Creating a world for OKW

Being a bit nervous about this, first time ever posting about something, I am doing.

 

Anyway, here I am.

 

Started to play around with CAW, figuring out how to build my own world from scratch, without CTD or lag or whatnot.

Even better, after some searching, I found the WorldBuilderCS, or supercaw.

 

This world is my first one, so don`t expect wonders, world progress is my progress.

 

By now there are:

 

7 residential lots

Cantina 

Police Station

City Hall

Books and Consignement store

Elixir Shop

Hospital+Mortuary

Beach

2 Transport Stations (yep, they work)

Gym

Food Truck

 

All rabbitholes are created by me, no prefab-EA-crap, and use rabbithole-rugs-and-doors, most of them can be visited.

Still needed:

 

Park

Educational Facility

Corporate Tower

Criminal Hideout

Apartment Building(s)

Library

more bars and clubs and all that Late-Night-stuff

more dark places and unlit roads, brothels and "exotic clubs".

 

 

What I don`t know:

 

how to add roads and stuff from other EP´s, aside from what is available in CAW.

Using other textures, than the basic ones.

How to put an address to a lot.

 

 

CustomContent:

 

I try to keep that low, so only one or two artists creations. TSR Cyclone Sue mostly.

All you need, to make a world look fubar.

 

 

World name: Fleabottom.

 

 

I guess, that`s it for now, more screenies as progress goes.

So far looks good, just take your time and don't rush it. I say keep it medium at best. Not everyone has a powerhouse machine and it will take ages to load and lag for people without high end machines.

@Ras Al Ghul: Thanks. No rush behind all that, just finished the East Fleabottom High, 30x30 nothing fancy.

Ah, yes, map-size is medium, by now, the file is around 60 mb, loading is fine and testing showed no lag (after OKW kicked in, that is).

Talk about OnikiKay's KinkyWorld's world....

 

I actually have a plan for it too. A kind of poor, backwater and morally bankrupt town with casino, strip clubs, brothels, porn studios, drug plantations, drug factories, etc filled entire town.

 

Almost all women in town work as prostitutes.

 

The politicians, police officers etc are extremely corrupt.

 

I know that KinkyWorld is not yet have prostitution and porn studio mod for now.

Hmmm What makes a really good map is not just how you place the lots but also the landscaping. This might be taking a few steps back in the production but do consider looking at premade landscapes on mts or other modding websites if you arent into landscaping.

@luffyboy: had alook at lots of premade maps, nothing to catch my eye so far.

Another thing is, I would need the caw-files, as some of the lots use a rabbithole-rug or a door. Their state (visitors/no visitors and other details) should be set in caw, so it will work. Setting this in the game gives you some problems.

This map is for testing the lots (took some time to figure out, how to place the rabbithole-doors(inside/outside) and set the lots, so the subway-system would work), landscaping is for later, when all the lots work as supposed and I know the map-size I really need.

Then I can start planning the final layout. For now I have fun play....ahm, testing.

 

@Geck.o: this would be the right town to quote: " I am going to make you an offer, you can`t refuse."

 

Aside from MTS, have a look at cawster.wordpress.com, all EP and store worlds as caw-files......

Another update: placed some more wall-mounted speakers in the Cantina, had only one near the dancefloor and placing them ingame made the music turn off at midnight.

Added a criminal-hideout, situated in a repair-shop/garage, which is built into a viaduct. Looks cool, but the lot has no name.

MTS, Simmington by SimmyRN is about the size I have in mind, and no sculpting needed (Smiley with a grin).

Okay, some more screenies.

 

139 and 140 are from the original garage-lot, 141 is a view from Criminal Hideout over to Elixir Shop.

Will try to redo the interior of the hideout, the way the garage looks (girl not included).

 

The criminal-lot still needs a name, something like "Vito`s Garage". Suggestions?

 

How do I create a hotel? Lot-type?

@lungpaul: I am still asking myself, what it will be like, when it is finished. Hm, Fleabottom?

 

@maraas: definitely of use, there are links to some tutorials, it can be used with supercaw and it is empty (grin(big one)).

And download is finished(grin showing teeth).

 

Update (minor one): the new speakers fixed the music-off-at-midnight-thing, was right about this....

 

Next lot is an "exotic club", with SeeMyu_TheExoticPole. If one knows about a pole with interactions, please feel free to post a link.

Oh, yes, file-size is at 61mb, starting a new game takes around 40 seconds to load, no lagging, only when sims have pets for adoption, not really a problem.

A loud ha! coming from me. I knew, I had a reason for downloading the pole and the DoA-animations, but could not figure out exactly what. Animated_Poledance was the missing link.

 

Exit game...check.

Delete savegame...check.

Uninstall world...check.

Delete files in WorldCache...check.

Delete file in Export...check.

Delete  file in Downloads...check.

 

Start caw and add a new community-lot...please wait.

I have met Murphy and The Law. They have met my three best friends: Save Often, Save Early and Backup Copy.

 

Okay, added a lot and started construction of some club-to-be, wanted to test......and caw popped the message "World Export failed!".

Ugh!

 

Note to myself: caw has a WorldCaches-folder! Triplecheck all files before doing something stupid!

 

Nothing to worry, the world still exists and work continues......

Left side is the last lot I placed, a laundromat. Wall-texture outside is EA, inside, wall and floor are cyclonesue-textures.

Built in-game-edit-town, not caw. Don`t want that failed-to export-thing to happen again.

The car is a 1957 Ferrari GT California by Fresh Prince, the girl driving it, by me.

 

Question: does anyone know, how the Food-Truck works?

 

Placed in a base-type-world, it stays on its parking-lot, placed in a downtown-type-world(Bridgeport), some texts say, after placing 3 parking-lots, it should appear automatically.

I use MTS simsample/Bluefunk LateNight_FoodTruck + ParkingSpace (for buydebug only).

So, what?

Helps a lot.(Still no thanks-button???)Now I know how to express this.

Okay, supercaw has this flag-world-as-something-feature, built into the description-window. You need an added description to

a)save

before

b)exporting the whole thing, so you can playtest.

And

c) you add a 24-bit-png 256x256 as world-Icon.

 

Feabottom was flagged as a base-world, means Sunset Valley and the likes (is a default-setting).

 

The new version of it is flagged as downtown-world, Bridgeport. On the savegame-Icon you can see different houses (small, blue, lower right corner). After that, there are 12 Taxis moving around and the Food-truck is gone.

This could mean:

a) I need two more parking-spaces for it,

following the texts that say, it will appear automatically (have only one),

or

B) I need to place a truck too, which will be "invisible", while a dummy-truck would move to the next stop.

c) Flagging as downtown-world really worked, just need to figure out the food-truck.

 

Funny detail on this world: the viaduct-lots are west to east, the populated part of this world is south. Think of a viaduct being a wall and the world named Fleabottom, where would the Night`s Watch be then?

Ah, the MTS/.../424758 is the link, where I found the part with placing three spaces for the truck to appear.

Still testing all this, by now no truck.

Maybe remove it in caw, to make it appear ingame, same as with the Taxis, you don`t have to place them, the are there.

 

Still speechless about the second link, just added the creator`s site to favorites (mouth gaping).

 

Btw: your OKW-guide is one of the best guides I have ever read, I am no pilot (sim planes only), but this is really a pre-flight-check-list.

nraas..of course. Why didn`t i think of checking _there_ ! (good find..hope you can get it to work now). Thanks for the good feedback on the guide btw. I am no mesher, scripter nor am i tech savvy. But i know how to google ;) I try to help the best way I can.
