[Idea] Videos on the tv

Currently, all of the televisions just show the Please Stand By message, which makes having a tv in a house rather pointless. I recently saw a mod on Nexus that replaces that screen with other versions of PSB, so changing the picture is possible already. I would love to see mods replace the static image with something more interesting, and eventually include actual video and sound if possible.

I think it is possible because if you remember during the pre-war setting the TV was playing not only advertisements but broadcasted the news of the bombs dropping. The first video was pretty much a real video of the fat-man catapult the second (the news Broadcasted) looked like a CGI clip they made in the game and recorded to be played back.

Which means if you can find the format these two videos are in and the method they are called, it would be pretty simple to have fully fledged shows on the TV's.

I'd love to put a full, or partial, Twilight Zone episode in the game. Time Enough At Last, I'm thinking. Maybe some Three Stooges. Would definitely have to wait until the GECK, but maybe make the TV an activator with a script that remembered how many times you'd activated it so that it can cycle through enabling and disabling multiple TV sets so that you can change channels. Dunno if you could get something like that to work with settlements, but or traditionally built player housing - it should be easy enough.

Hey, if it is possible to get the TV working again, it could leave open the possibility for other mods, maybe quests for a waste land TV network. A mod that maybe had the player character go on quests to find some X rated holo-tapes, or shoot a porn or something for a new TV network could be a possibility.

IF it's not too hard to get something like that working...

The Televisions use .dds textures and are small tiled shots repeating over again.

I did do something for laugh: Prewar TV was great , Nora found Nate's porn stash (had posted the first GiF here)

Thats a shame

You could just do.... .GIF animation pictures right?   Then just add the audio in some other way?

It should be very easily done because gif pictures are somewhat like regular pics, but with a bit of animation to them, so I'd have to believe somebody is capable of doing this, even with the picture frames as well.    (not realistic for picture frames, but yeah cool though.)

If someone tries this and it actually works, I'd have to say what else would you be able to do if you can make a really advanced gif image and then apply that to unique armor styles?

Just speculating is all, but I've seen this before where it's said adding videos would be technically impossible, but then again maybe there could be a small work around.

Nothing perfect, but hey it's worth a shot.  ;)

Well first off didn't realize you already knew about the gif feature, but wow seeing the picture of how the standard tv video was put into the game wow.. I would've hated doing it that way.

If previous creation kits / gecks are anything to go by, it could very well be possible to assign a sound emitter to the TV set where it would loop on forever (or mute it upon interaction?), as for the animated videos within, that's a different story all together. I remember back in FNV, there was a home mode that utilized animated images that played in sequence to convey a somewhat gif like videos, it was awesome back then, I did a couple of porno animations and had them loop on screens while everyone was enjoying an orgy... good ol' days :P (it was an apartment on Freeside if I remember correctly, really nice interactive home mod).

Anyhow, another trick you could do is loop the pics while in game and play a video on activation, like you approach a tv and you can interact with it to watch, it'll have to play the video in full screen (ie. most likely the same format the intro's are made with).

Knowing Bethesda's creation kits, playing a video in real time would most likely suck the life out of the game's performance, the question would be; is it worth it?.

Videos of the Wasteland

There you go.

OK.  So I guess someone could figure it out and just build on what Razorwire did or come up with their own version.  I dunno

It's a neat idea.

I'm still quietly hoping that we can eventually get SWF television instead of DDS, but I haven't seen it discussed yet since the CK released... My thinking goes like this (and someone more experienced can correct me if I'm wrong): the pipboy SWF files are played on ingame geometry, you can even move the pipboy around as they play, so they're probably not just a static UI element... I really hope that some clever cookie can figure out how to make the TV screen geometry play them in the same way.

And when they've figured that out maybe they can do something with the projectors too... :P

This mod some how gets swf files to work but it seems theres no solid answer on which is the compatible swf file that works with game and not crashes it.

Sadly, the VotW modder has moved on after creating only 3 movie reels for the Starlight Drive-in, so it will be up to other modders to create content.  I thought I had found something here but can't locate it now.

Just to inform, the holo tape versions for TV aren't compatible with the movie reel versions.  I believe it's a resolution issue?
