Centaur mod or horse race

I've just made the custom skeleton for the centaur race.  I'm going to strat learning behaviors so I can make it actually walk instead of the horse part being static.

Funny i was just talking to someone about this last week

did some looking around  found  a few meshes and what not

But  i was thinking that the cavalry mod might be a good place to start for behaviors also the possibility

of making a ridable centaur follower .

Thank you, I'll check out that mod and see if the behavior is anything I can use.  I was thinking that I could just open the two behavior files(defaultmale/female and defaulthorseproject) and combine them into one.  But I'm pretty sure I'd have to run fnis for modders and I don't know (yet) how to make the list that fnis for modders uses.   I'm extremely green when it comes to behaviors.

the interesting thing was the animation for the horse and the warrior on top somehow i was thinking that might be half the trick  but i know nothing about it

I was interested in the possible follower  use to make a mount follower combo out doors only of course    but that got side tracked  

anyway watching to see what come of this best of luck

btw  os-ceo posted some good looking guides on animation maybe that would be of some help

Well, I looked at the mod and the nif file does have the horse and rider togehter, but I don't see the behavior files.  And unfortunately, I haven't gotten dragonborn yet, so I can't even check it out in the ck.  I tell you, so far trying to figure out behaviors is a quagmire of confusion.  Wading through the murky bog of non-information has me almost at my wits end.  If I could find someone who knows how to read xml, I think I know how to make the behavior.  But xml is just a bunch of jibberish to me. oh and here is a link to my mod so far, just ignore the centaur test nif, I didn't use it to make the mod. https://www.mediafire.com/folder/s7l1wh1dh7hy5/Documents

Looked at the esp in CK looks promising. didn't see anything but the esp and skeleton / mesh nif no mod i could see beyond reference to a skin in ck.

I know less than nothing about behavior files

And you're right I didn't see anything in the Summons Calvary mod for behaviors  .

I think i must have confused that with the other centaur mod that i downloaded  the same one linked here

altho it would move around and was ridable i could get anything but T pose from it even tho  it did have a behavior file

and animation, Fnis wouldn't even acknowledge it. Can't say i looked into it more than a get in game and check it out

Well, at the moment I'm at a loss.  I've spent two days researching, tinkering and what all and nothing has come of it.  I can't figure out how to even go about making a behavior.  Anton's behavior creator is promissing but, I just don't understand how it works.  It obviously does, otherwise his amazing flying mods wouldn't work, I'm just not smart enough to figure out how to use it.  I've written to him, yet I'm not sure he'll ever write back - it's been over a month since he was last on the nexus.  The creator of the centaur mod on this page appearenlty got banned and just disapeared.  Unless someone can tell me what to do, where to go, I'm going to have to let this mod slide, and that sucks.  From what several people have told me, mine is the best looking.  And it seems that it should just be a simple matter of combing the default actor with the default horse to get the behaviors to work. There is also that Josh behavior patcher tool that might work for combing them, but haven't figured out how to make that do anything other than piss me off.

I do not have 3ds max.  I know you supposedly can get it for free, but no matter what I do the studen version will not load onto my computer.  And the 30 day trail is convusing to work with.  I know almost nothing about animation, but I do know a bit about modling in blender and I understand it better so I might be able to figure something out.  But I'm not sure, do you think that I should try to just create the animations for the centaur race?  I wouldn't have a clue how to make them into a behavior though.  But then again, maybe that's the way to go for now.  It is at least a direction, I just don't look forward to trying to figure out all that animation.

 

P.S. What do you mean the rest of the mod?  I've posted every thing I've come up with so far.  If you're talking about armors and weapons, I haven't bothered with that stuff yet because, without a functioning body, what's the point.  That is why I started with the mesh and then the skeleton.  Funny thing is, once I got the skeleton working I realized that I didn't need a new mesh, the in game meshes worked fine.

oh i mean i saw a centaur skin reference in ck when i looked at the race. thought that was something you made that's in game already ?

the posted mod  the one that kinda looks goofy has animations but I cant get any of them to play tried looking at it thru ck  and checking some things on the posted mod   but still can't get it to do anything but T pose altho you can ride it but still t posed i think he/she may have just used the stock horse animations . idk But there is quite a few maybe i,ll look at when i figure out how /lol

Wanted to give a heads up.  I'm very, very close to getting a functioning centaur into game.  Without new behavior files.  It's a long complicated thing, but I've gotten the horse and human parts to animate in game.  There are some mesh issues, and riding it does some funky things.  But I think after I tinker with it some more, I might be far enough along to post it.  Keep your fingers crossed.

Hey all, well, still a lot of tinkering to go but it's looking better and better.  There are some major issues still.  But you can ride the centuar and the horse legs animate.  The back end is still a messed up, the mesh bends very strangely and the tail for some reason is not animated and is too low.  Oh, and when you first mount the centaur the mesh goes crazy and for several seconds(usually until you jump or fall off of something) the horse's legs are in the ground.  Also, you can't dismount.  Like I said, lots of bugs still to work out, but since I've got the only centaur that has both the human part and the horse part animating, I think I'm doing pretty good.  Here is the alpha(super buggy) files. https://www.mediafire.com/folder/s7l1wh1dh7hy5/Documents

Just an update, I've gotten closer to getting the centaur's rear end to animate.  It's still twisted and the tail isn't attached properly, but the legs are animating better and not as distorted.  You'll need both the updated skeleton and mesh to see it.  Let me know what you think.  https://www.mediafire.com/folder/s7l1wh1dh7hy5/Documents

You guys are so awesome, im so happy to see this finally looks like it will be true soon, also how do i get this to work do i need to rename the files to standard stuff like skeleton and whatnot?

You shouldn't have to rename anything.  You may need to create a folder in your skyrim folders, something like data\meshes\actors\centaur and put them in there.  Once I get the centaur functioning better, I'll make an actual mod out of it and probably pack it in a bsa.

Well, I've hit a wall.  It seems that if I want the back legs to animate without distortion, I'm more than like going to need to create a new skeleton.hkx file.  No matter what I do, I can't figure out that file to edit it.  I've tried following the thread listed on pornphile's rig thread, but It doesn't make any sense.  If any kind soul out there would be willing to teach me how to edit that file(I must add something like 20 to 30 bones), I would greatly appreciate it.  As it is, I can't move forward with my mod until I can get those back legs to stop distorting.
