way I see it, if you like Conan and you like survival games, this is THE game to buy this year. If you feel like waiting, sure, wait, you'll just get a better product.

TLDR: I love nearly every aspect of this game, the pvp side just needs some more balancing if that's your thing, I'm here for the PvE and RP side, which is imo stronger than in any other survival game on the market..

@Darth_Falcon, nope. Close combat is very bad compared to Skyrim. At least in Skyrim, I know I'm doing damage. A stone should kill in a couple of swings or at least heavily injure. But here in Conan, I swing till kingdom come with a stone sword and it still doesn't kill some of the creatures. I've gone up to the iron weapons and it gets even more ridiculous as I get killed with a couple of swings compared to mine which takes forever. Plus AI is so numb given that they atttack before another 4 secs pass before they go again. The damage inflicted on them during then is ignored.

To be honest, if I want survival games, I'd probably go elsewhere until the major bugs are fixed.

Ark is definitely not a solo game, there is just way to much grinding and bosses require 5+ players. Conan exile is solo-able (which is how I am playing it now) and if you want you can have a friend or two drop in and play with you. With Conan you can change the server settings at anytime which can make the game less grindy. Also Ark requires a pretty beefy comp if you want the game to look decent. I would recommend Conan for now especially if you plan on playing solo.

I've got 13 hours in Conan now, and am far enough that I definitely like it better than Ark.   I'll be deleting Ark and playing Conan.    I said that I was gonna wait till it was more done, or at least a couple more patches, but I'm enjoying it so much I just can't tear myself away.

A new article in the news section on Steam says there will be official tools at launch. Also system requirements have changed.

I believe it only when it has appeared. ;)

The same had already promised CD PROJECT RED for The Witcher 3, but what was then?

It appeared only a stripped down version of the Construction sets, so the modders could not do anything.

justification of CD PROJECT RED, The Witcher 3 should not be a skyrim become.  ;)

And I also do not think FunCom pornographic material will allow.  :P

We already have completely nude dongs and boobies flailing everywhere in the current states of the game, so I highly doubt that they would think that was not categorize as pron......

The 1070 requirement turned me off majorly. With a 750Ti I do not wish to play on lowest settings with barely 10 FPS.

It isn't that bad, it would run in GTX750 (1GB low-ended version) with normal graphics as 25+FPS, but it would refuse to go up higher then that......

The modding tools are already with Epic Games (Ue4 creator) they just need to accept and release.

Modding the edges. Not sure what Funcom's road map is, what will be implemented, where they're headed... how far they push the envelope. And what point does modding community pick up the ball.

"I am Spartacus" is a good theme to explore -- "Slaves versus Slavers" game mode/mod. A mod with combination of Death Alternative x Sanguine Debauchery x Defeat x Devious Devices functionality, where players-slavers enslave by trap, threat and violence; while the subjugated rise-up against oppression, authority. Basically, "what is slavery"? Could be Funcom's direction, R.E. Howard was a freedom lovin Texan, lots of good anti-tyranny stuff hidden in his novels -- Conan, the quintessential rugged individualist.

What would some early mods look like? Using skyrim as example. With UnrealEd, (no SKSE  wait time)... sex mods seem obvious. Tons of official tutorial video for UnrealEd workflow. Devious Devices already partly implemented. Definitely need combat mods. I suspect early mods will improve animations, landscapes and visuals.

What mods would you like to see? Once there is a development roadmap, it should be easier to mod around the edges.

I hope this is ok to mention here.. ABC Game Servers allow adult themed servers, so if you want to go down that road and have your own server try them... http://www.abcgameservers.com

But you have a very important point forgotten!

Conan Exiles Server rental - server from 8,90 € in the month minimum!

Nitrado offers, for example, the right packages: the server »Hunter« with 10 player slots costs 10 euros for 30 days and can then be extended as desired.

So you do not have to be afraid to pay much longer than you actually play Conan. The "Warrior" package offers space for 24 players and costs 18.50 euros for 30 days.

First buy the game and then a server for 100 euros a year, What then?

Conan (Arnold Schwarzenegger) rent!

Kind of boring after you figure out how to survive and find a sweet spot. The game isn't as brutal then and nothing challenging occurs any more. Lacks things to build/do and the combat is god awful. AI has problems and most of the time humans don't seem to play animations they will just glide across the ground in a stiff pose. Has potential, yet their claim of Funcom investing 5-10 million USD into this has yet to show.

Hopefully modding takes off, especially adult modding.

Some damn good looking models for an alpha, shame those busty warrior chicks go without some loving.
