Trying to get Mod Organizer Working with Fallout 4

I recently started playing Fallout 4 (late to the party I know) and I'm already looking for, and finding, mods. As a veteran Skyrim modder, I know to skip NMM and use mod organizer. I installed MO (using the installer found on Nexus and linked to from here) in my steam/steamapps/common/fallout4 folder, then ran it. That's when MO asked me to "select the game to manage" and when I ran into the Problem. I clicked the browse button, then selected the steam/steamapps/common/fallout4 folder, then I got an error message saying 'No game identified in "D:/Games/Steam/steamapps/common/fallout4." The directory is required to contain the game binary and it's launcher.'

My two questions are "What went wrong?" and, more importantly, "How do I fix it?"

Edit: It's been over a year and a half since Skyrim modding days, so I'm guessing either something changed or MO can't recognize FO4. Also, I'm usinf Windows 7 if it matters.

D:/Games/Steam/steamapps/common/fallout4."

That's your problem. I highly doubt you have a D: drive, just point the installer in the right direction.

For Fallout 4 this is the version of mo you want https://github.com/TanninOne/modorganizer/releases

Its alpha release though so it may or may not work, in my case none of the 4 alpha releases have worked with Fallout 4 and I have not tried it on any other game.

Unfortunately MO seems to be progressing slowly, there must be a few major hiccups to sort, I've been waiting on it for 3 months to make beta and manually installing, but I guess I'll be going with NMM soon.

Damn. I thought MO could launch anything. I even remember seeing that it could launch Steam (not that steam would work if launched like that).

Alpha versions are a bit too shaky for my taste. Manual installations and data folder backups it is then.

LaEspada, I do have a D: drive, it's the SSD that ins't my system drive.

Problem seems to be that Fallout 4 is 64bit and the current mo can not run 64bit programs, as it says to you when you try, the v2 alpha can, but seems to be a bit iffy on doing things, for the as I said non work;

Alpha 1, can not remember what the problem was with this.

Alpha 2, could install mods, and run Fallout 4, but the game got to the load/save options screen and would not show any existing saves, and would crash with a Fallout 4 has stopped working message on trying to run it.

Alpha 3, instant ctd on mo splash screen.

Alpha 4, Does the same as alpha 2 did but now just goes to a black screen, and task manager or any other program wont come to the front of the screen all I get is black screen, though they all show in the task bar.  Only way to get anything done after that is to re-boot the pc, which is annoying as hell, as I have not had many games do that since I went to Windows 7, and even fewer since Windows 10.

Yep... I did. I went to NMM and am now getting support for this on Elf Prince's thread :). I am pretty sure once it is able to play the game properly I will move to MO. (hopefully it will be able to run all the games, Fallout 3, NV, Skyrim etc  like it did before and hopefully fix the Oblivion bug that wont' allow it to be used with Steam games as well)

Truth be told so far NMM has been running quite well with Fallout 4. however poor souls that are using it for the other Bethesda games seem to be having some issues because of their update for Fallout 4. That and they are making quite good progress and loads of updates almost weekly to resolve those issues and started a new public Beta to help find and crush any bugs that are n the the new versions. and working on features that isn't available on MO like Profile backup. Send a profile or download one from someone and NMM will download all the mods (from Nexus) and install them properly like the original had. You can send a profile (from say a Skyrim tutorial lol) to Nexus and get a very good base game started exactly the way that person has it setup. Not sure if they will get that to work but if they do it will be interesting.

TanninOne's mod organizer 2 has been on beta 3 since June.

This suggests to me that either it was stalled or that no really significant issues had mandated a new release.

However, it looks like Bethesda's latest patch has broken it, so (if it's not a dead project) I imagine we should be seeing a new release soon. (And presumably a relatively stable release, though the details of that depend on lots of things - like this most recent fallout4 patch - that I do not adequately understand.)

One can hope he is still working on this perhaps his slow movement might be due to waiting out the changes being done with Fallout and perhaps even some wait for the new Skyrim to gather up his last bit of work to release. It really must suck to have things get broken after working so hard on something.

I have the same problem. my game launcher and everything is in the file. Its in my E: disk. Its just not working. I tried everything from here and it didnt work

I clicked "Browse games" and then I went to Local Disk (E:) and then, I did the same process when it came to adding mods. When I got there, I clicked on the Fallout 4 Folder, and clicked Ok. The Same message appeared like the person that started this post.

Just a quick question, you are using the 64bit mo2 version found on the github site https://github.com/LePresidente/modorganizer/releases or from here are you not ; http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/6194/?
